I've searched on hotukdeals and cant find it posted at this price.
Thinking about getting back into biking for the summer, so found this after searching around for a bit. Seams good for the price, but I'm not a bike expert. Also this is a road bike, not a mountain bike, so no suspension.

The wheels will be a standard 700mm, just a rounded up conversion to inches. Frame size seems small to claim it would fit a 33 inch inside leg, unless it's a very unusual geometry.
Weight is a ridiculous obsession, and should only be an issue if you live in a flat. 12kg isn't heavy .
Perfectly good bike to commute, get about in and get fit on. The extra couple of kgs on the bike will help you lose them off your gut !

Cheap for a branded road bike, but this is very basic and at 12kg heavy for a road bike. Components probably very basic. It's also a very small frame size 18.5 inch equals 47cm which is close to child/adolescent size for road bike frame. 28 inch wheels are also not standard on a road bike (but are on some hybrids) which are usually 700cm. Bit of an oddity really. If you are small enough it might be okay for short flattish commutes or as a runaround probably not much more.

The 21 inch frame version is the same price. Typically for Argos though it says 22 inch in the description. Very basic bike but ok as a starter. You won't get any half decent bike at Argos.

A 12kg bike will be heavy to someone who rides a 5kg Canyon Ultimate..horses for courses.

As a random one to check, do take a look at bikebargains.co.uk, it's perhaps a competing "deals" site so won't go down so well but it gives some very good deals (though generally from the £250 and up kind of range, mostly around the 700-1400 mark).
This is a perfectly fine bike for someone thinking about a bit of fitness and/or commuting.

The problem with cheap bikes is that when something breaks it's not worth repairing. It might be fine but be prepared to buy a new one again in 2 years. 2nd hand is obviously the best route but the road bike bargains are to be found in the winter.

You are well named. I have never seen a good 2nd hand deal as invariably the seller lies about the cost (stating ridiculous rrp and more ) and the usage (I did one sponsored 10 miles etc etc ). This bike has a 5 YEAR GUARANTEE, your Gumtree bike will have 5 minutes. The idea that it won't be fixable is laughable. Standard components , a few punctures a year is all you'd have to worry about.
Bought one even though i have two decent £800+ mountain bikes. For the money this is outstanding. The brakes do look cheap ie non cartridge, but for sti and an alu frame you would be hard to find similar for anything twice this price. A few quick upgrades ie tyres and mudguards this would be a great commuter. My wife is gonna be p*$$ed tho!

At an age where my joints don't let me run as often as i'd like, been thinking of getting a bike for rest days. Was a bit annoyed at missing the triban deal a few days ago, how does this compare?
Tempted by this just to give it a go, I live in a rural area, the roads are a disaster of pot-holes so I was thinking something gravel or cyclocross but, they start at 4oo for a no-name, there's a video of this on yt that suggests sturdier wheels could be fitted, could they? Anyone know how the 21 would fit a medium built 5'10" guy/

I have a Triban 3 which I bought for £300 and believe the spec of this bike stands up better in value for money stakes.
Given the £150 price tag , Shimano STI 16 speed gears and lightweight frame it's a superb deal.
The Triban is 1.5 kg lighter than DBR due to the carbon fork.
The Triban has a triple drive train - 3 x 8 vs DBR - 2 x 8 , but was rarely used by this cyclist ( in fact, I replaced it with a double).
Ride quality, I cannot say as I haven't received the DBR yet and I have no way of assessing the quality of the wheels or brakes either ( the Triban wheels and brakes are not that great ). The Triban is a fast but bumpy ride.
The bike is the same weight as my Carrera Zelos (which cost me £250 and the Zelos is generally lower specced ) .
In summary, it is half the price of the Triban, does not have carbon fork but is only 1.5kg lighter and has Shimano parts as standard. This is an unbeatable value for a Shimano equipped, 12 kg entry level road bike.

triban has carbon forks ( if red ) and is slightly lighter. Think it has 24 gears . And you can't buy it anymore.

Was looking to spend £200-300 on a bike to replace hubby's mountain bike that he uses for a short (2 miles either direction), hill-less commute and seen this deal - would this be suitable and good value for money for that sort of journey? Any help would be appreciated as I'm clueless in this subject area!

Good spec for the money, I assume it has the old shimano 2300 gears (with thumbshifters) rather than the newer claris. It looks comparable to the original Triban 3 so for the money it looks great. I'd be surprsed if it does weigh quite as much as 12kg, the Triban 3 was about 10.5kg. If you are looking to lose weight by cycling then I wouldn't get too hung up on bike weight, I've got back into cycling this year and gone from 83kg to 74kg in 10 months doing around 50-60 miles a week.. I've told myself I'll get a nice light one once I drop below 70kg, but I'll try to pick up a bargain at the end of the summer. I have a triban 3 and that comes in at about 12kg with mudguards, saddle bag, mtb pedals and other gubbins. The Triban 3 is great but now that I am getting faster and spending more time in the drops, I find the thumbshifters and the fairly long throw to change up a little annoying though, so even Claris would be a good step up.

Mines just arrived and I have unpacked it.
You get a basic spanner and an Allen key, so enough for a careful basic build.
However, I would recommend using a torque wrench to avoid over-tightening the bolts.
There are plenty of good videos on YouTube to teach yourself bike assembly and maintenance.
All appears to be of good quality. Quando quick release hubs font and rear.
A nicely finished frame etc.
I really think this should be a lot hotter. Both frame sizes are still available for home delivery. I only paid £124.99 as I had a £15 promotional voucher with my Argos card and used £10 of Nectar points. Looking at the online bike suppliers just the STI shifters sell for over £80!
