Ultimate edition of the action adventure from director Zack Snyder, featuring 30 minutes of additional footage. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill star as the eponymous superheroes in this sequel which follows on from the events in 'Man of Steel' (2013). Concerned that Superman (Cavill)'s powers may get out of hand if he isn't kept under control, vigilante Batman (Affleck) leaves Gotham City for Metropolis where the two heroes find themselves in a head-to-head battle. Meanwhile, a terrifying evil threatens the safety of the human race. Will Batman and Superman be able to defeat their common enemy and save the day? The film also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Released: 01/08/2016
3D version also available @ £16.78 and 4K @ £19.98.
Best pre-order price for this as of yet.
So as you probably know this film hasn't exactly been given the best endorsement by critics. However some claim to have seen the Ultimate Edition and it being an improvement over the theatrical release of the film. Which is good news in my books.

I've never had a problem with downbeat elements in movies, like you say TDK had some deeply upsetting scenes. But in context they - sort of - worked in Nolan's idea of the Batman universe.
{SPOILERS}
BvS, to me, was so intentionally brutal and despairing that it made it even more difficult to care about the slender story. Add in the pointless subplots, dubious artistic choices (that odd title card, the narration which lasted all of one scene, the leaden palette), shameless plugging of future JL movies and it just became terrifically disappointing.

Honestly that's the best idea I've heard as to how to save this "franchise".

22 Jun 16#54
I don't remember The Dark Knight getting this much backlash for being downbeat as ****. Bruce's childhood friend dies, the guy she loves turns evil and is killed, the whole scenario at the end with Two face holding Gordon's kid at gunpoint and then batman taking the fall for it all. It's pretty downbeat but it's one of the best films ever IMO.
I can see the disjointed complaints but alot of films have tonal shifts. Hell Civil War is pretty serious up till the big airport fight where it turns funny and everyone's spouting out one liners. Mainly due to Ant Man and Spiderman's presence. Both great films idk.

There's a good superhero movie in BvS somewhere, shame they felt the need to cram so much into it. Might try and do a fan re edit as a little project as there are elements of it I liked, and I'm a fan of MoS despite its flaws.
FWIW I didn't think all that much to Civil War either, Winter Solder was much better IMO, but at least CW was coherent.

Is that how much I'm going to get paid to see an even longer version of this trash? I saw this day one at the cinema, and walked out extremely **** off, you gonna have to pay me to watch it again. Agreed, the film was superb. I think most people were expecting an Iron Man / Deadpool type movie and therefore were disappointed. The film is setting the stage for Justice League and if you watch it with this in mind then the parts which don't make much sense now (i.e. Batmans dreams).. they will do later.

Classic film. They could have just made a DC version of the Avengers but instead they went the Dark Knight route. It needs more elaboration in places but that's supposed to be down to excessive cutting and rectified in the new release

22 Jun 161#33
I think you just explained why most people dislike the movie so much. Most people have seen the avengers and other marvel movies which are light-hearted action movies. That's what they're expecting now when they see superhero movies so if it's different, they don't rate it at all. I, too, enjoy watching them but prefer the darker, grittier movies. It's DC vs Marvel. For all those hating on this movie, I wouldn't recommend watching the Killing Joke.

But it was about Batman and Superman, why bother having wonder woman, aquaman, etc in it at all? In my opinion this was just filler that distracted from the very poor story in the first place. Too much in a rush to catch up to Marvel and have inter-connected movies for the sake of it... I'm not against linking up super heroes if there's a decent enough reason for it other than the obvious cash grab they're looking for.

I enjoyed the film, it suffered with the following way way way to much was shown online, batman should never never be using a gun don't care about frank millers version. not enough was shown of wonder woman or aqua man, cyborg and the flash....even so I enjoyed the film

22 Jun 162#22
I really, really wanted to like it... but there was just too much shoved in, too much trying to build an entire cinematic universe instead of concentrating on one story. When I came out it was really like I'd just had an assault to the senses for 2 hours plus... and I didn't feel like it had been a fun experience... the tone was so serious, downbeat, angry... it's a superhero movie - I want at least a little bit of humour or brevity in it!

If there's a 5hr version similar to the Watchmen Ultimate cut it may actually improve the film. As it stands an extra half hour would probably be just to add in the extra franchise opportunity they couldn't pack in at the cinema, hence Wonder Woman on the cover
