Lidl will have these on sale from this coming Thursday 23rd June, usually sell out within 2-3 days.
I used to have a Bosch Orbital Sander, cracking tool used it many times on full house repaints for my children (Nuisances) it eventually bit the dust, (LOL) the one thing I didn't like was the cost of the sanding discs used to be about a £4 for 6.
I bought a Parkside Orbital Sander 3 Years ago for about £15, slightly bigger then the Bosch and a bit heavier, better Design (IMHO), its done 3 house repaints, another cracking tool, a lot cheaper then the £50 for a Bosch and the sanding discs are usually £3 for a pack of mixed 30 discs YES THIRTY, that makes a BIG difference to the cost of using one of these.

I think she'll be okay. It's not even plugged in!

She *may* be wearing eye protection, but she'll ruin her back leaning forward like that, because she's not wearing plugs or ear defenders she will end up stone deaf and have constant tinnitus from excessive noise, also end up in hospital with respiratory disease because she's not wearing a mask!

this might be a dumb question. isn't the round one not the random orbital sander and the square based one the orbital sander?

Lidl Parkside Sander Orbital Sander (Round) or Random sander (oblong) £16.99 @ Lidl
I was under the impression that random orbital sanders were usually round?

Which type would be better for sanding down furniture prior to varnishing or painting?

Both, oblong for large flat areas, round for detail.

Which type would be better suited to sanding down freshly plastered walls?

As far as I am aware you should not have to sand down newly plastered walls, unless they have not been plastered/skimmed properly. Ask the plasterer who did the work, if I had to I would use the random orbital (oblong) with the finest grade sheets and do it VERY lightly.

I have this sander, bought last time these were on offer at Lidl.
For the price, it's a good piece of kit, but I do find it lacking in power sometimes from the 400W model I used previously. Additionally, the lack of any variable speed can be a bit frustrating at times, but again, for the price, I don't feel as though that's a massive grievance.
As anyone who may have read my most recent posts on Parkside Impact Drivers, Sabre Saws and the like, I'm a big fan of Lidl's tool offerings on the whole. This has probably the one that has lived up least to my high expectations, but again, it's £17!

Will mention all of your health and safety concerns to her as she is popping round later to demonstrate advanced "rubbing down techniques "
I have a Bosch random orbital sander (pex 220) and the pad on mine is knackered now, won't hold Velcro discs and they fly off, so i use spray adhesive and stick them on, it's so much better, can now buy a pack of sandpaper and get 30 odd discs for £1! Just a heads up if anyone else has a problem with Velcro discs! I never paid anywhere close to £4 for 6 discs though, you might want to try Amazon for a brand like silverline.

That's not very safe. Is that leaded paint she's sanding down? What happen to H&S?
