Rather do this then waste £10 on either carded keys or MSDN or something else thats in violation of MS terms that gets the key blocked after a few months anyways. You can see the other deal from this company, only reason it's allowed is because HUKD are getting £££ from it.

The company hasn't even been trading for over a year and was dormant previously with £4 in it.

If I buy a Windows 7 Pro OEM can I change my current product key (an Ultimate volume key) to the new one (effectively a downgrade) and then go through the Windows 10 Pro upgrade?

If this works, is the upgraded Windows 10 Pro also OEM (i.e. having risk of failing if you change hardware, etc)?

Just get the Windows 10 Pro upgrade and save the hassle.

And yes, it will be OEM, but I called Microsoft when I changed Motherboard and they just gave me a new key

Yeah... No you can't. If the product key isn't legit in the first place, the free upgrade won't do anything but upgrade the OS itself. It's always worth reviewing licensing rights here as OEM software (and keys) lives and dies with the machine. You have no transfer rights

If you are running Vista, you first have to find out if you're running the 32 bit or 64 bit version. The most solid version of Windows since V7 is 64 bit, so I wouldn't try to upgrade using 32 bit versions, and there's no way to cross upgrade from 32 to 64 bit.

Therefore if you are running 32 bit Vista, my advice would be to wipe and reinstall from scratch using 64 bit Windows 10.

If you are running 64 bit Vista and want to try and keep everything, the best thing to do would be to first upgrade from Vista to windows 7 64 bit. Fully update after your upgrade. Then upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It won't directly upgrade without going via Windows 7.

If you don't mind starting from scratch then you can start by backing up your data, then wipe your hard disk and install windows 10, but you may need to download some things in advance before you start such as Windows 10 driver files for your motherboard/PC.

Yes you can, using something like Daz loader you can upgrade and get a full digital entitlement activated license, exactly the same as if you upgrade with a legit license key.
arnold.rimmer
20 Jun 16 #18
Its tied to the mother board i think and it is a legit license , you can reinstall a fresh copy of 10 and it sees your machine has a legit license on the server or something, it does work unless they stopped it very recent as i did it a few months ago.

"Bogus" no, but if W7 has been successfully activated by even questionable means, it will qualify for w10 upgrade and result in MS activating that W10 installation as legitimate. This dubious state of affairs should cease when MS stop the free W10 entitlement at end July 2016.

Google?

Or you can find original non-modified/hacked ISOs on torrent sites quite easily. Torrents do have legitimate uses.
xchaotic
20 Jun 16 2 #33
from a technical point of view this will work, from a licensing point of view - this is no more legit than downloading a torrent of w7 and upgrading. You are paying some random people who got W7/w8/W10 serial numbers off post-lease corporate computers. It's not stealing but close and definitely not in line with Microsoft EULA, so not sure what are you paying for, but it is definitely not a legitimate copy of Windows.

Aghast at why anyone would be buying this to downgrade to Windows 10. Terrible, terrible attempt at "Windows". Buy this and keep it!! Unless you like pretending your Core i7, 12gb RAM, GeForce 1080, 27" monitored beast is a iddle Linx tablet, there is literally no plus point in downgrading to Windows 10 - other than DirectX 12. Oh aside from.......no...that's it.

Force updates (whether they might actually make things worse or not)
"All apps" in the Start menu ...on a proper computer. How embarrassing.
Tablet mode (why??)
Barred from the right click to preview photo and video files (again - why)
Mail (hideous built-in mail client whereby you can't even customise it to a basic level due to Microsoft preferring you to pay money for that level of privilege)
There's a few starters - oh aside from the fact that as I previously detailed in another post, it refused to let me save something to my C: drive, due to some sort of "admin rights" issue, and after going in and opening up all admin rights it then generated a NEW excuse as to why it refused to let me save to my C: drive!! This was a complete non-issue in Windows 7. I built the damn PC and I had a full retail version - I think I'm allowed to alter stuff thanks. I had various attempts at trying to tell me "maybe you partitioned the hard disk wrong" or something. I was attempting the simple act of saving an innocuous file to my C: drive. I wanted on there so I could access it quickly, I wasn't trying to bloody decompile the registry.
I could provide many more things but to be honest I prefer to blot out the horrible experience as I've now upgraded to the final version of Windows that Microsoft put out, and couldn't be happier.
Should add this is absolutely nothing to do with 'getting used to' or 'hating change'. At least Windows 3.11 to 95, 95 to 98, 98 to Xp, Xp to 7 (those were all the jumps I personally made I know there were more versions) were all STILL WINDOWS!! Windows 10 is not Windows. It is this horrible mess of a "oooh, yeah you want Windows to be just like your tablet, don't you! Yeah you want to unify everything between your PC and your Xbox One, yeh?"

I upgraded win10 to a new SSD by 1st downloading the win10 upgrade onto a usb stick so that the laptop motherboard was 'recognised' .......or at least that's what I assume?
Then switched out the HD for the SSD and installed WIN10 from the usb stick and it's activated with no problems.
Depending on what I'm doing I switch from HD to SSD with no problems.

20 Jun 16 #47
You only need "flag" the motherboard as upgraded once. After this is done the hardware is licenced for Win 10 using the call back to Microsoft option ie don't enter a key during install.

Also if you have bios embedded key instead of a COA sticker (thing with the Windows product key) then generally the upgrade will pick that up if use the newer ISO's / media creation tool - worked since the November update.
Teddox
20 Jun 16 1 #48
On the deal itself - good price but strictly speaking the key maybe genuine but you will be in violation of the licence terms. For home use I don't think Microsoft are going to be bothered, but don't do this for a business. Also the upgrade source licence affects what you can do after the upgrade..

OEM 7 / 8.x to Win 10 = No transfer allowed to new hardware
Retail 7 / 8.x to Win 10 = Can be transferred

Basically it will retain its transfer rights.

It's not so bad  Just need to remember to reinstall a fresh copy windows 10 later on. I've upgraded 3 machines off windows 8 pro media upgrade keys which was cool as I didn't have an OS to upgrade off so £25 for 100% legal windows 8 pro media non oem keys was a good deal for me.

so same as with previous windows o/s then, OEM lives and dues with the machine (officially at least)
martynpd
20 Jun 16 2 #51
Actually you can transfer an oem from one machine to another, yes not officially. what happens is Windows activation fails and then you call the Microsoft product activation, enter the activation code and she reads authorisation code, fully automated and sometimes you'll be asked how many computers have you installed this on and you say 1. I've never had to buy a new key from oem and I upgrade my computer every refresh.

Pain in the **** calling the activation line but it's fully automated and quite quick.

Cannot understand HUKD condoning this company (OpiumPulses) by allowing product listings of theirs to be posted on here. They're MSDN licences failing that duplicates that are sold to many, many customers from what's been gathered. Avoid-Avoid-Avoid.

Be aware that many sellers especially on ebay are selling same key to different people. They will work for sometime, not sure after. If you call Microsoft once you got the key they will tell how many times is been activated. If none, always try after a couple of weeks and see if that is changed. Always pay with paypal, it will be much easier to get the money back. I been a victim my self and amazingly my key does still work despite the fact that Microsoft told me that it was already blocked sometime ago. I must say that the very first time I called Microsoft it appeared as a genuine key and non in use yet, few day later about 5 or 6 activations including mine and few weeks later it was blocked

The Win 8.1 Pro version looks to be a particularly good deal, as the free upgrade to Win 10 is still operating (I think). I have used similar routes to Win 10 on most of our PCs and never had any problems. Win 10 is a pretty sorted out OS, the only way of doing things cheaper is to use a free LINUX program, which requires a little more knowledge.
Heat added, this is a good way of getting Win 10 very cheaply.

These days, going back to Windows 7, seems somewhat archaic, but I've never had problems with 8, 8.1 or 10, each OS worked fine, all I had to do was configure the system for my applications and I reckon, even if the OS wasn't faster (which it was for 8, 8.1 and 10) my working pattern was definitely faster.

LOL! Well it's pretty easy to see what happened. At some point in the last few years, someone at Microsoft looked around and noticed that lots of people use their smartphones ALL THE ****** TIME - including, I hasten to add, while crossing the road IN FRONT OF MOVING CARS. And IN THE CINEMA WHILE SOME PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO WATCH A FILM. But I digress.
So this Microsoft bobbin thought: "Oh I know, let me design an operating system that TURNS EVERY SINGLE OBJECT A HUMAN BEING OWNS INTO A PRETEND PSEUDO-TABLET SMARTPHONE THINGY." So they designed Windows phones, Windows 8 and Windows 10. Because, ya know, they're so advanced they jumped Windows 9 entirely and blasted into the modern age, kind of like that ship in Star Wars.
If Microsoft had their way, they would turn EVERYTHING into tablet smartphone thingys. Including Weetabix, bananas and apples. Go swipe that, Microsoft.

Au contraire, it's easy - & legit, Microsoft have no problem if you change from 32 bit to 64 bit - just upgrade via installation media as opposed to other methods. Choose the 64 bit version of W10 & Bob's your uncle. I've done this on several machines.

Elevation
21 Jun 16 #90
I'm afraid Classic Shell does absolutely zero to compensate for all the other shortcomings of Tablet 10. Didn't matter WHAT I did to Tablet 10, it is barely usable compared to Windows 7. Anything you want to do beyond opening a file and booking a holiday online it tries to hide from you. All the face lifts in the world can't help with that. Some of us just don't WANT a tablet experience on a proper PC. That's why we build PC's, not clip together a few parts behind a 7-10" slab. I'm not suggesting for a moment this is some kind of superiority, what I'm suggesting is that's the REASON you build a PC. Because you don't want to use a tablet.
fishmaster
21 Jun 16 #91
What I'd add to this is that almost no one uses the Windows 10 store apps. Windows 10 tablets don't sell and Microsoft is sacking off their Windows phone division. I sell computers where I work and the feedback from the customers is entirely negative regarding Windows 10. In fact some still ask can I downgrade, or if I've sold a Windows 7 machine and it upgrades they want to downgrade it again.

If I had Windows 7 I'd stick with it for now. I'm waiting to see if Windows build 1607 the next major update to Windows 10 on 16th July codenamed Redstone 1 will improve Windows 10. The current build 10586.420 can still have problems with the start menu not working. How they haven't solved that problem is incredible.

Windows 8 proved that you can't merge a tablet and desktop OS successfully and Windows 10 is a botched apology for that ethos. If you're a gamer you'll want Windows 10 at some point if you play upcoming games.

Anyway there's mileage to get out of even the PS4 yet. Uncharted 4 and God of War both look fantastic on PS4. Rambling now. Bye

The point is that the Windows Store is there, and it's an integral part of Microsoft's vision, as a desktop OS for this purpose Windows 10 in entirely a failure. I will use Windows 10 for DX12 gaming, I am hoping that the Vulkan API rapidly progresses and that will take over as the main gaming API, then there's absolutely no reliance on Microsoft's operating systems for gaming in the future.

If I'm building a PC within the coming days is this a legit way to get Windows or will it pop up that it's not the real thing?

I clicked the get deal link on my phone ( galaxy s4 ) ( i am now posting on my pc ) and immediately a pop up screen said i had four viruses on my phone and would allow me to get rid of the pop up screen had to reset my phone which seems to have sorted it !!!!

That's the main problem with this "deal", it could activate and you will be OK, it could fail to activate on install or it could say the license key has been blacklisted days or weeks down the line. You're taking a risk when you buy this product.

The debate about whether this is in fact legal licenses or pirated license keys is another matter.

Microsoft announced that it would upgrade pirate copies of Win 7 to 10 free of charge for the first year.
roycom
21 Jun 16 #112
That story was rebuked by Microsoft themselves and they said that was NOT the case, so they are not giving pirates any sort of amnesty. What is happening is the upgrade cannot tell the difference between the working activation methods around (like Daz) and a real activation, those will get fully activated for nothing.

On a side note, is anyone else having all their comments moderated before being posted????

http://www.askvg.com/faq-upgrading-to-windows-10-from-non-genuine-windows/

Think this link above should help answer peoples questions about non-genuine windows, when you upgrade from a non-genuine key of win 7 or 8.1, when it goes to the paid version of windows 10 on 25th july then they will be given 30 days to upgrade before they cant use there operating system. (unless you use some more dodgy software to fix it or refresh the trail period lol)

I bought a 8.1 key from the site to give it ago and see if its genuine or not, the image file sent looks rather legit but wont find out till a few weeks in haha.

P.s. just editing it to say yes seems like my comment went through moderation before being posted never posted before so unsure if its normal or what haha i assume it is

Is it actually possible for a non genuine copy of windows 7 to become legit by manually installing windows 10 via Microsoft's free update offer as some claim?

Seems to be out of stock now.
fishmaster
21 Jun 16 #121
It was possible well in to this year (2016) anyway this is a moot point as I have no interest in informing anyone on the current status of pirating Windows 10. If you obtain a licence this way and Microsoft rescind it, then that's your problem.

Install Torrent client (Tixati is a good one)

Download Torrent, preferably Generation2 or murphy78 releases as they aren't pirated.

Then download and install Rufus and use it to 'burn' the ISO to DVD or USB.

Yes, that's the point, if your Windows 7/8 actually says it's not genuine before you upgrade, upgrading will simply mean it's still not genuine when you get to Windows 10.

If Windows thinks it's fully activated and legit beforehand using a loader or whatever, it will upgrade to a fully licensed Windows 10.

This free for pirates thing came about in March last year when a Microsoft bigwig was talking about Windows piracy in China and loads of news outlets got the wrong end of the stick and made out it would be free for pirates as well, MS quickly clarified the next day that it won't be free for pirates.

So, they don't intend for it to be free for pirates, but it still is if the right methods are used.

What about your hardware, its might be outdated what could lead to lot of isues once you upgraded to windows10, also I would suggest clean install of win10 once you have updateded your machine from older version of windows, to make it more stable and reduce the numbers of problems caused by upgrading process
TazzyUK
21 Jun 16 #129
and how would you do that? (key wise) if I upgraded my Win 7 to Win 10 via free upgrade then wanted clean windows 10

nothing wrong with windows 10 - its a great OS - i would like to see a list of specific faults from the whingers (no doubt i'll get one)
the shambles (on some genuine W7 installs) is the upgrade procedure from 7 to 10 - its a total joke - hanging on 99% download / hanging on "checking for updates" etc

I was an technical preview tester months before the Windows Insider release. It went through many builds with options being added, removed, and changed. Microsoft actively got feedback from testers and adapted it during development. Personally I am quite happy with the final product that has emerged, it is quicker, slicker, more user friendly and makes my job a hell of a lot easier.

Most of my supported SME's have either totally migrated or have a cross section of Windows 7/8.1 and 10. More often than not the feedback I receive is very positive and users would not move back once they are trained correctly about the features it offers to increase their productivity. One thing I can tell you without a doubt is that your average business user doesn't give too hoots to what OS the computer runs, so long as it lets them do their job without hassle.

The people who pick fault with the Windows app store on the desktop version of Windows... well, anyone can work out the issue there. Desktop Windows has more apps than you can shake a stick at, maybe try the alternative app store that you used on Windows 7, you know the one, is called Google, where you can search for even more new programs that edit your dog pictures to make it look like their smiling at you. Oh and that still works fine on Windows 10.

So I guess its apples and pears, like anything in life, choice is key, use what you want. But I remember the same discussions happened when Windows 98 and Windows 7 came out, people were naysayers and evangelised that Windows 95 or XP was better. Some people hate change, human nature.

But anyways, back to this deal... dubious at very best. But with Opium Pulses not being an authorised Microsoft OEM seller, more likely than not breach of copyright, will it work? Yes. If a business used one would it stand up in a court of law in a copyright infringment case? I doubt it.

Just chill and take it easy, use a flavor of Linux if you dare!

Flea

thanks seems very complicated with all this torrent stuff

For anyone interested just noticed that Opium Pulses have 1100+ Windows 7 licenses back in stock - bit more expensive though, currently $15.71 which equates to £12.45 (though part of this will be due to the fall in the pound)

I bought a couple last time round for laptops I was refurbishing (worked fine inc upgrade to W10 though i had to activate them by the phone method)
