If you have never used an Impact Driver go out and buy one. For years I had a normal drill/driver and you end up just reaming the heads out. An impact driver is an amazing tool to have easily undoing stubborn screws or driving wood screws all the way in.

the kit at toolstation has a worse box but the drill driver has a worklight. i would prefer 10 more bucks for a worklight.

Why is it white and not green like other Makita 18v range?.

Not sure about the lighter range! I understood they were special edition kit, my white&black drill driver is still going strong after 7 years, same 3ah hour batteries aswell, cracking but of kit! I really fancy an impact driver now, I thought about the dtd152 as that appears to be the more recent replacement for the 146! Might be wrong!

Well, that's the info I found, especially in the US. I am tempted by the 148 brushless, but it is so expensive for a DIYer.

can anyone tell me which I should get to go with my lxt kit for removing bolts etc. can I get an impact driver or do I have to get an impact wrench. general diy car stuff. if I have to get a wrench, which one, there are loads!

Not the lighter range, simply the 'Anniversary' Edition. I've had mine for 6 years now and it hasn't missed a beat. The only difference being is I have the 23 minute charger which is a God send!!

The keyless chucks are a bit different and I can't see the case to see how bad it is. BUT the charger is 22 mins, rather than an hour from this one from Screwfix. Any thoughts??

If you have two batteries there's no real need for a fast charger, is there? Having said that, it seems the Toolstation drill does offer more torque than the Screwfix one - 62Nm against 42Nm. But, going by the picture, you can check battery power with the Screwfix Impact Driver, but not with the Toolstation one.

Just bought the Screwfix deal. The label on the case says the drill is BRUSHLESS! Drill is a DHP453.But i'm not sure they are right. Can anyone confirm?

The tool station deal comes with a Makpac case which I thought was quality. Is the standard heavy duty case any better?

So the 453 is an entry level model The important thing to note is that this drill has a maximum torque of 42Nm, which means light work; so smaller screws and smaller fixings. Its limited torque capacity is down to its canister motor. This means that the motor is a sealed unit, with no external brushes to change. Its the design of this motor that restricts this drill from having a larger capacity of drilling and places it firmly in the light duty category.

Its NOT brushless.

That said, this kit will easily cope with anything an experienced DIYer will use it for IMHO.

Yep you right. the site I linked to just says that there are no brushes that you "can change"... so there still in there, you just cant see them, lol. My bad.

Yes, the Toolstation one is actually a better deal, even though it's £10 more, I got the model no's mixed up and wrongly thought this was better....

The reason the Toolstation hasn't got the heat this one has is because the OP on that one failed to mention they were LXT drills...?

So LXT is a good thing? Plus its a rapid charge, AND the Impact Driver has a torch on...very useful! is that my best bet? Think Ill get one tomorrow

If you get an LXT tool the batteries can be used in a wide range of tools in the Makita range from drills to angle grinders to chainsaws - there range is vast.

Stay clear of the cheaper Makita range in B&Q et al as the batteries are not compatible with other tools.

If it's in budget the Toolstation twin kit @ £199 will not disappoint you I'm sure.
