You're referring to the curved variant of this TV (EG960V). This one has the HDMI 2.0a ports. Fantastic TV. I had been holding on to my plasma for years saying I wouldn't buy another TV until 4K OLEDs came below £2000. Bought this a couple of months ago and love it. Picture just blows everything out of the water.
Next one up with better picture quality is over £3000.

I am sure with such big box items they would have a record of the serial number, unless you're brave enough to swap the serial number stickers too!

Great price though. However, the sweet point for me is when the 65inch version drops to £1500. Don't mind waiting for a couple more years.

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like you're really happy with your tv. Saw the TV on display in Currys and HD and 4K looked amazing. What's the SD picture like? And have you tried using a PS4 or Xbox One on it? Any issues with the response rate?

I was a bit worried about SD pictures after reading the AVforums discussions. They look great however. I sit about 10 feet away from the TV and am slightly short sighted so that helps. The colours are amazing though and it was such an eye opener to see how much the display on my 6 year old plasma had faded with near constant use.
You can load up some SD contend onto a USB stick and take it to Curry's if you're concerned. I haven't played any games on the TV

In relation to SD, Iwas dead set on getting a 910v when the price dropped to £1099 however, since I didnt act spontaneously and have missed the boat on that one, I am seriously considering this set.... we sit about 9-13ft away.

Most content will be SD then streamed or HD. I know most source material is garbage but am contemplting curve vs flat considering the price difference is now a few hundred as opposed to several hundreds. Decisions, decisions!

tempted can it play HDr content from 4k players ? can it be wall mounted ?
BestHotDeals
25 Jun 16 #32
Yes, and yes, though for the second one, I believe you need a specific LG branded wall-mount which costs around 80 quids.

Though just today, the guy at PC World told me that's not the case and a 'normal' one should work, so a clarification from someone in the know here would be awesome.
brookysm
25 Jun 16 #33
How many 4k devices do you need to connect to it?.....
supernaveed
25 Jun 16 1 #34
I've used my standard VESA mount that I had from my plasma. You can use it but the TV only had space for two screws/bolts. It's fine and secure for a standard mount but I wouldn't use it for a tilting bracket. Sure it would be fine to tilt but it took me enough convincing my wife just to let me get this one let alone the replacement for the one I didn't put up properly.
FireBIade200
25 Jun 16 #35
Are you sure? According to LG there is again a ZA and a ZD model, the latter having the HDMI2.0a ports.
supernaveed
25 Jun 16 #36
I may be completely wrong but I still think you're thinking of the 960v(the curved one) not the 950v. The AVforums review has it down as 3 x HDMI 2.0a ports and there are comments in the forums saying that it doesn't have a za and a zd model.
In any case, happy to be proven wrong as I don't want to be giving people bad advice. One point though Is that regardless of the ports, HDR works perfectly with Amazon instant video. Haven't tried it on Netflix yet
miaomiaobaubau
25 Jun 16 #37
even the cheap vestel's do come with 4 full functioning 2.0 hdmi connections. 2 only seems ridiculous on a tv of this price and I associate it with a cheap tv apart from the fact that LG is nothing special.

Nothing special? This is pretty much generally regarded as the best TV set currently available.

That's hilarious ! Paying people to leave fake reviews. I'm guessing other companies do it. Found some reviews on Amazon where at least it does say "item given free in exchange for review".

As far as the js9000 telly goes, it isn't quite to the OLED standard, but it's as close as you can get without spending silly money. But it's apples and oranges, I bought the best 65 inch telly for the money and for £899, I bit their hand off!

This oled telly rocks, and when it drops to £999 in a few months, I'll sell mine and buy this one!

Have heat !
miaomiaobaubau
27 Jun 16 #51
where did you get that at £899, please? The js9000 is still the very best around and includes HDR, also one of the fastest screen responses. Cannot comment about the 2016 range, but they lost the 3d. All LG are a continuous blurring compared to Samsung, even the lower specifications Samsung are faster. People does not want understand, they keep saying that their car is always the best, how do they know if they do not try??? when Samsung was producing deeper black many years ago, LG was producing light grey, lol
brookysm
28 Jun 16 #53
My god you really are a fanboi aren't you! I've bought 3 Samsung TVs and now 4 LG and I'll take the LG's every time. Far better OS, and none of this blurriness you're waffling over and if for one minute you try and compare HDR on a LED compared to OLED then it becomes clear you haven't a single clue what you are talking about!

Oh and if you have a problem with an LG, they fix it 1st time usually by swapping out the set not on the 2nd or 3rd repair like Samsung seem to do - never ever had a company so hell bent on poor customer service hence why we don't have a single Samsung product in the house anymore.
brookysm
28 Jun 16 #54
Can't honestly see these dropping to £999 especially within a few months - they have no direct competition and the tech is still expensive to manufacture - £1399-1499 next year when the 2017 models are out maybe but sub grand I really can't see it.
smiler594
28 Jun 16 #55

Dropped to £1799 without a code now - maybe makes quidco a better bet.

Just to clear up some comments on here, this is last years model. That isn't to say it's not a great TV - it's OLED after all, but the new models, they fixed a lot of banding, vignetting and crushed blacks on this model. They do retail for £2799 however!

This has to be the best TV you can get for under £2000 surely. I'm keen to get a new TV, my sony looks like it's got a oxo grid setup on it, but, need it for less. I would buy this but can't reconcile the depreciation on TVs, they are basically worth nothing 2nd hand after a year or so.
FlouryBread
1 Jul 16 #60
With depreciation it depends when you buy something. Obviously if you buy brand new when it first comes out, then you'll lose a lot - early adopters always do - but if you buy now, when it's coming to the end of its retail life now the new models are out, it's not going to be as much.

Even the 1080p 2014 oled models are still selling for around £1k second hand at the moment.
smiler594
4 Jul 16 #61
This will be £999 or under at Xmas. It's a hell of a good tv. It'll still be as good for Xmas. In the meantime I'm enjoying my el cheapo Sammy which rocks !!

10 Jul 16 #63
I've had this TV since the first day of release in september last year, and am an active member of avforums.

I love this set, it's hard to communicate how amazing true black is, at night the room goes totally dark, as if the tv is turned off. I could never go back to a non oled, I had 2 pioneer kuros before this and this oled destroys them.

The downsides do technically exist, vignetting etc, but typically you only see them with test material, they never rear their heads with day to day viewing.

Amazon video HDR is fantastic with the built in app, netflix hdr is ok but currently the built in app doesn't do it, nvidia shield tv netflix app does though.

This for me was a bargain at £3500 and is unbelievable at £1799.

My only regret was not buying the 65".

The sound is just average on them so a soundbar or amp would be preferable for movies etc.

15 Jul 16 #64
Have just joined the ranks of happy people who own this TV.. got the last display model from Richer Sounds from £1070 as they cleared out for the 2016 stock... left with a ****-eating grin n my face.

Beautiful TV, and seemed to have fewer artifacts than the 2016 models on the same demo material. can't see any problems, the webos2 controls are a joy, and the new Plex app is amazing. Also 3d is surprisingly fun - never thought i would admit that.
funnelhead69
15 Jul 16 #65
My Vesa mount fits just fine, but the bottom bulge means you have to mount the TV very high: mine almost touches the ceiling at these moment. could be solved with some bits of wood with a couple of homes drilled into them...
hukd_addict
16 Jul 16 #66
Bargain well done. Any picture issues? Are the ex demo ones calibrated professionally do you know? I imagine they would or should be.
