Cheap and cheerful 4G (Snapdragon 410 quadcore CPU), 1GB RAM, 8 GB ROM + microSD card slot, unlocking codes are from £1.28 on ebay.
Official MM OS update is available as well.
To buy without a mandatory top-up:
There is a 'Keep Existing SIM' option at the bottom of the 'Bundles' page, which allows you to purchase a PAYG phone without a top-up. Unfortunately Vodafone now hides this button a few seconds after the page has loaded. You have to be quick to click the button, if you miss it simply hit F5 or the 'Refresh' button on your browser to reload the 'Bundles' page and try again.

To buy the phone without the topup (£35), go to the 'Choose your Big Value Bundle' step, then right click anywhere and 'View page source', then ctrl+f for ''Keep your existing SIM", then click on the URL directly above that text.

Nice find.
If anyone is still struggling to get the "Keep Existing SIM" option, a couple of alternative approaches for the Google Chrome browser and Mozilla FireFox browser below. They are both different approaches to disable Javascript so the the option will display. Alternatively if you're on a mobile/tablet anyway give the website a go on there first as the option seems to display by default on their mobile site.
Google Chrome Browser Method *********************************************
7. On the next page you'll see a 'Keep your existing SIM' button. Click this and continue the purchase.
8. Once you've purchased your phone repeat steps 1 - 4 to turn Javascript back on.

My own actual experience says otherwise. It landed face down on the corner of a kerb and the screen shattered and cracked in several places, even with the screen protector, rendering it unsusable. Yes, if it lands flat, face down and the screen doesn't actually take any real inpact, then it probably won't break. Doubt the screen protector will have anything to do with it though.
Hi, Did you manage to enter your unlock code? I'm having the same problem. I've tried a three sim and tesco mobile sim but the phone never asks me to enter an unlock code.

Feeling a bit peeved. Accidentally dropped moto e on coffee table, of course, screen didn't stand a chance (although hoped more from corning glass). Go buy a replacement, come home to put in sim as bit fiddly to try to do while out... The sim card slot doesn't work! Grrr... rapidly falling out of love with this phone. It's also tiny after using a smart ultra.
Hey chaps. Is the screen likely to scratch easily without a protector on it? Bought a cheap protector but can't fit it without some bubbles, annoyingly.

This morning I went online and purchased the moto e which has been acknowledged and I should be able to pick it up instore . Yes I had to purchase the tenner top up but I still think its worth it.
So if I do get it as they have accepted my puchase it means that this thread should not be expired.

Just been into a voda store and the phone was labelled as 3rd generation. I didn't have time to question it.
thanks, didn't realise that. What would be really useful would be an advanced app that allowed you to set charging points, say 80% and 20%, to help overall battery health (a full charge and discharge is taxing on the battery and should really only be done every couple of months).
Of course, if the battery was removable/ replaceable, then it wouldn't be so important to look after that battery.

3 Jul 16#703
That's just an Android thing, to indicate it's on. The idea is you set a threshold, say ~15% ore ~10% for Battery Saver to kick in at, rather than run it all the time, as it disables a lot like background data.
david1274
3 Jul 16#702
Fitted an Integral 32GB card but had to go into settings to format it, as it didn't automatically give a pop up message
Are you meant to press card inwards in order to remove it or are you meant to just pull it out? I ended up needing a knife to remove it!
Also, when you select 'battery saver' mode, you get a red border around the whole screen, so disabled it. Weird, as you wouldn't get that on a phone.

2 Jul 16#695
Thanks for your response real_deal. The second sim slot has a blank that will need removing but there is no sim cards in the settings menu. I read that the second sim is a Dual Standby (not active) whatever that means.
The manual states: In some countries, you can use a second SIM. If there's only one SIM in the phone, it's ready to use. With two, you can use either or both. Touch Apps > Settings > SIM cards and select settings, like which SIM to use for calls, texts and more. Also, during setup, choose the SIM to use for data.

Does anyone know if you able to use two sim cards in this phone. It appears to have a second blank sim slot but there is no sim cards in the settings menu.
You need to meet these three criteria.
1 - The phone hasn’t been reported lost or stolen.
2 - I haven’t already requested an unlock code this year for this number.
3 - I’ve been using my Pay as you go SIM for more than 30 days.
But if you, like me bought it without a sim its difficult to meet Vodafone's 3rd criteria.
It seems you can buy a free sim from Vodafone here; https://freesim.vodafone.co.uk/
My plan was to order a free sim. Don't top it up then apply for a free unlock code in 30 days. But after many emails seeking clarification to Vodafone and many half answers back I have given up. Life is too short.
Their lying, the first one I bought online and collected at store was faulty. I went back and they refunded me there and then and was given a refund receipt. I checked my bank account a few days later the money was back in my account.
Sounds like the person in the store you visited just couldn't be bothered.

I spoke via live chat on Monday and they said it would be shipped next day. It didn't arrive.

At least you actually received something. My last order with them was never dispatched, but they took the money anyway. It took 18 days with many calls, chats and hours wasted until they finally refunded me. Vodafone are a complete disgrace.
They won't process your return/refund/replacement in store (they usually give the excuse that they cannot allocate their stock to an online order), but they might offer to speak to customer services on your behalf. It won't do much good though, as the CS team just give empty promises to whoever they speak to. Good luck getting your money back.

More memory (16GB vs 8GB), more RAM, compass, higher capacity battery, flash, higher quality screen, better camera etc - lots of hardware benefits which all add up. Is it ~6 x 'better though when you compare the price? Maybe not. This Moto E is a bargain however.

I have plugged it to computer via USB.
Have you tried this? I didn't understand the file contents and
I decided against a direct copy across and used Xender which is similar to ShareIt to copy stuff across.

I reset my phone and it now acts as it should. Files can be moved over to the SD card (internal storage mode) and files created with my favourite apps are stored directly to SD card. I have all the apps I usually use installed and still have over 1.5GB free space on the internal memory.
I recommend "Shareit" for sending files from one device to another. I've been using it for a couple of years and can't fault it. Files received on the Moto E in internal storage mode are stored directly to the SD card.

Yeah I know they have different read speeds. I forget which this is as I bought a 45mb and an 80mb one at same time and one got sold in an RPI I sold but forgot which one I kept. Though they are still not as fast as the internal memory. Even so I need to buy another one to make either my moto e or moto g a pleasure to use as at the moment both annoy me somewhat. That said I think the 1gb of ram is as much to blame as I am used to phones with 2 or 3gb on board.
Which eBay sellers had you failed with? Had you tried http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221439546897/ They were fine for me and a few others commented on here. Be good to check those to avoid for others.

Believe or not some class 10 cards are a lot faster than others even though they are meant to be roughly the same standard. For instance in my S7 I originally had a Kingston 32mb class 10 card(read speed 45mb/s) and the phone was lagging when it had to access apps on the SD card which shouldn't happen with a top of the range phone so I bought a Samsung 64 Evo plus class 10 card which had a read speed of up to 80mb/s and it's way faster now with no lag.

Double check your order email - not a chance you selected the G2 option? Whether you selected it or not, sounds like that's what they have sent you. If your order email shows you selected the E, I'd get in touch with the seller and explain the mistake you think they have made and ask to be sent the correct case.
Note - the G2 option is £2.99, the E option is £1.99, so does sound like maybe you picked the wrong option from the drop downs(?)

Picked mine up yesterday after some initial confusion which led to a conversation with Vodafone customer services talking about sending out another one - which certainly suggested they've got more in stock.
Worth doing the system updates straight away. And to use your existing microSD card as internal storage (something you'll want to do, there's not much space for apps otherwise) you'll need to format it. But apart from that - and an initial issue finding my wifi network (could see all my neighbours but not mine) it's all looking good now. For a relatively low-specced phone it seems to run surprisingly smoothly. Hopefully that's still the case when I've got a million apps running in the background.

Re: Unlocking - I don't think they're changing anything? Where did you hear about a change?
* If you use TalkTalk, no need to unlock as they piggy back on the Vodafone network
* If you're a long time Vodafone contract user they will unlock for free.....handy if you want to change networks one day/sell on etc
* Otherwise, use eBay....

Ordered and paid for both online for store pick up, Paddington ordered yesterday evening and Edgware Road ordered this morning. I've picked both up no issues.

To All unaware like me
I was happy to get the phone and get it unlocked.
Then I started getting msg's form 3(My SIM) that I have been charged £6+ plus £2+ each usage. I don't have data on my tariff so if I want to use internet I will turn on WiFi not data. When I went on to settings the Mobile Data was turned on and I guess there must have been updates applied in the background which 3 charged me for.
So please check your settings if you have Mobile Data turned on.
So all in all currently the phone as cost me £35+£1.29(unlocking) + £8 = £44-45
Still cheap compared I was prepared to spend something like £100 on my replacement.
OP I would appreciate it if this could be put on in your OP.
Thanks in Advnce

But the mote E doesn't have a front facing camera and the screen size is actually 4.3 not 4.5. That's why I was asking if it is the mote E 2nd generation or just the mote E as stated on the Vodafone website.

Mine also had a broken seal. Looking at a Vodaphone forum, there's lots of people say they've had various phones with broken seals - Vodaphone replied that the companies do quality checks.
My phone appears to be unused and the battery seems decent. To be honest I paid more for a crappy second-hand phone off eBay a few years ago, so I'm still getting over how this phone is so cheap.
I struggle to see why anyone would pay more than £100 or so for any phone, when you can get something really decent for less than a tank of fuel?!

Stick a SIM in from a non Vodafone provider (e.g. not Vodafone or TalkTalk). Power on, you'll be prompted to enter the unlock code you've been supplied.
If you haven't currently got one, just order a free SIM from EE or similar. The phone needs a Micro SIM, the EE ones (and most others now) come as one SIM card that allows you to pop out the size you need, e.g. normal, micro (for this phone) or nano.

As long as it looks new I'd say you're fine. It's just a con though selling phones that have been opened. They're quite clearly customer returns and should be sold as such, at a discount. My phone had a dead/stuck pixel on it, right in the middle of the screen I can forgive it though because it's a £35 phone and everything else about it is spot on. I also have a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 which has about 15 dead pixels. It's unbelievable haha but I just get along with it.

Do the usual "Choose phone" button, "Choose your bundle..." page appears. Hover over "reload current page" button at the end of the url field (in FF, i'm sure IE is the same), click reload (or F5), click on x to stop loading. Voila, every time  Basically, a long double-click.

Picked mine up from their Swansea store just now. Probably spent around 15 minutes in store. In my opinion, the amount of questions asked and the fact that he wanted me to insert my card again for a security check, as well as clarify my address details was a little bizarre. He even asked to look at my current phone (Smart Ultra 6) for a short moment and checked its IMEI number for some reason. Don't know why he needed the IMEI for my current phone?

So after 5 days of struggling to get this thing I finally have it. Vodafone have to be the worst sales experience in history.
2 days of struggling to buy from the website, on firefox, edge, ie and chrome, as welll as through my mobile, only to realise the site prevents you from buying with "keep existing sim" and having it delivered to store same day.
On the third day I went to the 3 stores I knew had stock and tried to convince them to sell me the phone for £35 they all were rude and refused. Eventually I tried again online and figured out that I could order it to a store that doesnt have stock and have it in 1-2 days. Double checked 3 other stores nearby that all had stock, indeed couldnt buy from them.
On the fourth day I get an email telling me they wont give me the phone unless i provide my passport information and bank statements. Despite it being payg and with no vodafone contract.
On the fifth day I go to the store with my passport and bank statement, they tell me they dont have the phone, and they have no record of my order. After 30 minutes in the store, the guy then admits "actually the phone did come in yesterday but you're not on our system", after another 20 minutes of explaining to him that its not meant to be contract and i dont have a vodafone number already, he loses his cool and starts getting aggressive, he then calls HQ moaning about me right there in front of me. I even hear the other guy telling him that the order is right there and to give me the phone, yet the rant continues.
Eventually the guy gives me the phone after I lose my entire hour lunchbreak with my passport, bank statement and order confirmation in hand.
So I finally got the phone, and after this experience and the somewhat similar experience I had buying the Z3 compact for £150 a couple of months ago (which resulted in me getting no phone), I know to never use vodafone ever. Shockingly bad company. Even when the store salesman calmed down he started telling me hes had this problem with every web order for months.

After having my phone stolen last year, I'd also highly recommend:
* Setup the Android 'Device Manger' app as someone mentions above, this is fine instead of the Motorola option, that will run 'on top' of the same tech.
* If you have OneDrive installed set a PIN on it. This way your camera roll backups will still be made (if the theif is stupid enough to take photos), but they won't be able to access your files. Meanwhile you'll get to see their artwork via another device as you still access your account.
* Consider encrypting the phone - although performance knock on may be more noticeable on this device
* Have your IMEI recorded/to hand
* Insurance? Maybe just buy a second one at this price!

Same here, plus an email too (I know you won't of had yours  so it is nice they text as well)....
On the morning of Wednesday 22nd June you'll receive a 1 hour delivery time slot and you'll be able to live track your order on its way to you. Please ensure that someone is available to sign for your delivery at:
If you'll be out, it's not a problem: you have a range of 'in-flight' options such as changing your delivery date, collecting from your nearest DPD Pickup Shop, asking us to deliver to your preferred neighbour or arranging to have your order delivered to a safe place at your address. Just click below to choose...
You can change the day, book to neighbour or pay to reserve a time window of a few hours. Doesn't seem possible to set a 'safe place' at the moment.

Mine was the same, non-vodafone branded box. Seal broken, probably demo model. Phone had the original display protector on it but fingerprints on the screen?? Plus I found a dead pixel on it after later inspection. I've ordered a replacement online and will be returning this one.
Very shabby really, won't be shopping with Vodafone again that's for sure.

They do look new though, so I guess it's OK. I think you may be right and they may have had the SIM added and then removed.

21 Jun 16#440
Did you not ask them in store? Maybe they are sim free phones that had been opened to put a sim card in the box then removed again.
I would deffo have questioned em in store as too late now you have em home really. But as long as they look new I can't see an issue.
1lluminati
21 Jun 16#439
I got two (one for my father and one for myself) and collected it from store. Just got back and both boxes have been opened (seal is broken)!
One had a broken seal, then a red Vodafone sticker on top (which was also broken) and the other had no red Vodafone seal, just a broken seal.
Plus they're not Vodafone branded boxes (to remove the SIM card since I chose keep my existing SIM), and there's no SIM in there, so I don't see why they should have been opened.
Anyone elses like this?

Turned out mine had a faulty sim slot, returned it fine this morning but they didn't have any in stock to replace the phone and none in stock in other stores in my area. I asked if they could order one in for me but they can only do that for contract phones. Went back online to order another and it wouldn't let me order it as my online account was cancelled or something, I assume it's because I returned the phone. Phoned up customer sales to buy one and they said to ask the store to order one in :-\
Ended up using a different email address to order it, just need to wait 2-4 days now. So if anyone wants to buy another for someone else or ends up with a faulty one just be aware you might have to use another email address if your own stops working.

Had a similar very bad experience. Picked a store with stock showing when ordering online. Got the ready to collect email shortly after. Only got round to going to collect a few days later but to my surprise they said they had none in stock.
Went round in circles on Vodafone phone system as without having an existing Vodafone number you can't get through to most options. I couldn't even get through to an option to complain.
Online chat said the ordered hadn't been dispatched yet but couldn't say why or when it would.
Order tracking showed it as still only in progress.
Tried complaining on Twitter. Resulted in someone calling me who was meant to call back in 72 hours after investigating but never did.
In the end I only managed to get mine almost 2 weeks after ordering by starting a new order for it on the site each day so I could check if it was in stock at the store I'd ordered from. As soon as it was I went to collect. No help from Vodafone whatsoever.
Probably my worst ever online shopping experience! Has put me off ever swapping to Vodafone network. Clearly have some issues with customer service and their IT systems.

DPD turns into Yodel, and claims to have attempted delivery but no one rang my bell or knocked on my door? I wrote to C/S who said no chance of redelivery today - but upgraded to by 12pm delivery tomo. Didn't even know that was an option!

20 Jun 16#341
This isn't true at all. There are multiple ways of choosing the "keep existing sim" option, as are detailed in this thread.
I did the refresh method, and the button shows up at the bottom for about a second, so you have to line up your mouse with the button before you hit F5. I picked mine up from store this morning no questions asked.
waynester21
20 Jun 16#340
I clicked on the "use existing SIM" option and collected from store. I put my 3 phone number in the box then I received a text advising me on my order. All they asked in store was whether I had a Vodafone SIM card or not. I said yes and that was it. No top up needed.
So after trying to buy it from the online shop for two days on three devices, and then trying at two stores with stock. I found out that the keep existing sim option will only work if the number you enter is a vodafone number. Otherwise you have to buy a £10 vodafone voucher or a sim card with £10 credit.
You wont be able to buy this and have it delivered to store with keep existing sim no matter how hard you try, and because there's no error message because the option isn't meant to show for non-mobile users, it's a big waste of time.

When you think about it, and compare this phone to the Raspberry Pi or Amazon Fire Stick, which have roughly similar specifications to this (Snapdragon 410 or equivalent and 1GB RAM), and are also priced at £35, this really is a steal.
I mean, the Fire TV Stick and Raspberry Pi are reasonably priced anyway for what they are, but with this you get the added bonus of a 4.5" screen, built-in battery, earpiece, two microphones and a speaker, two cameras (which admittedly are mediocre but you can't complain!), and several sensors such as a GPS module and accelerometer.
When you think of it that way, this phone represents outstanding value for money.

In its main home it'll also be setup as a security camera using something like this. Plus, it's a spare phone if/when needed.

Hi Vicky, you will be able to use other Vodafone based networks like Lebara or Talk Mobile in this without the need for an unlock. Talk Mobile Pay As You Go should be fine for a 9 year old. Calls are just 10p for an hour! However if you'd rather buy bundles then Lebara would be best suited.

All unlock codes on ebay are official unlock codes from motorola's database so it is a genuine way of unlocking. Plus if Voda refuse just go direct to Motorola as the warranty is with them.
Gee some people just analyse everything. Its a very cheap phone with a cheap unlock code. Not like its a 400 quid handset is it?
People buy chinese phones from China at 3 times the price and they may as well have no warranty at all. Lifes too short lol.
preecey
18 Jun 162#237
Sigh. If you're so concerned about this then why not consider using a Vodafone MVNO like Lebara or Talkmobile. Their SIMs will work in this phone without the need for an unlock. Happy days.
If you do unlock it and in the unlikely event that it breaks within warranty and you arrange a replacement in store or over the phone - the response you need to give if they ask if it's unlocked is NO. There's no way store staff will be able to tell if it's unlocked unless they insert a different network's SIM inside. And I doubt they'd do that.
wildlotos3
18 Jun 16#236
Maybe - if you buy unlock from them - they register it in system. All unregistered unlocks in their database - means made from other sources.
P.S.
AS well officially to keep warranty - unlock possible only after 1 month and only from them

A screen protector won't protect the screen for cracking if you drop it. As I know to my cost with my old Lumia which now needs a screen replacement. Admittedly that didn't have gorilla glass, but the screen protector only stopped scratches not cracks. Don't know if a gorilla glass screen plus screen protector will be any more immune to cracks than just a gorilla glass screen, but I suspect not.

Be careful
I 'bough' one of these last time the offer was mentioned here on hotukdeal.
I paid for it online, for click and collect at my local Vodafone store.
It all went terribly wrong.
I waited as instructed for a couple of hours before going to the shop to collect it. But they wouldn't give me one even though they had them in stock. Apparently the computer system wouldn't let them. It took more than an hour instore before I left without the phone.
Then after two phone calls to Vodafone it was decided that the order be cancelled and I would be refunded.
But ..then I checked and they had taken the money from my credit card but not refunded it. More phone calls.
And visited the store where they also spent about an hour on the phone.
Eventually, I contacted my credit card company and did a charge back. All a bit of a nightmare. Needless to say I wasn't happy. I had spent hours on the phone and visiting the store.

If you choose to order online, collect in store and use existing SIM they always ask you for the Vodafone phone number you're using to upgrade.

It's not as good as the 1st gen Moto G but for £35 I'm buying one to replace my 7 month Moto E as the battery doesn't last as long as it did, plus I'll be nearly £10 better off after paying for unlock codes and trading in to Cex!

Welcome to the joys of ordering from Vodafone. Just give it a few minutes & try again. Better still use a different web browser or device. You don't need a Vodafone number to order even if you've chosen to keep existing sim.

As long as their data plan allows tethering abroad then it's really easy to set up. Once you've put the password into the laptop it will connect whenever you turn the hotspot on. It's just a case of pulling the notification shade down and tapping on hotspot! Repeat to switch off.

I think they've changed the link now so that it doesn't progress to checkout.
However, they haven't done a very good job. Anyone who wants to buy this still will need to view source and search for 'keep my existing sim', but instead copy the link and paste it in the address bar, then change the last word from 'false' to 'true'. You will then notice the order progress hasn't moved on and the checkout button is disabled, however, you should still be able to hover over your basket at the top of the page and click on that checkout button.
They are silly, what an awful website.

Maybe your "M" experience with this phone is unlucky. Motorola is one of the few manufacturers that ship their phones with near vanilla software resulting in less lag and bloat. Poor experience is down to user level. As I said, I used to own a Sony Xperia SP (not as good as Moto E) and it can run Marshmallow fluidly - my son uses it now.
If your phone is already unlocked - consider custom ROMs to widen your enjoyment. Apart from a few missing things, the Moto E is a good phone. Look at the battery! Amazing for the price range

Rollicks you can only get delivered to card holder address. Any other retailers offering this price?
I bought the LG Leon from the Vodafone store yesterday for £15 more as it has NFC.
Other than that, this Motorola looks a better option on paper, better screen resolution and £15 cheaper. The LG comes with a headset and wall plug as well but probably not worth the extra? What do you reckon

I like the LG Leon myself, just to be clear there are two versions of the Leon, one is 4G enabled, the other is not.

Have tried Android 6 Marshmallow. Only a very few apps will run as internal memory on an SD card, majority do not. Tried fast Sd cards no difference
browntoa
17 Jun 16#47
Only downside for me is that at only 8gb storage since the marshmallow update it cannot run a great deal of apps before running out of space , I have to clear cache before installing updates all the time . Great phone though for a light user and a bargain price

17 Jun 16#53
You should have around 4-5gb for apps
slimy31 to browntoa
17 Jun 161#58
The marshmallow update includes the option of including SD card space as core memory. There is a 'reformat as internal' option that adds it all together.
The only proviso is that it has to be a very fast SD card.
And I should also point out that in my humble opinion, that is the ONLY good thing about Marshmallow on Motorola... as soon as I can find the lollipop core files to download I will be going back a stage.

you get loads more in the moto g, processor, ram and storage (if you can get the 16gb / 2gb ram model), screen, camera.

Moto E is a great budget phone, and you don't have to worry about suspicious Chinese update software embedded into the OS. It's solid at what it does too, pretty snappy for a budget phone.
This is the phone you get while patiently saving up for the premium handset you always wanted, or the phone you recommend to a first time smartphone user to help them get into new technology without the financial risk. Wow. Surprised this has gone even lower. It was rated the second best budget smartphone after the Smart Ultra 6 which has hardly been under £100. Hot
* PC Advisor's list of best budget smartphones has been updated to include newer models since I last saw it when the Moto E 2015 was at number 2. It's now their number 5, but definitely still the best value price wise
Opening post
Official MM OS update is available as well.
To buy without a mandatory top-up:
There is a 'Keep Existing SIM' option at the bottom of the 'Bundles' page, which allows you to purchase a PAYG phone without a top-up. Unfortunately Vodafone now hides this button a few seconds after the page has loaded. You have to be quick to click the button, if you miss it simply hit F5 or the 'Refresh' button on your browser to reload the 'Bundles' page and try again.

How do I move apps , pics etc to the memory card, I have a 32 gb one installed. Thx.
If, get it swapped?
Mine has same issue but is outside a year and I got it from someone via EBay who didnt give receipt from Tesco.
Does it work with headphones?
So if I do get it as they have accepted my puchase it means that this thread should not be expired.
Of course, if the battery was removable/ replaceable, then it wouldn't be so important to look after that battery.
Are you meant to press card inwards in order to remove it or are you meant to just pull it out? I ended up needing a knife to remove it!
Also, when you select 'battery saver' mode, you get a red border around the whole screen, so disabled it. Weird, as you wouldn't get that on a phone.
Has anyone else been able to find one at Asda?
Called Vodafone who said they couldn't exchange, only refund, which means I cant get the deal now.
Does anyone know if they can exchange in store? T&Cs dont say you can.
FREE unlocking in now being offered by Vodafone here;
https://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/forms/unlock-code-request/
Instead I used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unlock-Code-for-Motorola-Moto-E-Mobile-Phone-Moto-XT1022-XT1021-XT1524-/221439546897? and got a code back within 50 mins. Applied the 8 digit unlock code.
Phone now works on O2 contract sim. Happy days.
Thanks again to tyr for posting the find.
PS and thanks to the person who posted the eBay unlockers details
Sounds like the person in the store you visited just couldn't be bothered.
Can't even cancel without calling them up and I don't want to waste my life dealing with them..you take your chance dealing with them I guess.
I spoke via live chat on Monday and they said it would be shipped next day. It didn't arrive.
I phoned earlier today (Wednesday) and spoke to someone in web orders. They said they were investigating and would call me back in an hour. Four hours later and they have not called.
Poor customer service.
They won't process your return/refund/replacement in store (they usually give the excuse that they cannot allocate their stock to an online order), but they might offer to speak to customer services on your behalf. It won't do much good though, as the CS team just give empty promises to whoever they speak to. Good luck getting your money back.
Device arrived DOA and have spent hours of my precious time on chat and phone trying to arrange a return and replace. Was promised a pick up by DPD on Monday, but the courier never showed up and had no correspondence from either courier or vodafarce Now spent all this morning trying to get the muppets to sort it out.
Seems like they don't want to play ball unless you have either a PAYG or monthly contract with them.
Anyone know please if you can return to a high street store instead?
Seems the reset was what I had to do once I interrupted something.
I have plugged it to computer via USB.
Have you tried this? I didn't understand the file contents and
I decided against a direct copy across and used Xender which is similar to ShareIt to copy stuff across.
I recommend "Shareit" for sending files from one device to another. I've been using it for a couple of years and can't fault it. Files received on the Moto E in internal storage mode are stored directly to the SD card.
OH wait, I just read the thread a bit more and found some unlock links. Ordered from http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/mobunlockingmaster?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
The supervisor told be they have NO information and seem to have just made it up.
I have to call and spend money to get a view from their 'orders' department, when they might deliver.
Seems very solid.
If it gets aborted part way through, I don't know what happens next.
Because of impatience, it got into a state where a factory restore was what I did.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151779047886?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Seller has changed the page.
I message him. Thanks for your help
Yep he sent me Moto G2 not Moto E which is what I ordered
He has edited sale page as I have Moto E 2nd gen £2.99 on my order. That's what he was supposed to send.
Note - the G2 option is £2.99, the E option is £1.99, so does sound like maybe you picked the wrong option from the drop downs(?)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391123188979?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=660511315023&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
And I paid £2.99 it's now £1.99
I bought this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=391123188979&view=all&tid=661417660026
He has changed the listing to the top link.
Seller has got back to me and said sorry he sent the wrong item so he is sending a replacement.
Make sure you don't try that again choosing the internal memory, choosing migrate which tries to copy all of my 128gb ext microsdcard to the internal. It barfed with a factory restore.
Also, it really really slllllllooooowwww with 128gb integral uhs1 almost unusable.
Couldn't even try with my original account as on login you still get an error talking about needing to call them, take your passport to a store etc!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007KELD50/ - £4.99 Prime
EDIT: Never mind, it's gone through. Works fine without the top-up through the mobile site.
I checked other online stores to find that they are selling this set for £80-£90. At JL it's £79.99
I did put a phone number :disappointed: I just thought I would try again and get one ordered for my daughter but that's not happening now. Pain in the ass.
What type is required?
What's the max size?
* Otherwise, use eBay....
I paid £1.29 for my unlock code here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221439546897 Great service, just over 1hr. Include your IMEI (dial *#06# to get this) in your PayPal message to them
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111755878512
2: Thank you to 'morgie' for the clear instructions on how to order using chrome.
I collected my phone today.
3: Currently Vodafone charge £19.99 to unlock online. There is a policy change coming.
Wait until Mon 27/6 Vodafone will unlock for FREE.
The current unlock link is: https://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/forms/unlock-code-request/index.htm
But I'm not sure if they will use the same link. Probably best to search using the word 'Unlock' from the main page.
...good luck
Bagged one for myself as a stop gap since my phone died yesterday and also got one for mother.
Ordered and paid for both online for store pick up, Paddington ordered yesterday evening and Edgware Road ordered this morning. I've picked both up no issues.
Thanks and heat
The model in this offer is the XT1524
I've tried and it still won't let me
I now get this message
The code was delivered fast and yes it is 8 digit number. I was trying another thing thinking it is the code.
Thank you all of the above who helped me get this phone. specially OP I was looking for a cheap phone and got it, and one that works with my 3 SIMO....
Any ideas?
1 ABC 2 DEF etc. I don't know how to swap them so I can enter the letters as well.
And for me it's not over yet...
I have just got the Unlock code but to my vain I can't input it......
The KeyPad is the mixed Alpha/Numerical. So when I press a key all I get is the number associated with it. I have kept the key pressed and still get the number not the alphabet I want. I can only change it to character key pad not alphabet only or numbers only. Any hints will be appreciated.
I have just ordered the UNLOCK code so will wait and see if it work and allow my 3 SIM to work....
If you haven't currently got one, just order a free SIM from EE or similar. The phone needs a Micro SIM, the EE ones (and most others now) come as one SIM card that allows you to pop out the size you need, e.g. normal, micro (for this phone) or nano.
thanks
I have a moto g 3rd gen set up same as this and I prefer this. The Moto g is for sale.
only problem I had was installing Facebook. Had to install via apk and even that hung while doing it.
Worth a read: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/piggybacking
I popped an EE SIM in mine tonight, definitely blocked. Just used one of the recommended eBay sellers and now unlocked.
got LG G2, Nexus 4 , and other various tablet chargers................anything I should check before charging??
As in not really using it at all just mostly idle unless someone calls you etc?
I just ordered 2 set with 2 different email accounts, I was getting same problem since last 3 days today had a chat with customer service and as she advised order was gone straight, please use the phone browsers for keep existing sim and when you fill delivery address don't choose auto fill by post code enter manually, 2# when enter bank detail if your name is in capital letters on bank card must use same as it is on your card,
I did this and it was done in 1st attempt, so bought 2nd for a friend too, hope it would work for you try it.
The above requires just two clicks, reload and stop reload
Anyway, hot
Thanks
Many thanks op!
* A new browser (or clear your cache)
AND/OR
* A new email address for your Vodafone account
Do the usual "Choose phone" button, "Choose your bundle..." page appears. Hover over "reload current page" button at the end of the url field (in FF, i'm sure IE is the same), click reload (or F5), click on x to stop loading. Voila, every time  Basically, a long double-click.
Initiate reloading but stop it from completing 70/80/90% through.
Ta
Tried again and no matter what I do it says unable to complete and says to call up.
other half killed her Nexus so this will be ideal
Edit: phone was completely sealed by the way. Original Motorola seal with no Vodafone seal over it.
Since yesterday evening, is anyone managing to buy this phone for £35 using the "Keep existing SIM" option?
* Setup the Android 'Device Manger' app as someone mentions above, this is fine instead of the Motorola option, that will run 'on top' of the same tech.
* Install Prey - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prey&hl=en_GB
* Install AirDroid - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid&hl=en_GB
* If you have OneDrive installed set a PIN on it. This way your camera roll backups will still be made (if the theif is stupid enough to take photos), but they won't be able to access your files. Meanwhile you'll get to see their artwork via another device as you still access your account.
* Have a lock set on your phone and install Lock Watch - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_GB - Get a pic sent to you of anyone entering the wrong unlock code.
* Have a PIN set on your SIM
* Consider encrypting the phone - although performance knock on may be more noticeable on this device
* Have your IMEI recorded/to hand
* Insurance? Maybe just buy a second one at this price!

Must say its very impressive phone at this price point
Has anyone tried any cheap rugged cases & tempered screens for the phone?
Thanks tyr
Very shabby really, won't be shopping with Vodafone again that's for sure.
managed to order one as a backup this afternoon
They do look new though, so I guess it's OK. I think you may be right and they may have had the SIM added and then removed.
I would deffo have questioned em in store as too late now you have em home really. But as long as they look new I can't see an issue.
If I try to create an extra account I just get there is a problem with your order please call etc.
Tried again through online chat and they eventually sorted it but don't know how (had to click on links in chat)
Sorry, we haven't been able to reserve your items. Please wait a moment and try again, or call us on 08080 408 408 to complete your order. Our lines are open 8am-8pm, seven days a week.
Been having the above message since yesterday :disappointed: any ideas?
Assuming you may have a Gmail account, remember you can add full stops within your current address to make it unique to a third party. Google ignores these so you'll still get the mail. Similar trick adding a '+' and appending text before the @ symbol.
Same here, although I ordered late Sunday.
You can track your order here - https://www.vodafone.co.uk/shop/existing-customers/track-my-order/index.htm
I mean you pull a bit of paper and the world would end what a silly thing to say don't be scared give it to your wife let her get it out then watch the magic
Got ebay unlock code, took around 1hr (dont forget to send them your IMEI lol)
mobunlockingmaster
Great find
When I returned it this morning I showed them the receipt they gave and they refunded my card and gave me a refund receipt. I will keep an eye on it to make sure the refund does take place.
I can see them taking the phone back and the refund failing to materialise online.
Ended up using a different email address to order it, just need to wait 2-4 days now. So if anyone wants to buy another for someone else or ends up with a faulty one just be aware you might have to use another email address if your own stops working.
Second SIM slot (no electronic gubbins I believe) is above microSD slot covered with blanking plate.
Or the IMEI number.
The wife's Moto E, which arrived yesterday, has a slot which is filled with a bit if paper. It's on the opposite side to the slots for the SIM and micro SD card. There's something written on the paper but I can't make out. Is this a second SIM slot and would bad things happen if I pulled out the paper?
can hardly buy an mp3 player for £35.00
Oddly a £35 phone has ... decent performance, Marshallow (S5 plus never got it).
Beginning to question the premium Androids now.
Ordered one for my sis without top up. Yeay!
e.g. sometimes if I type really fast some letters doesn't vibrate (or if its near the screen edge)
Did other people get a conformation email about their order?
Thanks
So irritated I went out and bought a Lenovo Kia PMSL and tempted to not accept the Moto E. But maybe that's cutting off my nose to spite my face.
Your technique works a wonder. Initially I did a search and nothing was coming up truce... and I was wondering if I will succeed then I noticed I copied the ' before the search so it was all over the place. Anyway when the search results show up I click on the 2nd Keep your existing SIM the one with the RED notebook on the left of it. And now I have my phone without the Top UP.
Update
I have now placed the order and will be collecting it in 2-4days when I get an confirmation.
Thanks a million!!!
thanks whats the speed of card is good for these i dont know anything about sd these days
I've unlocked mine - it can get Three 4G but I'm stuck at HSDPA+ on o2.
Edit: Ok to clarify, it's possible to get it delivered to store in 2-4 days using keep existing sim. But the site doesn't allow you to deliver to store same day with keep existing sim.
I've moved over from a (broken) nokia lumia 520 (although fixed with the youtube trick for the broken soldering) and straight away this is a MUCH better phone. Goodbye windows phone and thanks OP!
I am using my nokia charger though, which does at least seem to work just fine :-)
I did the refresh method, and the button shows up at the bottom for about a second, so you have to line up your mouse with the button before you hit F5. I picked mine up from store this morning no questions asked.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/109134/p/1449,9582
You wont be able to buy this and have it delivered to store with keep existing sim no matter how hard you try, and because there's no error message because the option isn't meant to show for non-mobile users, it's a big waste of time.
Will be used as spare as my Samsung needs to go for warranty repair
Have you unlocked this phone and used it on 3.
Oh, can anyone suggest a good link for clear instructions on how to root this phone? 8GB storage ain't enough these days and I want to use Folder Mount on it. The Adoptable Storage mode isn't what it's cracked up to be because most of the apps I want can't be moved onto the card.
Lack of compass doesn't really matter. It works out which direction you are going as soon as you start moving.
Hmmmm, dilema
I heard my son rattling around in is bedroom and then came down and said I found this in my drawer...a Moto G 3rd gen 8gb that he forgot he kept after getting an Honor 5X lol. Just setting up now and will have to decide if to use this or the Moto E.
Anyone want my reservation? North London. After **** poor service and not going to ever use vodaphone again
Does this help?

phone showing 1-2 weeks wait now.
thank you op
The storage is a little low so you will need a uhs sd card to hold some apps. (My class 10 card wasn't fast enough).
Did anyone look at the Vodafone Smart Ultra 7 with the download source code? No prices mentioned yet.
Gee some people just analyse everything. Its a very cheap phone with a cheap unlock code. Not like its a 400 quid handset is it?
People buy chinese phones from China at 3 times the price and they may as well have no warranty at all. Lifes too short lol.
P.S.
AS well officially to keep warranty - unlock possible only after 1 month and only from them
Anyone with this phone confirm whether the main camera has a flash or not? Thanks
"If you unlock the phone from other sources, the warranty will become null and void"
UNLOCKING DOES NOT VOID WARRANTY!
4G LTE:
Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 processor with 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, Adreno 306 with 400 MHz GPU
The official model number for this is XT1524.
Plus those prices are for the older version, which should be avoided. This deal is for the new one with a Snapdragon 410.
-___-
There quick enough to take the money out my account though
(Sorry i have just checked junk mail folder they are all in there )
The keep existing sim box is on the bundles page right at the bottom of page.

Then install your own applications such as -

Anything else.
It means your phone will have no Google stuff on it...and you choose to install it.
Thanks OP
Thank you tyr.
Call them now and claim compensation for the aggro you've been through I know I would.
This is a good deal however, as long you actually manage to receive the phone and unlock it straight away to use on a far superior network like Three or EE.
The website is available to me. but the phone itself is not :disappointed:
Also GSM Arena mentions a 3G and LTE model of this phone, which model is this please.
The new Motorola Moto E boasts a 4.5 inch quad HD display, a fast quad-core processor and a full-day's battery life - so you can get on with yours.
Try reading , muppet

Now all I have to do is wait for my unlock code to come through and order a case. Excellent bargain.
Any unlock links please.....
Thanks
Hello John,
We're checking the details of your order (WEB-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx), and will be in touch shortly with an update.
I tried 6 times
It is ok on moto e
when finishing an order I'm getting an error:
Does it mean this promo ends already? Or do I need to put the phone number from Vodaphone network?
I've tried two different debit cards, same issue.
Timing couldn't be more perfect as I managed to smash the screen on my cheap (£40) windows phone yesterday and last night began to look around for a replacement. This will fit the bill perfectly.
I would be using it now if it wasn't for the iPhone's camera
Will this phone work with Lebara SIM? Thanks
Looking to give to a relative to take to europe so that they can tether to their windows 10 laptop but hoping its not a long process every time they want to tether. Thanks
excellent tip also. thanks for the help richie1. #98
Google Chrome Browser Method
*********************************************
1. Using the Google Chrome browser, install the extension here - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-html/lfhjgihpknekohffabeddfkmoiklonhm/related?hl=en This will allow you to disable Javascript when needed in the points below.
2. Go to http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/pay-as-you-go/motorola-moto-e-4g-payg/sku88822
3. Using the add on disable Javascript
4. Refresh the page. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the button 'Keep your existing SIM'

If your phone is already unlocked - consider custom ROMs to widen your enjoyment. Apart from a few missing things, the Moto E is a good phone. Look at the battery! Amazing for the price range
Phone ordered.
Ordered with no problems otherwise.
Does anyone know who Vodaphone use for delivery? Is it Royal Mail/DPD or is it one of the less efficient couriers. Thanks.
It's a great phone - full stop. Research thoroughly before commenting.

Other than that, this Motorola looks a better option on paper, better screen resolution and £15 cheaper. The LG comes with a headset and wall plug as well but probably not worth the extra? What do you reckon
The LG has a compass as well as a removeable battery, radio,NFC and a flash for the camera which is lacking on the moto. Excellent phone for £50.
Every time I see a phone deal of yours I always say it with a Yoda impression.
If it develops a fault I would rather deal with Asda than Vodafone
Heat added
The only proviso is that it has to be a very fast SD card.
And I should also point out that in my humble opinion, that is the ONLY good thing about Marshmallow on Motorola... as soon as I can find the lollipop core files to download I will be going back a stage.
No charger in box - only lead
Ebay has unlock codes - You need to buy the phone & send the IMEI number to the Ebay seller - Its easy to unlock once you get the code - Put a non Vodafone sim in ie EE and then it asks for long code number - enter it carefully then should be unlocked
Thanks for posting the deal.
This is the 2nd Gen version with 4G, Snapdragon 410 quadcore processor, 8GB storage and 1GB RAM. Not too different to 3rd Gen Moto G (1GB RAM model)
Great battery, good front facing speaker, takes sd card, brilliant device for the money, (though I would not use as a main phone, a bit jumpy sometimes).
Essentially the phone can use GPS to work out where you are, just doesn't know which way you're facing.

Great way to hide things Vodafone!
Here is a comparison against the moto g 3rd gen which is just under £100 i think in some places
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6986&idPhone2=7247
you get loads more in the moto g, processor, ram and storage (if you can get the 16gb / 2gb ram model), screen, camera.
but for £35 this will give you a decent phone for day to day use
This is the phone you get while patiently saving up for the premium handset you always wanted, or the phone you recommend to a first time smartphone user to help them get into new technology without the financial risk. My mum hates technology, but now she's listening to mp3s and texting like a boss thanks to this thing.
Most people could get 2 days moderate use - Good battery and low resolution help things - Very responsive just lacks camer flash and compass for sat nav but still very useable
Apparently this has/will get Marshmallow according to Motorola's upgrade page. Can anyone confirm? I did fancy the Moto G 3rd Gen for £90 but can't grumble at this.
also, they are crafty hiding the keep existing sim button.
Not the easiest unless you've done this for website building.
* PC Advisor's list of best budget smartphones has been updated to include newer models since I last saw it when the Moto E 2015 was at number 2. It's now their number 5, but definitely still the best value price wise
