I might get one so the other half can wheel me home from the pub. After all, she's always pushing me around and talking behind my back.

Got one of these for my mum last time the dealwas on, and she said its quite uncomfortable on bumps. Its her first one so it might just be that she isnt used to a wheel chair.

I actually ordered a pair yesterday after seeing your deal. I don't think they'll be selling out quickly so I was going to wait to see how they were before voting hot or cold. If they're terrible and I'm not able to adjust them to a point they're usable then it'll be a waste of £4 and time and effort. If they turn out to be usable then heat it will be.

Isn't a "Self Propel Portable Propelled Wheelchair" also more commonly known as a "Wheelchair"?

Wheelchairs are terribly uncomfortable. First priority with any is a proper cushion, spoiled for choice on ebay.

Definitely needs a padded wheelchair cushion. For those with a genuine daily need, I would not suggest buying this, the design is terrible and outdated, and it appears to be heavy and clunky. It doesn't even have footstraps either, you'll have to remove that strap behind the ankle position just to fold away the footrest, imagine doing that with someone sitting down.

VAT has to be added to this price if you are not eligible for vat relief, so price is a bit misleading on the ebay advert

18 Jun 167#30
Really? I've never found anything "handy" about being in a wheelchair.
nihcaj
18 Jun 162#31
It is fine for occasional use, (with a cushion!) rather like how I use one - very short distances: I walk with crutches, longer distances: I usually use a demountable mobility scooter carried in my car boot, (but still heavy to reassemble) on other occasions (as I can't self-propel due to wrist and shoulder problems), for occasional use where a scooter isn't very convenient and when I need a seat that is mobile I use a transit type wheelchair (IF I have someone who can push me) simply as it is fold-able and relatively easy to put out of the way, and a lot lighter than the scooter.
Either way something like this is cheap enough for a temporary incapacity such as someone with say, a broken ankle, I think I paid as much for a second hand one, so you would probably get most of it back on ebay when you were finished!
Maybe good to leave at a relatives house if you are slightly ambulant and visited often but didn't want to lug a chair about each time?
If you are "living" in one all day, this isn't going to do the job at all.
nihcaj
18 Jun 161#32
Other than a broken leg which is usually going to get better, give me a sensible reason why you would be buying one if you are NOT disabled and therefore eligible?
I can assure you they make lousy lounge furniture.
Bunglistik
18 Jun 16#33
Absolutely right, and the point I was making; it's ok for occasional use for someone who does not rely upon mobility aids to get around with on a daily basis, an occupational therapist would probably be a better idea for those that do, and they would measure and fit the wheelchair according to your needs.
nihcaj
18 Jun 162#34
I dread the day when I won't be able to drive, as most public transport is already impossible for me now, and I can still walk short distances!
I seem to be missing out on all these marvellous attractions too. Can someone post a list? I can just about manage a near empty supermarket when the disabled bays are not full of the able-bodied in BMWs, 4 wheel drive cars and builders vans, and even then only with electric power, but I was hoping for something a bit more entertaining, mind you it has to be short as I can't sit for long spells.

I suggest those that say or think wheelchair life is a breeze, buy this and spend a week relying upon it to get around with on public transport, go to the cinema, shopping, school, work - everything you'd normally do and let us all know how much fun you really had...

How did I know there would be silly laddish jokes on this thread? People show their maturity by going giddy and cracking jokes about wheelchairs.

This is just for short term use really, it won't be comfortable for long spells. Also these wheelchairs are for people to self propel. If you will only be pushing your Mum and she won't self propel then get one with 4 small wheels. My son gets his from the NHS, we don't have large wheels as he would wheel himself away when we are out or he would risk putting his hands down and catching his fingers.
This is very cheap for something that you would rely on, personally I'd buy it for a little use here and there but decent chairs cost a lot more than this. As with most things you get what you pay for I guess.

I love the way the sell puncture proof tyres as a benefit when in fact punctures aside they're bloody awful you'll feel every tiny bump, I'd rather have inflated tyres with tyre slime and kevlar tyre lining instead
Puncture proof tyres indeed, I'd buy this except there's no way the missus is pushing for one & the other my hands and arms are too painful now let alone trying to propel myself :disappointed:
Good value for those desperate tho
