DatAlbino
24 Jun 16 3 #36
808 Snapdragon has had crazy overheating issues, throttling
Memory not expandable
Full HD screen is standard, alot of QHD/2K kicking around now
2GB RAM is nothing special, most have 3GB+ nowadays
Adreno 500 series is out, 510, 530, etc... this is good, but not amazing
Battery is pretty small (min. for most phones is 3000mA)

I think its decent specs for the money, but only due to the discount, its alright at 179, but at 279 you're getting ripped off. Get a OnePlus 3 for that kinda money, or perhaps a Xiaomi ^^

What's the battery life like on this one? Better than the nexus 5?
thegorilla to ei8hty5ive
25 Jun 16 #76
Much better than the 5. I upgraded from the 5 to the 1+1 which had great battery life. I switched to the 5X because the 1+1 was too big for me. To my surprise the 5X has similar battery performance to the 1+1. I'm running Android N beta which improves the battery performance again. I can easily get a full day use from a single charge. I estimate that in real world terms I can go about 36 hours between charges if I was to run the battery down. Add in quick charge and you don't really need to concern yourself with the battery. For an example of how I use my phone, I listen to music/podcasts for about 4 hours a day streaming over Bluetooth and sometimes streaming that over 4G. I rarely have wifi on, so I don't know if that saves battery.

Cloud services are great if you have fast broadband and decent mobile data coverage but there are plenty of people who don't.

I can almost understand people buying a 16gb iphone as a posing accessory but this is hardly an item of desire.

If anyone is seriously saying that this is the most sensible option at this price point, based on SoC, build quality, camera, storage, RAM etc they are deluded tbh.

I hated this phone, then after the update a few months ago I loved the phone again, then I hated it again. I've now bought a OnePlus 3. The Nexus 5x, well at least my Nexus 5x, has something wrong with it. It is not responsive, it lags and it feels like a very out date. The patch released a few months back fixed this, but it didn't last. Factory resets, cache clear outs, and farting with every setting under the sun has never resolved it. I bought the phone as I loved the Nexus 4. I handed over my Sony Z3 to the wife. It was the day my battery died and I borrowed her phone, my old Sony, did I truly realise that my Nexus was not right. I would avoid, regardless of this deal or any others.....PS. Selling a Nexus 5x, pm me if interested.

Well I have the Nexus 6p it's absolutely fantastic , quick, the fingerprint sensor is amazingly fast and a stunner to look at the screen. My Miss's has the 5x, same specs but smaller of course. She loves hers, fast, good battery, camera is nice and you get Google's latest firmware before anyone else. You might not think it's n upgrade but I would highly recommend it at this price as it's the best a droid phone at that level, if you're looking for something bigger, go for the 6p, you will not be disappointed. Android at its best.

No micro SD slot?...
A micro SD slot is essential for me,as I have over 100gb of music on my card.My phone has now replaced my Ipod Classic 160gb,so without the micro SD slot,I would be back to carrying around 2 devices instead of one.
I was going to get the OnePlus 3,but that doesn't have an micro SD slot either,so I will stick with my (now unlocked £5,fleabay) Huawei P9 Lite, that came in from Vodaphone at £160 (but now using my free calls/texts/data Talktalk sim that comes with my TT fibre/telephone/TV bundle).
When are the manufacturers going to get it into their thick skulls, that micro SD card compability is a must for some of us?....

If it's a must for you, then you can buy one of the 420 other devices that have microSD card slots.
This is Google, they're pushing cloud storage and don't want SD cards because they're slower than flash memory while also meaning that if the user removes them without proper unmounting, data can be lost.

anyone else have rather flaky packaging? my box could easily be opened as only one seal on one edge. contents seem ok but rather concerning that box not even shrink wrapped. i wonder of these aren't warranty returns?

28 Jun 16 1 #152
I've had the 32GB model for a few days now, got it for £191 through Flubit which I think was a bargain.

So far it's been fantastic. The screen is probably the best I've had on any smartphone so far, including AMOLED screens. Amazing viewing angles. General usage is pretty zippy and there's something about a Google phone that has that apple-ish "everything just works" feel to it.

The camera is definitely the highlight though. The last good camera phone I owned was a Nokia Lumia with OIS. The 5X beats it easily and utterly demolishes my Lenovo K3 Note. Focusses quick, does well in low light and some of the pictures it can produce are astonishing. The one downside I'd say is the lack of any video stabilisation but if you root the phone you can actually add this feature in.
dansax
28 Jun 16 #153
I fail to see how these are downsides to be honest. C-Type = faster charging, and wireless charging is pretty rubbish in general.

I bought one today, but found the WiFi kept dropping (other devices in the same don't, including my Z3 Compact).

Very nice phone other than that. Fingerprint sensor was good, camera was good too.

Nice price, but with flaky WiFi I couldn't risk it.

I took it back with a screenshot of the Argos webpage stating it supports SD cards - no quibble refund given.

29 Jun 16 #168
I have had the 32GB Nexus 5X for 6 months and I really like it, especially the camera and fingerprint reader. I currently have 14GB free, which means I'd be struggling all the time if I only had the 16GB version. Battery life isn't great, although the rapid charging is very good. I usually end up putting mine on charge for a bit in the early evening.

On the length of time these devices continue to get updates, I'd point out that my Nexus 7 (2013) got the Marshmallow update and is still getting monthly security updates ages after the guaranteed cut off date.

I moved from an iPhone 6 (64gb) to this. Pleasantly surprised how good this phone especially considering it's a 3rd of the price of the iPhone. Never used Android before this but haven't noticed a massive difference between this and ios, i actually prefer some aspects of android to ios.
Also I was a bit worried about the small 16GB capacity but i use google photos cloud storage anyway and Spotify for music so don't need a great deal of local storage.

11 Jul 16 #200
Shattered the screen on my N6 playing Pokemon go last night. About to pick this thing up in London, £179 seems like a steal. Yes 16gb, yes only 2gb ram but with flagships like the 6p at around £400 min I'll take my chances, am paying Google for photo cloud storage anyway.

Used to love my old n5 so interesting to check this out and frankly the whale N6, lovely but errr, it I think we can all agree, it's just a bit on the large side.

Anyone recommend where I can get a few quality USB-c cables and accessories on the cheap?

so just an update. Got the N5X from Argos (brand new right I presume, all looks new). Put sim card in fired it up.

Go through the setup process, and about the second screen in.....a message on the screen that I can't get past.

"This device was reset. To continue, sign in with a google account that was previously synced on this device."

Have I read this right - this phone is locked right - to someone else's account?

Obv. it's going straight back!? Anyone seen this before, have I made some sort of error in the setup - don't think so!?
