2) Battery is only doing the data moving on these as opposed to running numerous other apps and possibly updates on a phone. I've got close to the six hours on these and about two when I've used phones. Though guess you could get one with larger battery, cost likely end up rising.
Phones I've used have smaller number of devices that can be connected, and some devices wouldn't even find the hotspot.
But obviously with a phone you can use it as back up phone, sat nav, music player etc.
Possibly more durable, no screen to break if it falls.

Yes, it was instore only as per the title. Not only that but it was 2 months ago. Not shown online at all, the replacement shows at £49.99. This one was the osprey 2 mini. It is only shown online as a pay monthly option.

Changing our broadband over (landline), so have downtime of about a week. Looking for a good value data sim to put in my unlocked osprey 2.

In 12 days we've used 20gb.

Would really appreciate any advice/ suggestions.

I've got an id mobile sim in my mifi device and it works perfectly, unlimited data too and that's through the 3 network

ran out of the payg ones at my local curry's. but did get one free on a 17 contract for 2months.

I have a 5gb paym data sim (originally supplied with a mifi), and if I put the sim in a phone it won't even connect to the network (and this is in the UK). Really p****s me off, I pay for 5gb, I should be able to use 5gb in whatever device I choose. Probably going to end my contact with three over this tbh.

Is this worth buying and using it as a wifi instead of a landline? How much data can you get any 100gb sims left?

hi, Interested in one of these for using in south Spain in July. does anyone have experience of where you can buy a valid sim? can you buy a sim while in UK before you head out? cheers

If you wanted to stick a 3 data SIM in it and use it in a FAH country, using a mifi is better as otherwise, if you use a phone handset, it's seen as tethering and not allowed out of the UK.
I bought a cheap EE Rook and unlocked it - it works fine over here, but when I went to Norway, 3 knew it was in a phone handset and tethering was not permitted.
So horses for courses really - depends what your intended use is.

Take it back - go straight to the store manager. This should not be your problem - it should be theirs.

With Currys/PC World - as a customer (I have family that work there) - customer service and information accuracy are sacrificed to meet in-store targets. It is not okay for them to waste your time.

I thought all EE sims are 3-ini-1 sim.. I think if you check your mini SIM, the micro SIM will pop out.

Usually a cheap price for these MiFi's involves being stuck in a contract (or having to cancel and have a credit check) but this is PAYG if I read correctly? The 6GB SIM sells for £15 on eBay

The data that comes with it only works in the UK, if you unlock the device for 99p, you can get a local sim card with dada abroad

Considered this to take on holibags (Portugal) but EE drone says data allowance works in UK only. Anyone have experience otherwise?

The device itself isn't the very best - mine disconnects after 30-60 mins and neds rebooting to re-establish a connection, the battery only lasts about 3-4 hours and the reception is weaker than with other devices (such as the Huawei E5573).
That said, it's undeniable value :smiley:

I noticed that too. I have looked but the technical spec's provided are very basic.

Two things that would really add to this discussion:

1) Does anybody know what the technical differences between the old and the incomming (mini) models are?

2) If price wasn't a factor, why choose this type of device over purchasing a second (basic) 4g phone, putting a data sim in that and then using it as a hotspot device.
What would be the pro's / con's vs a dedicated hotspot (only) device, like the osprey?

If only 4G data on EE would get cheaper. A friend of mine has a 2Mb Talktalk connection. I tested my EE 4G connection on my phone at his place and I get a 20Mb+ so he'd be a lot better using a 4G router but it would be too expensive to run.

So, if I don't have any landline and/or Internet connection - this allows for Internet access?

got one the other day with 2 gig of data for £20. cancelled contract and Amazon do a 6 gig sim card for £13.

works ok with no problems. people say that if it doesn't get a signal it turns it self off but it doesn't the display goes black to save power.
