Absolute bargain picked one up today - expecting it to be marked all over but in mint condition out of the box.
If we do get any more hot weather it will be a great buy :)

Standard fan for £14.95 or this? Hmm I think I'll keep my £105 and by a cheap one.Dyson trying to fix a problem that isn't a problem.

We use them on our intensive care unit and i know other units do too. They don't collect dust half as much as bog standard fans and are much easier to clean

they are useless, stand at a distance and they do nothing. Also seems that in quite environment they produce, at a certain frequency, a disturbing background sound

Is refurbished the new word for second hand? every time I see the word, I keep thinking of house refurbishment. I guess all they do is wipe the finger prints from it and flog it

we have bought a few electrical items from there Corby store, the only advice I can give "make sure you live local" we have had two refurbished vacuums one bellowd black smoke the second didn't work, got our money back, cordless phone crackled the whole time , got money back, lastly sony freeview recorder failed after 2 days, took back for a refund.
I think the Argos refurbished means , we switched it on and it done something and then we placed it in a new box.
buyers beware

I got the Dyson v6 from here last week, £150 what a bargain, looks like new and works fantastic, have had a few electrics from here and not a problem with any
but these Dyson fans do look a bit if an expensive gimmick

As is usual with Dyson stuff, a triumph of marketing over function!
It's a fan, it moves air and if you stand in the draught, it cools you.
Make sure it's the V6, mini-turbo, brightly coloured, turbine version.

Dyson is the Apple of the white goods world, absolutely nothing special but overpriced and worshipped by people who just want it as a conversation / bragging piece on their home.
With the fan all they have done is put the blades in the base and blow the air out of a hoop with a slit in it, big deal. How many people have had unbearable difficulty with a normal fan?
Also they didn't invent the bladeless fan, Toshiba did more than 30 years ago but people are gullible and think Dyson is a genius.

I brought this when they first made them, I returned it within 2 days. Now this is the 6th update, so I don't know what's improved, but I have a unknown vertical stood fan from JL that cost me £119 and I'm confident it is better in everyway than this.

Dyson is a good British company but has lacked any real great invention since the bagless vacuum cleaner. They have improved hand dryers and I would say these fans are an improvement on a traditional fan. However they are not good value for money, maybe it is because they employ so many British workers? If they moved the rest of their operation to China they could probably half the price of all of their products. Is this what I want to see? NO WAY! If there is a market then keep on selling at high prices and keep on employing a few thousand people in Britain!

Probably lots of purchasers, or their partners returning them after deciding it really isn't worth ten times as much as a decent fan.

The ones in Tesco are the older model (GC701D40) The new improved one is GC713D40. However, apart from a display change, can't see any major changes between the latest model & the original.

19 Jun 16#29
I don't think they are an improvement on a traditional fan. Sure the permanent magnet motor should be much more efficient than the inefficient shaded pole motors used in many fans, but I suspect the efficiency gain of the motor would be more than countered by the air resistance from ducting the fast flowing air stream from it, and having noisy small fast rotating blades instead of the large slow rotating ones in a standard fan, and also by dust part clogging the ducting.
It's selling point is really gimmickry and looks.

Sorry my mistake... They are manufactured in Malaysia but research and development, testing and business headquarters is in Britain. When they moved the manufacturing out to Malaysia the prices were reduced. If they moved the whole company out there then maybe it would reduce all the prices again.

I've got one, it's ok I mainly bought it for the design (got the black and nickel one) and the remote control is handy, but since I bought it last year it has rarely been hot enough to need to use it. Tried to buy one in Summer 2014 during a heatwave and they were sold out everywhere so bought one the following January in the sale from Dyson direct. Last summer was not as hot and have only used it twice this year so far...but it looks good in my bedroom!

Dyson make great hoovers imo. Had a couple over the past decade or so, in addition to good Samsung and VAX hoovers, and the Dyson just seems to be slightly better made and better to use (lots of little things like the quality of the head, its weight, the way it attached/detaches, etc, are all better, and that's ignoring the slightly better bagless tech).
Tried these air fans in Costco. Seem a bit underwhelming and overpriced, but have to admit they're far easier on the eye than the traditional fans, and have a slimmer/smaller profile. If cost wasn't a factor or an issue I'd much rather one of these "bladeless" fans than the monstrous ones I currently have lol.
Also, I've been through about half a random brand dozen tower fans over the years (the oscillating tower fans). They all seem to break down after a period of time, averaging around £30 to £50. It's frustrating that they all have the same issue, it's mainly because I think they're cheaply made so the mechnism which the rotating part sits on breaks quite easily. If these Dyson ones are alot more robust then it's worth paying the extra.

How is this different from a traditional fan, apart from the dusty blades being hidden? And I think there's a lot of difference between a fan and air conditioning when it comes to medical issues.

Totally agree. I would love to see the rise of "Made in Great Britain" standing for good quality goods that are more expensive but still good value due to the quality of the product. This way the country is proud and prosperous weather we are in the EU or not!

20 Jun 16#54
No I didn't answer my own question - I simply said that the blades in this fan are hidden. So it will help hypochondriacs but no-one else, as it has blades just like any other fan. I take the point made by another contributor that not all the air passes over the blades though, unlike in a traditional fan.

Yeah they have them at our local (well nearest) hospital, I think tower fans would have been a better choice, more effective, much cheaper, likewise no buffeting and equally blade-less :o). Good income source for Dyson (~ £20,000 at just one hospital, according to a FOI) . I wonder if all the hospitals will be replacing them with dyson's newest filtered models so they don't have to pay someone to dismantle them and clean out the dust.
