Yes, as I said in my post number #58.
I have an auto hdmi switch with three ports, one for humax, one for blu ray player, and one for my Amazon FireTV. The FireTV is always on. My auto switch normally works anyway, but it is also a remote controlled switch. Therefore I added the switch as a device, and taught my harmony remote the 3 commands, one for each hdmi port. I then taught each activity (eg humax) which HDMI input to use on the switch (HDMI 1), and send out that command as part of the activity start up.
Finally, I've also added a command to the screen of my harmony 525 (although you could map it to any button on the remote) to send a command out to the specific switch on the HDMI auto switch. That way, if for whatever reason it doesn't switch successfully, you can press a button to get it to switch, without having to use help. This is particularly useful for the rest of the family, who despite telling a lot of times over a lot of years to "keep the remote pointed at the tv area until it stops flashing" don't. This way they can easily fix the problem.
Hope it helps. If you want to know anymore let me know. I've been using harmony remotes for years, with very awkward to program kit.

I was reading that there can be some issues if you have a device that is always on (like Apple TV) connected to a HDMI switch that can automatically switch? Have you encountered anything like that?
crabby09
22 Jun 161#66
Very good point. I had forgotten about that! We changed our Humax remote to it's "alternative" IR set as there was a conflict with another device and the harmony learnt them happily.
Can't learn RF though, just in case anyone asks.

You don't need a compatible device that's in the list - mine isn't. Harmony's can control anything that use IR (infrared) - just use the learning function, add it as a device, then add that to an activity.
I've used mine to control lots of weird and wonderful stuff.

As there is a new version out will Logitech continue to support this model?
Deal is back on again as someone suggested it would be. So currently £84.99. Have just bought one.

Yes, have an old Panny plasma with only 1 HDMI input, and have a 3 port hdmi switch going into it. In theory the switch should auto switch, but doesn't always manage to do this (my FireTV is always on, so I guess that throws it off). I have built in a switch input command for each activity, just in case. I've also assigned a manual switch to the screen (of my beloved Harmony 525).

Purchased this on the same lightning deal that ran last week, an excellent purchase and great piece of kit. Pretty easy to set up too using either a PC or the free Android/iPhone apps.
Would recommend totally.

What is so magical about this remote? Does it take the bunny out of hat? If you lost your remote then buying the replacement would be a lot cheaper then that. Pointless I think..:neutral_face::confused::confused:

Cheers. Bought it as I've not had a basic Uni remote for 5+ Years. Had some leftover Amazon vouchers from QuidCo so paying much less than the current prime price.
Hoping it'll control most of the following:
42" Panny Plasma
19" LG LED
Yamaha SR-301 (sound bar/subwoofer/AV receiver)
Amazon Fire Tv
Virgin TiVo
PS4,Xbone,Mac
rama26285

It does control the PS4, just isn't able to turn it on (which is what Sony denied access for). However once it's on, this remote can control your PS4.

I'm tempted to get one and sell my Harmony Hub.

I've had replacement products from them, they don't even ask to see it destroyed any more.
I've had 3 mice and 1 Harmony replaced for fairly minor faults (scroll wheel rubber worn out... one button a bit 'squishy') without even returning the faulty items.

I'm not sure about the new FireTV stick but I'd be surprised if it wasn't supported by Logitech. Also the hub is connected to your home network and I think it is able to control some devices over WiFi.

20 Jun 16#35
Thanks, I had no idea it could control a Fire TV, that's pretty interesting. I assumed Fire TV was controlled by Wifi direct and not bluetooth tbh. I know the newer Fire TV with voice remotes are Wifi so might not work with the hub.
dws199
20 Jun 161#34
Yes it can control both of those devices via the hub (which is included) that can control Bluetooth devices such as the PS3 and FireTV. I use it for both

This is a pretty good video on the remote from LinusTechTips, I was looking on youtube myself and was surprised to see it as he usually does PC stuff.
Yes. If you have a device that's not in their library, Logitech help you add all the codes manually, then add it to their database.

Ugh. Must... resist...
Huge fan of Logitech products, my Harmony One and my DiNovo Edge are both over five years old and working just about as well as they did new, which is the only reason I haven't already clicked buy. My brother even has the old Z-5500 5.1 speaker set which I never should have parted with, aside from the backlight on the receiver dying they're still stellar and must be eight to ten years old.
Never had to do it and don't know if they still do it, but I loved their practise of asking people to smash their defective product with a hammer, send a picture, and they'd send a new one right out. Quality company.

20 Jun 16#30
As far as I'm aware the Harmony can't control a PS3 or a Fire TV though.
I read an article this morning which mentioned a beta test program for harmony remotes and amazon echo.
Eventually you may be able to voice control the remote.
Not sure if it applies to this remote, or whether echo will arrive in this country. Not sure about anything really, just thought I'd mention. move along ---->

My Harmony One was without a doubt the best tech purchase I ever made... Luckily when it died, they'd released the 950 and it frankly kicks the crap out of my beloved One.
It's got all those buttons media buttons the ultimate crazily put above the screen:
Only gripe is the lack of numbers... but the screen works really well and the family run on images these days.

20 Jun 16#23
Yes.
It's completely customisable, so you can have (for example) the channel buttons controlling the TV, whilst the volume does the audio and the play\pause for the PS3.
You can assign any button to do anything, for any device. I've not found a device which isn't built in to the software (it needs setting up on a PC), but if you do find a device it has a learning function too.
It's a good bit of kit - needs a bit of setup work, but once you have it, it really does replace all other remotes.
Edit: It doesn't control the PS4 though, if you're thinking of getting one of them. Sony denied access, annoyingly.

All the new ones have stupid design with not enough hard keys. The best model was the Logitech 900 it had hard keys for important stuff plus RF. I am tempted to try and pick up a 2nd hand one in case my current one fails.

Don't really use the buttons on my 650 come to think of it, Ha, just stupid why they put two important parts of a remote on opposite ends lol.
Great deal with the hub, but feel it will be a pain considering I use the volume, channel buttons and pause, rewind and fast forward all the time.

I am a harmony geek, but it beats me why they decided to put the volume, channel controls and pause and play buttons at opposite ends of the remote, I have never seen a sky or virgin remote like this, in-fact never seen it in Canada when I was there either.
Why could they not leave it looking like the old harmony one remote, but an updated look.
I am waiting for the 950 to drop as that looks like a normal remote. My 650 will do for now.
