Freshly baked daily, large jam doughnuts dusted in powdered sugar, the brioche-like dough is pillowy soft in texture. These are a must try for 19p a doughnut if you're in Lidl.

I never like buying food that's open to being touched or licked by passers by.
That's why I always buy food packaged or behind a counter.

They are the best imo for that indulgent moment and need a proper sugar rush.

Couple of days went to my nearest lidl and most if their freshly baked items were looking absolutely lush! When I saw their iced cinnamon roll, I just had to buy it and omg! Missus bought a few (warm) maple pecans and vanilla crowns, tried one of each...omg!

I don't like too much sugar on my doughnut so wouldn't buy these but the sweet chilli pizza type thing they sell is truly awesome.

The jam used to be far better when they were 29p.....absolutely average now. The same goes for the deluxe choclate cake and the topping now devoide of chocolate flakes.

I bought two chocolate croissants a while back and the lad on the till picked them up, looked at me with narrow eyes and said slowly 'Did.... did you stuff a cookie in there?'. I had to explain what a chocolate croissant was, and that I wasn't trying to smuggle cookies out inside plain croissants. Good luck buying a turducken from that lad.

I agree with you, the bakery section in Borehamwood is openhouse, surprised this meets the Health Inspectorate rules. Saw a kiddy ( unsupervised picking up each item and giving it a sniff ) told him to go and find Mummy before he handles food but totally ignored. Told an Assistant she didnt understand, perhaps people have different standards to me?

The whole chocolate cake went down hill not just the lack of flakes, must have changed suppliers.
Co-op sells one that I think is the same as the old Lidl chocolate cake.

powdered sugar? wheres the crunch? Sainsburys are the best Supermarket Doughnut hands down. 5 for 65p. Cant lose.

You need to try these. I used to think the 5 pack ones from supermarkets were good until I tried these.

Just got back from Majorca and in the lidls over there they have all their bakery stuff behind perspex and you have to move it in to another section with a really long spatula to get it. Much more hygienic.

3 Jun 16#32
Exercise more, then you won't need to worry about their calories :smirk:

Our hands are probably less sweaty in general than those in Majorca. So it's probably more necessary? You'd just dissolve all the sugar.

M&S packaged food is the worst. Their hygiene levels are the worst

I use to be a regular at the bakery section until I found two flies enjoying themselves on the cakes, did complain in writing to Lidl got a reply that they would introduce clear lids however 18 months later still no change....unless it's fresh out of the oven and your there before the flies...think again

3 Jun 163#37
lol these aren't freshly baked, they are 'freshly' defrosted
speric07
3 Jun 163#38
Maybe they were picked and frozen within 2.5 hours like their peas?

3 Jun 16#40
Do you know how people have handled those tongs? ;p
jadepennington
3 Jun 16#41
I doubt that's their reasoning behind it even if it were true. I would say just basic hygiene would be why they do it like that.

wow a saving on 10p. Seriously. Free diabetes is the reason this is worth buying.

It's not just about the saving but also about the taste. A doughnut once in a while won't do you any harm. Eat responsibly and life will be a joy!

Nowt wrong with using your hands in production as long as they're washed and it's all hygienic. For instance I don't think I've ever seen a baker use gloves and they couldn't be more intimate with the product they're producing & my local sandwich shop are the same.
I do understand being wary of the public though, I've see adults stick their hands in pick & mix when the scooper is right in front of them.

Yeah their doughnuts are lovely but when u see some people handling the bread etc then putting it back it kind of puts u off. Only have a doughnut if the tray is full so u can tell that no one has messed with them.

Have to agree, I dont shop at sainsburys (too far) but if Im passing, I'll go in just for these (ring doughnuts). yum.

4 Jun 16#63
They look like they are handling chicken. Considering the sandwiches will not be cooked at consumer end & consumer may not keep the product in the safe temp zone- That is high risk and they should be wearing gloves. WTH are they wearing aprons & sleeves but not gloves? I spent 7 years in a high care facility (cooked meats)
Quickblood
5 Jun 16#64
Yeah I'm not too bothered as long as they're clean, local sandwich shop is using cooked meats too and no gloves.
These have been. 19p for sonetime now. I absolutely love these, yes they work out more expensive than your 5 for 50p but, oh wow sooooo much nicer. Go on give them a try!!!

She had an Essex accent, but they have to work so hard as the way they make a profit is to have half the staff of the Big 4 supermarkets and they work them like slaves. in my opinion. Why can't it be less cut and thrust these days?
