I work for Game. I 100% know what i'm doing and how to do it correctly. I actually pay attention when this stuff comes down.
100% guranteed can NOT get double the price of a price match.
You ask about T&Cs. Well every single offer game ever does, has one similiarity in their t&c's and that is this. "Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer"
Price matching is an offer game run, double trade in day is another offer. £5 extra when trading in 2 titles is another different offer. Staff discount is an offer. as i already pointed out, in each of these offers T&C's is the "Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer" spiel.
you can either price match OR you can get double trade in OR £5 extra trade in when buying. It's not mix and match it's EITHER & OR
The offer hasn't done anything to GAME's image. It's probably not helped the image of the general public though, not looking very bright. T&C's weren't complicated, they were simply double trade in value today, can't be used with other offers.

Let me fix that for you:
Super Mario 3D World £24 last night £40 now.
Mario Kart 8 £15 now £28
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire £20 now £36
Luigi's Mansion £13 now £24
Zelda Majora's mask £13.50 now £27
Mario and Luigi Paper Jam Bros £15 now £28
Yes it's a bit sneaky for them to lower their values overnight but they can offer what they want and they are still pretty decent.

The price on the app will be doubled.
Just a tip for anybody that doesn't know; you can have them put the credit on a giftcard and spend in at GAME Online for some more cheaper prices. Makes this a GREAT deal.
They're still doubling those prices which would put it far beyond what they were offering yesterday (or what CeX is offering today)?

I'm fairly confident that you'd get one or the other, not both.
It wouldn't surprise me if there's something in the terms that caps the available credit according to the price that they currently sell for - otherwise this seems very open to abuse!

Sorry OP but had to vote cold as its not worth it with GAME's pricing. Even getting £32 store credit for GTAV sounds like a good deal, but I could sell on eBay and get around £28 cash after fees and delivery... Then I could spend that in CEX where games are hugely underpriced in comparison to GAME. Ok if you're used to only getting single GAME credit but if you have a CEX, better to go there!

cex games are ridiculously overpriced, that's why they give u a good cash price and trade in price for your games. I can buy equivalent new games cheaper than there used ones most of the time, when it comes to recent titles.

When I hear the trade-in value for some consoles in my local Game store it makes me laugh. The other day a guy bought in a working PS3 console which they tested and would have offered him £30 but because the controller's analogue stick was 'sticking' they wouldn't take it unless he replaced it with one of their second-hand controllers which cost £28, giving him a grand total of £2! Naturally he didn't take it. I would have offered him at least a fiver!

That is true. But I tend to hang onto credit until they sell something cheap like BlazBlue Chronophantasma Limited Edition for the XB1 that I bought from GAME for £9.99... yet they offer £8 credit atm - doubled and they're already making a loss...
Well, if that's true then it's an amazing deal for sure. I'd trade-in my Wii U copy of One Piece Unlimited World Red but even though I dislike the game I still want to own a physical copy of it.

Do the trade in prices GAME gives on their website reflect those instore? I was going to nip into GAME tomorrow anyway to grab a copy of Fire Emblem Fates with cash yet Cex down the street have Twilight Princess HD in stock for £20 and GAME say they give £24 so I could buy it at Cex, trade in for double credit and get the game £28 cheaper. They will probably limit the max trade in price to the current selling price for the preowned game. Otherwise you could trade in your game and buy it again with credit to spare. Just something to consider before you start thinking about trading lots in.

Their prices are terrible. I went in today and got shot of Uncharted 4 and NBA 2K16 for cash. Their offers were £20 and £8.80, I used the price match with CEX deal and got £28 and £14. Think they'll drop further for tomorrow and if it is only for trade in costs then I haven't bought from them in years, they're overpriced as hell. Does anyone between the ages of 16-50 buy anything in there?

Hmmm.... This is a play to get people into store during the football. All retail suffers during a major football tournament due to everyone watching the games. I don't think I would read too much into it, it's not a sign of the end times ;-)
Other things though do point to hard times ahead for GAME. Unless they get the lending facilities/insurance cover sorted this may have a major impact in quarter 4 - the big Xmas push.
GAME have a cracking ability to ring fence things. Online is separate to instore for example. They have
diversified greatly (Multiply acquisition, Ad Reality stake, this big event they are having this year). All this will cost them a few bob which they won't recoup. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they still have a chunk of market share.
They are going to have a tough time with the Summer drought of games, which will put them further on the back foot. But they will survive Xmas on the promise of they are the only bricks and motor retailer of video games really? It will be early next year they will be in the serious do-do.... Just like last time March/April when things could go over the edge.
GAME will become 'online only' that is my prediction.

It'll be one or the other, GAME aren't daft. They will match CEX or the will double their own price. GAME will not lose out on this deal.
GAME make their money selling pre-owned, not new. Regardless of what the trade in price was or is.... I wouldn't be surprised to offset this deal you will have seen the price of pre-owned games increase. That is how they can offer it.

16 Jun 16#75
Almost certainly. Why would they match CEX, add £1, and then double the total? That would be silly. This offer means they are beating CEX prices (mostly).

Re Game's future: Strikes me that if you go into administration and get rescued, you need to have a plan to get your customer back into the brick-and-mortar stores.
That means price matching your competitors, INCLUDING major online retailers e.g. Amazon. Reality is that, as big a convenience as online shopping has become, I think we do still (to a certain extent) miss face-to-face interaction and a more personal level of service.
The big issue is that Game:
a. Has not taken any steps to increase cash flow- we can see this through the ludicrous price scheme they've got. They're pricing themselves out of business with stubborn, archaic valuations.
b. Is selling pre-owned games at prices for which you can buy the same game new & sealed online. Says to me that they're a rip-off company and provide no value for money.
c. Has not brought customers back in-store at all. If you go on their website, prices online are massively different to their in-store prices. £41 for a black Dualshock 4 control online, yet £49.99 in-store. Again, tells me they're a company that tries to pull a fast one.
d. Does not price match online retailers. Let's consider the following: Game sells GTA V (PS4) for £49.99 new. Amazon sells the same at £32. If I'm not willing to match that price but I'm still selling mine at a stupid price, I'm hardly going to shift any copies. Meanwhile, everyone else is buying at £32. If I price match, people may very well come into store and buy from me (see face-to-face interaction above). Then they see the selection of other console games, maybe preowned games (if we get our act together and stop ripping off the customer) and suddenly "Hey, Game price matched Amazon and have some great preowned prices too!" Word of mouth, people in store, "maybe Game isn't so bad after all". Now sure, if I match £32 I'm technically making a £17 loss on every copy I sell. But I'm also making a £32 income each time too- if I don't price match and my copies aren't selling, I've got a bulk collection of £49.99 not going anywhere, and still on my books.
Unfortunately Game have got it all wrong. They've taken their rescue for granted and haven't learned a damn thing. Sad, but think such a poor business attitude is deserving of what it gets.

I'm currently off to game with about £1200 of trade in, so I am very very happy about this and don't mind if I miss the football.

Hope the company's still trading in a couple of months. Personally I wouldn't want to hang on to a couple of hundred quid's worth of Game credit. You'll probably be fine, but there's a definite risk.
Despite them dropping prices, and the confusion as to what time the offer is on, it's a great deal - if there's something you want to buy from the store (and lets be honest here, we're mainly talking consoles here, as their game prices are usually silly).
Heat added.

16 Jun 16#131
is it double on cash or just trade in?
TheMexicaliKid
16 Jun 161#132
Heat, just got £70 for a load of crap I don't play. Beware they only give you this offer if you ask for it, which is pretty crap for anyone trading today that doesn't know about the offer!

Just been to game bootle, got shot of dark souls 3 and rare replay for £36 and £12 each. Not bad, last night dark souls 3 was £19 trade in so they only dropped it by £1
The guy also said it was a promotion whilst england are in the tournament so if people cant get down today dont despair. He was certain they would do it again, also the 1_5pm thing was scrapped because obviously people would be watching the match instead

Customer service has given you inaccurate information. Reading through the posts here users have already traded in games from a variety of formats.
Furthermore it says on GAME's own Twitter the formats they cover. It sounds like the person in customer service gave you an easy answer rather than the correct one.

I was thinking seriously about trading in One Piece Unlimited World Red (Wii U version) but only £16.00? They've gotta be kidding! That'd be £32.00 in total of trade in but not worth it then, I'd still have to pay £12.99 left (for Zelda Breath of Fire). The thought did cross my mind.
Then I realised it's only 'making money' if you want something expensive from Game now/soon. It's never the brightest idea converting money to store credit for long-term use - plenty of people have lost out in recent years to a variety of retailers hitting financial trouble and ditching all store credit.
TBH I suspect they announced this at short notice, with the promotion running for just 4 hours, in order to make it difficult for people to buy cheap games to trade in. You'd have to be on the ball and pretty organised to make a significant amount.

My local in Cambridge hadn't been briefed on it, no poster's up or anything but luckily one of the colleagues knew, the one that served me had no clue, so i did get it which is the main thing but felt made to look a bit of an idiot, also got told it was originally 2-4 then they changed it as they knew no one would be in. O btw, don't trust the in stock tracker on the game website, had to pay an extra fiver for the mewtwo amiibo card pokken tournament as they didnt have the original yet website said they did.
Still, traded in unwanted stuff(apart from hyrule warriors, but will re-buy for the price i originally payed) got one game i had an interest in and one i really wanted, caught the whole of the England game, via pub then home and it being a victory has equaled a fantastic day, got a bit wet though from the rain haha XD

Just spent 3 hours in my local store trying to get this sorted. Had a bunch of PS4 and a few 360 games to trade in. First time I went in I was told the offer wasn't running as there was nothing on the till to put it through and probably to do with their being a CEX near by. Called customer service and was told to go back to store as they had called through and should be sorted now. Went back in and told that it was only available for teams that were playing in the Euro's so wasn't applicable in Scotland (which the communications they had in store backed up in fairness). Then went on Web Chat with customer service and was told it was U.K. wide and to go back to the store again. Went in with my print outs of the conversation and they accepted that but still couldn't process it through the till. They were on hold with their helpdesk for 90 minutes trying to talk to someone to get a process for it. After that they just did a price override on the till and I ended up getting about £190 which I used to buy an Xbox One. The staff in the store were all really nice, friendly and helpful and had been badly let down by their Marketing and Processes team. No comms at all. Apparently a lot of the Scottish stores are having the same issue.

CEX are giving £31 each for DOOM and Uncharted 4. Did game pricematch and double so you could get £62 for either? Anyone experienced that or just there standard price doubled which is ok.
But this way you could just buy DOOM from them for £29.99 and sell it back and get £62 store credit = a £32 profit.
As I saw some one arguing after they had already sold there Doom and Uncharted that they could have got £62 each but as the transaction was done they said they couldnt match CEX now, if the customer had told them before they would have done that. I was the thinking the cashier was just saying that. But would be good to know.
I got £28 for Ratchet and Clank maybe could have got £40 as store credit if they were matching CEX. You live and learn
TheMexicaliKid

Reading through this thread, I think the general consensus is that Game are bad at communicating their offers!
Or is that the stores have obviously seen the offer but are trying to wriggle out of paying double which will lower their profits per shop

If so what price did u get?

Maybe thats what they say when you try doing it. The cashier guy told a customer after they had traded in that they could do that but they should have asked them before. Which understandably made the customer angry. I dont know why the cashier guy would lie - that just spites a person off.
Did any one manage to get them to double the CEX trade in price?
iffy1234
16 Jun 16#265
The sales guy was saying they could have double CEX price BUT that was after the trade in was complete, as mentioned before they said should have done it before.
Where are the actual T&C of the offer?
I feel this promotion has just made GAME's image as a company an enemy then a friend. A lot of people seem upset.

The game I went to didn't mention the offer at all and when I asked if they were doing any offers, the said they're only doing the trade two games and get an extra £5 credit. Then I loaded the game website and showed the double trade credit offer as advertised and were like "Oh yea there is that offer, we completely forgot, sorry". Its so lame and appalling how workers, people are forced to lie and deceive just to meet store targets.

no complaints on this end though!
also, could somebody point me in the direction of some of this 'game are going under' evidence? this half of the year they made about £18million after tax. yes its a fall on profit but its still a profit?

The offer hasn't done anything to GAME's image. It's probably not helped the image of the general public though, not looking very bright. T&C's weren't complicated, they were simply double trade in value today, can't be used with other offers.

Hi mate, thanks for posting
Is there anyway you can explain why some Game shops didn't know about this offer, surely all stores up and down the country should have received a memo?
Do you think some stores were trying to shy away from this offer and do you know if this deal will happen again during the Football?
Snakeyes646

I went onto live chat before going instore as I didn't wanna be wasting my time, confirmed for me what games formats were included and also that matching against cex depends on how near a cex store was.

tbh, that doesn't sound like lying and deceiving to screw the consumer or meet targets. sounds more like them trying to save face. not unfair to say, it's a little embarrassing to be told of an offer you're unaware of, they're trying to save themselves looking the fool.
game told store managers of this offer yesterday night, it's a spur of the moment thing. plus add in the fact it's not like they've not got plenty to do, it's not ordinary, etc etc. and unfortunatly every company has duds working for them :P
as for meeting targets, this is exists to blow away targets, it's e3 week, what game wants more than anything is preorders, they want more preorders this week than any other. go back through the posts, alot of folks put down orders for xbox slim or ps:vr, gow elite etc this offer is to drive preorders up & it would of.

As others as well as I have pointed out, on numerous occasions, if the app stated your trade in value was (and lets use my own experience as an example) £47.50 when you arrived at the store today, like I did, it was then DOUBLED to £95.
There was no ambiguity in any of my, and others posts, the price on the app will be doubled (in store).
Simple.

Genuinely believe this is a case of some stores innocnetly not knowing, less than 24 hours notice, you get a **** tonne of commes down everyday, today this wasn't the only offer/adjustment of other offer, or new info. it was just another piece. every store relays this info differently some through print outs some though chats etc.
hard for most of you to believe, but for staff this wouldn't of been a big deal, just another offer. It's easy to forget about an offer that lasts a day when you got a tonne of other others and info to know. and it's E3 week, the only week of the year game employees have alot of homework to do.
trust me on this no store would of intentionally not talked about this offer...unless you're purpetually a **** to them :P as mentioned in another post, this genuinely helps us meet targets. stores that weren't so aware will likely get a bolloking tomorrow, cause they wouldn't of done as well as those that pushed the offer.
no idea if they'll do it again tbh.

BUT in all seriousness, I keep reading about GAME being in trouble again. If they're going to do genuinely decent value things like this, they need to advertise it better.
I'm glad they did this actually because if they're drumming up support in getting people GAME credit, I'd like to think that means they're not going under anytime in the near future. Maybe the announcement of the XBONE S and Scorpio has mean't they're going to stick around.

Nothing wrong with expecting a level of common sense from people. Go read the previous 10 or so pages and make a case for the usage of common sense. this is not remotely complicated.

All stores did receive notice explaining this was on - more than likely some managers either missed it or just weren't paying attention. A shame, but i believe it was probably innocent more than anything else. This promotion is good for stores - gets people in, gets preowned stock, gets people credit to spend on stuff in store like deposits. No reason not to do it from a managers perspective.

Super Mario 3D World £24 last night £40 now.
Mario Kart 8 £15 now £28
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire £20 now £36
Luigi's Mansion £13 now £24
Zelda Majora's mask £13.50 now £27
Mario and Luigi Paper Jam Bros £15 now £28
Yes it's a bit sneaky for them to lower their values overnight but they can offer what they want and they are still pretty decent.
Some people just like to complain about anything

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (PS4) - £18 trade in plus 72 points.. So, £36?!
They're rumoured to be in trouble again, and if they're resorting to desperate acts like this all the more reason to be cautious.
Nothing ever seems to materialise
It wouldn't surprise me if there's something in the terms that caps the available credit according to the price that they currently sell for - otherwise this seems very open to abuse!

And from the thread, a newspaper report:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/may/16/game-digital-significant-reduction-credit-insurance-cover
I dont care as they are overpriced and always have been
Just checked, they are giving £19 for dark souls 3 so id take £38 if it was offered, only got 2 cheevos left to get, will take me 30 mins max
I believe the last time they did this there were a few announcements on FB etc, yet there's nothing
EDIT: Each store has sent a tweet out with their terms and conditions for the deal. Some require you to trade them in DURING the england - wales game, most don't though
And I don't think you need any more brownie points
GAME make their money selling pre-owned, not new. Regardless of what the trade in price was or is.... I wouldn't be surprised to offset this deal you will have seen the price of pre-owned games increase. That is how they can offer it.
BTW my local has just tweeted the double trade in and nowhere does it say from 1pm. the terms & conditions small print are the same bar the 1pm - 5pm bit on the one above. So might be worth checking as different stores may have different times.
Rest I agree with...mostly
Prob not but still a reasonable way to ditching hard-to-trade online games
The main account says it is a day and doesn't mention the footy.
Edit - Just talked to the Game_bullring people on Twitter and fortunately the thing on the game app was a false alarm, they're not closing.
(Bath) and they've confirmed it's all day today....
Might pick up gta 5....yes it's £32 but they'll give me £40 for uncharted!
Store "yup"
My most local one only tweeted the whole day one and the website just says one day only, doesn't mention specific times.
Super Mario 3D World £24 last night £20 now.
Mario Kart 8 £15 now £14.
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire £20 now £18
Luigi's Mansion £13 now £12
Zelda Majora's mask £13.50 now £13.50 (stays the same)
Mario and Luigi Paper Jam Bros £15 now £14

This isn't the first time they have done this promo.
I dont understand what is so difficult for people to understand! The trade in price on the APP or on the WEBSITE is say £10... this means the store will give you £20 as trade-in credit.
Its quite simple really.
Super Mario 3D World £24 last night £40 now.
Mario Kart 8 £15 now £28
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire £20 now £36
Luigi's Mansion £13 now £24

You were complaining about them lowering trade in value by £1 yet they are going to give you double that figure... hardly cheeky
Game change their trade in prices every Thursday, so there's nothing untoward going on here.
I'm currently off to game with about £1200 of trade in, so I am very very happy about this and don't mind if I miss the football.
Despite them dropping prices, and the confusion as to what time the offer is on, it's a great deal - if there's something you want to buy from the store (and lets be honest here, we're mainly talking consoles here, as their game prices are usually silly).
Heat added.
I know those **** will try anything not to cough up
*** LMAO quality, you check the site for the T&C and the website keeps crashing!
Edit sorry just read original post, it's all day
The guy also said it was a promotion whilst england are in the tournament so if people cant get down today dont despair. He was certain they would do it again, also the 1_5pm thing was scrapped because obviously people would be watching the match instead
Anyhoo im bored now, cya
Hopefully more people are having success with this. Helpful staff is always good but I know that can vary per branch.
Can you use both credit and/or gift cards on the GAME website?
Also doom 2016 is £30 in game. Cex give 27/31 for it
Now to wait for the NX announcement and hope GAME don't go bust this Christmas.

I was there at 12:10pm today. Got £95 worth of trade-ins.

What I want to know is whether you get an extra £5 on top (possibly doubled?) if two XB1 titles are traded in...
https://twitter.com/GAMEBexleyheath/status/742668669583527936
I didn't push it as I was delighted to be getting double trade-in for games I'd had lying around
It was originally meant to be while the footie was on but got switched to all day, hence the confusion.
Nice friendly staff, chatted about E3, got double the price, left store with gift card, thanks op.
Here it is:-
"The price on the app will be doubled"
I fail to see how this is a poorly written sentence that clearly states the price on the app will be doubled?
Not too bad.
I could rebuy those and turn a profit (if I wanted)...
Awesome deal
My only regret is that I sold Fallout for £14 a few days ago. I'm thinking that would have been another £20+
Then I realised it's only 'making money' if you want something expensive from Game now/soon.
Will go perfectly for E3 announcements
Still, traded in unwanted stuff(apart from hyrule warriors, but will re-buy for the price i originally payed) got one game i had an interest in and one i really wanted, caught the whole of the England game, via pub then home and it being a victory has equaled a fantastic day, got a bit wet though from the rain haha XD
My son was looking to trade-in an unopened PS4 Ratchet & Clank game yesterday but offered only £14. He's soooo glad he didn't accept - got £28 today!!
How Game are still trading I don't know. I suspect the only people shopping their these days are unsuspecting parents that don't know any better.
Almost got doom on PC as it was £28, will have a think and if I'm still unsure just pre-order something
Or is that the stores have obviously seen the offer but are trying to wriggle out of paying double which will lower their profits per shop
Either way I think this has been very poorly dealt with and communicated badly, I'm glad though most of you have made some extra cash  well done everyone
i'd rather spend more money elsewhere than step foot in those CEX chav centres.
If so what price did u get?
Thanks
Did any one manage to get them to double the CEX trade in price?
