I had a look at this on the weekend, trying to find cheap ink cartridge and could not do so, so put me off buying it. Any link to cheap ink cartridges for this particular model?

Why do you buy cartridges at all? Simply buy the refill ink bottle. I've had a similar Canon pixma (if not the same) for the last 4 years. I have been using the refill kit which I bought from Amazon for around £7ish and it has lasted me all this time, still got plenty left.

I have this printer. It broke (paper feed issue) after 1 scan and 3 pages printed within 2 weeks. even for £20, not worth the money in my opinion

A ordered a different Canon model yesterday http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/canon-pixma-mg3650-all-in-one-printer-a26uf because it seemed like a good deal, but a significant downside with Canons generally is that they don't have any ink cost management options like HP's instant ink. They still charge loads of money for simple cartridges.

Just a warning if you want to use the scan functionality. MF Toolbox doesn't work on Windows 10 (see http://community.usa.canon.com for Canon's inability/unwillingness to fix it.)
