Mine came all beat up unfortunately. Ordered 1-4 before from France which I was planning on selling and they came in the plastic cases, this didn't and came in all flimsy cardboard sleeves. Bit disappointed so will return. I've looked on YouTube and plastic ones exist, just no idea where grrr

I have read the books, granted several years ago. Yes you're right on those details; I didn't say they correlate exactly. That's been the case for the entire running of the show.
As to your last point, I think the show's writers know more than you think. To quote Weiss and Benioff: "we want to know how everything ends... we just sat down with him and literally went through every character". Yes I'm sure there's a lot of detail that they couldn't know because it's not on paper yet and/or Martin hasn't ironed it out himself. But they certainly know enough to reliably draw out the series to its conclusion.

You don't like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad? Arguably the best two TV shows of the last decade.
I hate to think what you think makes good TV. TOWIE and Made in Chelsea, perhaps?

Looks like you haven't read the books or you would know better. Firstly season five overtook the books in a number of storylines e.g Stannis's and Tyrion's. Secondly it was the first season to take a noticable departure from the books e.g Jaime going to Dorne and Sansa to Winterfell (both DID NOT HAPPEN in the books). Thirdly i can guarantee you no matter how closely Martin is involved with the show he's keeping the details of the next book to himself and probably just giving the basic plot points to the showrunners.

You can go straight to season 6 the same way you can go straight to LOTR: The Return of the King, Back To The Future Part 3, Return of the Jedi, The Godfather Part 3 and X-Men Part 3 without seeing the originals. In other words, you'll be completely and utterly lost. Stuff that happens in episode 1 of Game Of Thrones is referenced six seasons later. You need to concentrate hard and seriously pay attention to derive maximum satisfaction from this amazing show. It's most definitely not for the casual viewer who wants the set-up, conflict and resolution all taken care of in the same episode. It just doesn't work that way.

with my usual tastes, I should love this, everyone at work does... however, I've watched a few of the first series and thought it was absolutely awful, more overated than Breaking Bad - even the opening titles annoyed me!
boobs n stuff aren't enticing enough for me to watch, as folk I know just say it has boobs n dragons, what's not to love?!
is there a series I can jump to when it gets good, so I give it another try? can I jump straight to season 6?

If you had bought a NowTV box for around £12 - £15 with the 3 month entertainment voucher you could have watched all five seasons and the latest season 6 as it is aired. With season six about to end the earlier five seasons are no longer available on NowTV.
I agree with others here that its now being stretched out, its in danger of what other successful series have done, milking for moneys sake. A good box set has an arc of 5 seasons at most.
Basically is what most folk want to see is Daenarys and her dragons burning Westeros and then burning the Whitewalkers, get it on.

I'm really enjoying it still, but have to agree that season 6 feels quite different to the previous 5.
With the first 5 the producers have so much material from the books that they have to work hard cutting it down to fit into a season. Now that 6 has gone beyond where the books are it does feel differently paced - they've been given the main storyline by Martin, but having to work hard to flesh out the rest of it. I agree with LuBu above - it has felt a bit too positive compared to previous seasons and giving the viewers what we want, without the oh **** moments that cause the internet to implode
but who knows, in 24h time we will see if we get left on a cliff hanger - can't wait

When you say the show's writers don't compare to Martin, do you mean that the show isn't as well-written as the books (though it's kind of apples and oranges) or that Martin would write the show better? I'm not sure if you're aware that Martin writes one full episode per season himself, is an executive producer and works incredibly closely with the writers and directors. If you don't think it meets his vision, then you're mistaken.
And to correct you, the first *five* seasons correlate with the books (season 5 ended at the end of A Dance with Dragons; Denaerys being surrounded by the Dothraki horde whilst searching for Drogon). Rest assured however, Martin has told Benioff and Weiss EXACTLY how the story unfolds and ends.
Finally, the Dorne storyline is in the books and (as with most) much more extensively covered than in the show!

26 Jun 162#38
Same here. It's cos the first four were based on the books and the last two have overtaken them. The show writers don't compare to Martin. The last season imo has been a by the numbers affair with too many feel good moments. So NOT what Martin's books are about. Although i reckon season six is a vast improvement on five with it's terrible and pointless Dorne storyline.

Voted hot but I'm just to lazy to keep swapping disks to rewatch this series. It's about time there was a streaming paid for service with quality on par with blue Ray.
Series 6 over and still no one else has tried to forcefully take the mcguffin 'throne'
Now which character shall we kill off next? getting a bit bored
If it was a British show it would have ended by now, but as its American there will be at least 78 series
