Look at tinned food, that has a best before date but can be eaten for years after, did you see that show where they found some tins of Bully Beef from the second world war, opened it and it was just as fresh as the day it was packaged?

Why would that matter? You can eat things after their best before date. It's not a use by or a sell by date, it literally just tells you when a product is "best" eaten, it can be eaten long after that date but may not be quite at its best, still safe though
