My son has a gaming system with 16gb of ram and has asked for it to be increased. Is it easy enough to add? Not overly techy but can follow instructions

If you can push a coin into a vending machine, you can push a stick of memory into a motherboard. It only fits one way around as it has notches, so easy enough.

Your son does not need more than 16gb of ram in a gaming system. Any more than 16gb is pointless unless he does 4k video editing, 3D modelling or graphic design work.

I know the card he uses is gtx980i and some of the games are stating at least 16gb of ram. He plays Ark and city skylines.
He also has flight simulator equipment and does photo and video editing.
Is 16gb plenty then as I said some of the newer games are stating "at least" 16gb ram.

So nothing else needs changing on the pc. Just push in the ram and away we go?

I have the 2400MHz version of these clocked at 2600MHz.
Theyve been great!

If it was 2400mhz sticks then I would have voted this hot.

I do video editing for youtube on 8GB of RAM and play a load of new games I wouldn't say the RAM is holding the pc back at all, you have to take into consideration how many slots are free on the motherboard what type of RAM is already in the system as it has to be installed in matching pairs.

There are a few other technicalities, such as you need to know what's in there already to try and match it up. This one won't necessarily work together with his existing ram. If you want to PM me I can help you out.

No game asks for minimum 16GB. Some are 8 minimum, 16 recommended (star wars battlefront comes to mind) but your son doesn't need 32. If he can afford it and wants to waste his money then sure, go for it, but 32GB is for video editing/3d programs for the time being.

Your son doesn't play minecraft per chance?
Those forums were the bane of my life. Every problem a user reported (my game lags, graphical glitches, crashes) was met by the same response: "Buy more RAM" Which is terrible advice btw
As others have said in this thread, 16GB is plenty for a gaming rig. Adding more won't make any games run faster Although it could make them run worse under certain circumstances

Should be compatible. Bare in mind that it's not ECC RAM though. (If that's important to you)

32gb for 3d in some circumstances isn't enough.. 64gb is quite comfy ... even for photoshop i'd now say 32gb is the bare min ..

I'm running Photoshop CC and have edited photos for several wedding etc on a machine with 4gb
Sure it would run a little sweeter with more.

Due back June 16th, and now they're a whopping 20p cheaper.
Has anyone had them arrive yet? I ordered 4, 2 have been dispatched, were out for delivery but now due sunday, and the other two are 'not yet dispatched'

Is it bad that I cancelled and reordered to save 20p?
Not at all. I'm tempted to cancel the two of mine that haven't been dispatched yet then order two more separately with no-rush delivery for a couple of quid credit...
Opening post
Only in Red though!

They'll most likely change which colour gets the "discount", they did before at least.
Just details on the ram.
