Price is ok...but I think the phone is horrendous. I used to have one of these for work (now have the 535 which is slightly better, but still would not recommend).

Get one while you can: Microsoft aren't making any more Lumia phones and the next phones running Windows probably won't be in the UK for about a year - if at all.

Are these unlocked? And do I have to buy their sim?

I paid a tenner about a year ago - probably this deal from cpw. Phone was excellent value, especially for games, music etc.
Mine was brand new, not refurbished.

Yes I know but it is now £39.99 with Vodafone upgrade and £44.99 with O2 upgrade. I am not qualified for any of the upgrade so could not take the offer anyway.

I bought the 635 for £25 and I'm VERY impressed.I use it as temporary/backup phone and was expecting a poor experience however I'm really pleased.I'd say I much prefer it to any cheap or budget android phone.definitely.nothing wrong with windows phone and the quality of the phone and screen for price is excellent.

I got this phone new on a deal last year for £14.99, not bad phone, the OS is slick. Microsoft has effectively ditched their phone division though, so it spells the end for Windows Phone.

Like Blackberry afore who were too late to the market with a brilliant OS, in a years time prepare to see Windows Phones being the next Blackberry Playbook.

My wife has switched back to android from WP, and I am looking forward to abandoning ship myself.

Much like betamax, win phone is a fantastic OS, just too little too late. If it had launched with android emulation it might have stood a chance.

It sounds more like Microsoft will rebrand its phones as "Surface" to piggy back on the growing success of their tablets and premium laptops. I don' t think that Windows Phones is dead just yet. Certainly for as long as your phone is likely to last you can be sure that the OS will continue to work. If ultimately we have to move back to the rather sorry bodge of compromises that is Android so be it, it will be a shame, it remains by a long way technically superior to Android and the increasingly dated Apple OS.

I can't agree more. TBH my main phone is iPhone but I prefer Windows rather than Android as my backup phone simply because it just runs so much smoother, especially after, say, 1 year's time.

Silly question, but for those of you using a 'backup phone' actively, what exactly do you use it for? I have a bunch of old phones that I kept 'just in case' but have never ever had to use any of them...

Where in my case I split the apps and storage among the main and secondary phones. For example, I put satnav apps which require a lot or storage space, as well as a lot of battery when running on the secondary phone. So I only spend a fraction of the extra money that I would have spent for a bigger storage iPhone to have a secondary phone. Also when I go out the main phone's battery is saved for other use.

I've got one of these. It's pretty modest but I like it. Windows phone is sooo much smoother and slicker than Android but the apps thing kills it and it's not getting any better.

The camera on this is utterly dismal, something like 2 mp and fixed focus so shop elsewhere if you like taking pics.

Strangely, I mainly use my phone for phone calls. Windows is the best OS for phones, and I use all three OS, but it is just so much smoother. Apple no longer worth the premium and Android annoys me with its lack of consistent UI across apps.

Right. The phone is locked unless you top up on their sim card to get an unlock code from them. Grr.

25?!? You got to be joking. Ive bought 4 of these 1 on virgin for a fiver which was unbelieveable 1 on tmobile for,a tenner which is good. Although the apps arnt upto the game i found these superior to say huawei 534 which i found screen worse and about as good as an alcatel. Ive fed my 2 nieces 2 of these and im feeding them 2 more this august as replacements. This is ideal as a kiddie phone it can skype. The obly thing stopping me using it is its lack of push sip call recieving otherwise id use it. This is cold by price and timing.
