General rule of thumb when buying tools. If it has everything in one box it's aimed at the occasional DIYer and the brand is eye candy.
Sets like these will never be as good as buying the individual components/sets individually.
There is a reason why this is £16 whereas one masonry bit could be £4 on its own.

I agree with this.
I have worked most of my life in the Construction Industry and in my experience it's always better to buy the one or two individual tool(s) you need when you actually need them (and make sure they're of good quality) rather than buy lots of tools you don't need on the off chance you might need some of them one day.
Ok, it all looks nice and tidy in the box, but when you finally use a few of the pieces from the box and they either break or struggle to do the job, it will become apparent why people like me say this.
Irrespective of whether they're for DIY use, in my opinion if you plan to do a quality job, do it safely (and with minimal effort) then always get a good quality tool to do it.

I have had one of these for a couple of years now, it's OK for light diy work, normally sells for £19.99 so it's a decent price.

Agree with the fact thats its probably better to just go out and buy the tools you need, but having one of these around for the casual DIYer can save in situations where you never realized you needed a spade bit

I have this set and as other have said it's okay, but not great or good enough for trade.
If you're after good masonry bits, try Bosch multipurpose ones, they go through most things, including porcelain tiles (keep the tip wet - ooooh eeerr!)

You you are right the simple reason is that " People are very rich and they have to spend money anyway. If you tell them it is cheap they won`t buy it, but if you tell them it is very expensive they will buy it blindly ..lol.. Rule of thumb " play with their psycology..

Well I am not a professional at anything DIY related. However I've bought, used and borrowed enough cheap bundles to appreciate the right tool for the job. I should add, I didn't say anyone should rush out and buy every part of this individually. More that it's worth buying the tools you actually need.

I had the same problem, the masonary drill bit tip blunts easily. then on further use the bit just heats up without penetrating the masonary much and then bends....

Makita great tools, but this set is rubbish and I think at this price, it's overpriced. Drill bits are useless

Good price for what it is...have had for a few years and like others, various drill bits have now snapped and I now have several missing from the box...I sort of assumed this was normal with the thinnest drill bits as all the sets I have bought, the thin ones have always broken relatively quickly. So are the more experienced people here saying that this doesn't happen with thin bits if you buy expensive ones, and assuming so, which ones are recommended cos I am getting a bit sick of having lots of sets where the thin ones are mostly missing?

8 Jun 163#24
...but this cheap all-in one set will be perfect for many unexperienced diyers to check which exactly bit they will need before spending few quid for good - but incorrect one... also some bits might be used only once for small job. The best choice is to buy this cheap set and then few high quality bits which you think will be used often...

Buy the few masonary bits you will need (5.5mm and 6.5mm) and buy decent quality ones. No need to get 500 drill bits you will never need.

I've got this and found a lot of the screw driver bits would snap and shear off if a screw put up restistance. The bits don't last, especially the masonry ones.

This kit will likely frustrate trade buyers before long. My experience of this kit suggests this is squarely aimed at DIYers in terms of the quality overall. Todays price and the normal price seems to backs that up.
