maybe they should do more to keep existing customers who have been with them for years rather than offering incentives to new customers who will play the bank hopping game every 6 months

I have multiple Halifax current accounts with zero money in them you don't need cash to credit these accounts with the monthly £750 if you have a overdraft as you can use the overdraft instead with no charges or costs.
The monthly £750 from my overdraft goes in one account for seconds then I transfer It through the other accounts online and then put it back to clear the overdraft in the original account it came from .
This takes seconds/minutes which I do in daytime banking hours before 3pm .
Direct debits can be gotten at no cost as well.

I have a rolling standing order between all my accounts so you don't have to have salary paid in. So long as you have £1750 sitting somewhere like your main current account just transfer it in and out back to where it started.

Yeah but you have to pay in 1,750 pound a month some people don't have that pay in every month also need 2 DD's

Having a overdraft on a current account is obviously going to count or even the ability to procure a overdraft may affect a credit check.

Credit score doom and the doom mongers as with all things banking are rife .
In your life time the banks always win so if you can win a battle or two such as these halifax offers... go for it.
No bank can ever be trusted but taking a few offer freebies with some minor work is a short term customer win.
evostick47
9 Jun 16#61
I'm obviously not asking for your credit score to be posted on a social media website, that's ridiculous. I'm just asking for some evidence that it effects it. If its mentioned in articles could you post a link please? Thanks.

Switching banks has never caused any me or the missus any problems with credit rating long term.
Applications will leave a footprint on your credit file but I think the general word of caution is don't go overboard just before applying for something crucial like a mortgage application.
As current accounts provide the best instant access interest rates, between us me and the missus have over a dozen different current accounts.

I could post my credit score before and after opening up a new account, but that's personal, so you just have to take my word for it. Plus some articles about switching providers for the bonus do mention this.
evostick47
9 Jun 16#58
Does it? I always see this comment on these posts, yet I had loads of accounts, claimed loads of rewards and was able to get my mortgage and new phone contracts with no issues at all.
I respectful ask that you provide some proof of your claim please.
Careful about opening too many accounts. It lowers your credit score.

I have 4 reward accounts so pull £20 a month in fivers I,m not sure if a 5th is worth the risk .
Mine were all pre 2012

The switching is very quick, so you can switch a couple of times in one month if your organised. Plus I ran one in my name and my wife did the same. So that's £450ish per month. It does take a bit of effort but I guess it depends how much you want some free money.

She has been round to the local branch who were about as useful as a chocolate teapot, then told to phone their hotline/customer care number where nobody ever answers she told me!lol
Not impressed.

Thanks. I've only recently moved into my current address so assume it's why they want to verify (actual production of documents on their list isn't a problem). Was more whether the switching/£125 was part of the online process or can be completed after account opening

Its a nice bank I was with till the last month. IT frontend is clean and they don't give you any card reader. You can see the pending transactions till it gets posted finally unlike other banks. Also branches are less crowded when you go in for cash deposit/withdrawal. The 125 is paid on the first day of switching(balance carried forward from old account). Also they pay 5quid each month if you deposit 750 every month for 12 months.

You need to put a certain amount in to the account every month - please correct me but I believe it is £800. This can be the same £800 every month and you can immediately remove it. Eg. You have another bank with HSBC with £800 in. Once a month you move that amount over then the move it straight back. As long as it registers you don't receive the charge - which I believe is £10 a month. If you meet that amount they give you £5.
I signed up recently and I took their holiday insurance, phone insurance and break down cover (from home) for £10 a month. So as long as I meet the above criteria they credit me £5 a month so the 'perks' just listed only cost me £5 every month which is a lot cheaper than standard iPhone 6s insurance and I've already used the breakdown so I'm quids up

If you want to stick with your current bank, like I did, just create a new account with them 1st. Then use it to switch. Then once you've moved that to Halifax, claimed you monies, use that to switch to the next incetivised account. You can make hundreds if you're organised. I did it in my name and my wife's. Did Halifax, First Direct, M&S, Yorkshire Bank and another I can't remember. It's really very easy but check carefully what each bank requires to claim the incentive. Good luck.
DazLFC
8 Jun 16#34
This means you have reduced level identification and there is not enough info held electronically for the bank to be happy to say they have fully verified your identity. If you also don't have the required i.d, you may still only qualify for basic facilities
DazLFC
8 Jun 16#33
yes it does effect your credit rating, as multiple searches implies higher risk. General rule of thumb is not to have more than 3 in 6 months or 6 in a year
DazLFC
8 Jun 16#32
in a word, No
DazLFC
8 Jun 16#31
what they don't tell you is that constantly changing your bank account can negatively effect your credit rating...remember every time you do it,especially if its just for the cash, then it leaves a footprint and another search on your file. not worth it. Why should I move?? It's up to the bank to convince you to stay, that's why they employ retention teams
