Coming tomorrow in the Daily Mail, the story of thousands of families with their sad Daily Mail face pose complaining that the site crashed so they can't afford to go and have upset children cos they promised them a trip out to Drayton Manor

Anyone know if there's a limit to the amount to f tickets that you can buy? I don't plan to be an ass & buy 20 or something. Probably about 3 if I can
fridgehead to Nippon_Ex_Kira
15 Jun 16 1 #16
A maximum of 5 tickets can be purchased per transaction.
kpkiller to Nippon_Ex_Kira
15 Jun 16 #17
5 is the max so I think only 200 people will actually get these

15 Jun 16 #20
Is there another one being built in Europe?
NikLP
15 Jun 16 #21
a) Could they have made this any more confusing*? Why not just reduce first 1000 bookings after 12pm??
b) A whole ONE THOUSAND cheap tickets. With <=5 per transaction. So... ~250 bookings? As a maths/web dev, I'm predicting either enormous levels of disappointment or a very quick DDoS / server fallover!

* Exemplified by the ridiculously complicated pricing structure, what is this madness?? https://www.draytonmanor.co.uk/tickets-and-prices

Why don't they charge something like £5 instead (I'm sure most people would be happy with that price) and give away 10000. Still little chance of getting them but at least 10x the people will be lucky. 1000 will go in a blink of an eye.

The daft thing is that massively increasing server capacity these days is a matter of 2 clicks and 30 seconds.
And for half a day it would cost them less than £20 to bump the server up to the max to handle the traffic.
(I'm assuming it's built properly in the cloud and not hosted on a PC in an office somewhere!).

I find it hard to believe that the tickets have actually been successfully purchased by anybody given that the website has been almost completely inaccessible since about 10 minutes before twelve. Surely Drayton Manor should realise that this is going to create more negative publicity for them than positive? There's really no need for it either in these days of 'elastic' hyper-scale web providers who can scale automatically to meet demand.
GeoDogger
15 Jun 16 #242

What a con, website down 11-1
Finally get to select tickets, but froze again

I find it funny how they managed to sell these tickets when the website wasn't even loading! They only did this for marketing.
As a result, we should all boycott Drayton Manor for a year

So the page now loads, and its exactly the same as before:

"ALL YOU WILL NEED TO DO TODAY IS ENTER THE CODE WE SUPPLY YOU AT 12 MIDDAY..... WATCH THIS SPACE...

WE WILL UPLOAD THE CODE TO THIS PAGE AND SHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AT 12 MIDDAY, DON'T MISS OUT, WE ONLY HAVE 1000 TICKETS UP FOR GRABS AND WE THINK THEY ARE GOING TO BE POPULAR."

So if they are saying its sold out how did people manage to get the code, as the web site is exactly the same as it was before 12 with no code

love it, even at a low estimate they would have had 50-60k of people trying to get tickets.... each using the self proclaimed ipad, pc, mobile approach of multiple approaches = more chance of success. So thats 150,000 attempts and perhaps 200 groups will be able to get on and purchase 5 successfully.

Thats a likelihood of 0.133%... come on people...dont pout

Not really a surprise to be fair - they won't be the first and won't be the last to offer ticket deals in this way and then not have the server capacity to deal with demand.

The main issues I'd have would be that there are people who are saying the code was meant to go out by email and didn't - and it also didn't appear on the website where they said it would. Granted, that probably still wouldn't have helped people get tickets but if you say you are putting a code somewhere, at least put it there so people can get it and then waste two hours trying to get some.
TattooedMammy
15 Jun 16 #269
They released the code on twitter and facebook.

Their web site is still down, probably trying to avoid all the complaints. Think they would have known better after the Thorpe Park fiasco, I know they are different companies but they copied that promotion and the problems associated with that were well publicised

Response email from Drayton Manor on facebook .......

"Hi Mahesh, due to popular demand our website experienced difficulties. We are sorry that you were unable to purchase these 50p tickets and for any inconvenience caused. Many thanks DMP"...........

and then my response to that was.......

mhadley

Seriously, how many sour faced people can you get on 1 thread. It was a 1000 50p tickets.

How many of you are ones posting on Facebook, its a scam, con, lets set up a facebook group to boycott Drayton Manor. Or the best one, I was going to buy a full price ticket till I saw they were some being sold for 50p, now I cant get one of those I am never going there again and I am going to tell all my friends and post it on my facebook wall!!!!

Seriously though, people expecting a response to...can I see a list of all those people who bought a ticket for 50p, what.... yes certainly here are their details, sod the data protection act, but we hope it helps you sleep easier tonight

Why don't those who feels its a scam and con setup a gofundme page and with the possible donations you can take your case to European Court of Human Rights as you clearly feel your rights have been violated. Then Trading Standard and lets not forget Advertising Standards Agency

My payment got stuck in processing state for 30 mins after putting in payment details, after checking with Drayton Manor they said the order hadnt completed and all tickets had been sold. However I could still buy tickets on the 7 day advance offer.

Hmm £130+ for 5 tickets or the £2.50 I thought the payment was processing for. Think I'll give their compensatory offer a miss thanks.
LoonyWitch
15 Jun 16 1 #282
For all those whining about people whining...don't read the posts if you don't see it! Of course people are gonna whine! And rightfully so. People have wasted time for a chance to get what they thought was a genuine offer yet Drayton Manor's website wouldn't load prior to 12! For those who have mentioned getting onto the site and selecting tickets, I can't recall anyone on here stating payment had gone through or a confirmation email received. Then also on their Twitter account they said you could do it from a mobile yet there was no place to enter the promo code. So until someone confirms they got the tickets with a pic of the conf email, I won't believe it either. And for those claiming it will create bad publicity...there's no such thing! If it was a stunt it's hot people on social media buzzing about it so people will see it on their feeds...chances are it'll work its way around to a number of people who have never heard of the place and might book anyway? I must have mentioned it to 2 people today who haven't heard of it and have children who would love it!
SamboBambo
16 Jun 16 #283
So now that the dust has settled, did anyone manage to get tickets?
jonohanson
16 Jun 16 #284
With the amount of people on here you would expect to have seen a few posts from people who did get them. I have not seen one serious post yet on here, or their FB page of people successfully getting a ticket. Not to mention that you'd expect a few to be for sale on Ebay by now!!
LoonyWitch
16 Jun 16 #285
@jonohanson Exactly!

16 Jun 16 #286
I am calling it, they pulled the promotion, as it was the only way to sort it out
SilverViking
16 Jun 16 #287
They were posting 10+ minutes after 12 saying go get the tickets. In the comments they are replying to people saying they sold within 5 minutes. I don't think there were any and no one has got any. Normally one HUKD member would have been luckily. What a waste of time.
