This or the viewsonic with freesync?

Just what I was thinking. Free Doom (but will I play it?) or Freesync (which ties me to AMD video cards for the forseeable future). Difficult choice.

You don't have to use free sync, I would personally go for view sonic its 75Hz and cheaper

Good monitor - bought one for my gaming laptop for when i'm at the mistresses house  Only need 1080p for that and if you read the reviews is very good for the money.
Also, can confirm, games do work on it.

How is it for dark scenes? I criminally use a LG ultrawide to game on as it's the only monitor I have and navigating a game in dark scenes is awful. If this is OK for that I'll definitely buy

Only played Doom and Overwatch on this monitor and didn't have any issues with blacks. I've done all the calibration stuff for gamma and contrast and they all seem to show decent black/white detail. I think an IPS panel would probably be better for black depth, but for response times and lag TN panels are usually better.

Anyone who buys this monitor and has no need for Doom, I'll gladly take it off your hands

18 Jun 16#28
Only cheap ones.
Quality IPS panels are now in the range of TN panels for response times, but cost more.
The 1ms claim on this is nonsense though. The panel is a very basic TN panel running at 60Hz, with overdrive applied.
I'm not knocking it - it's fine for the price. But this is as suited to office work as much as it is for 'gaming'. It's a bog standard 1080p, 60Hz, TN panel for a reasonable price. Nothing more.

Thanks for posting, DealDog.
I find myself using an ancient 17" monitor I found in the loft as my 22" monitor went tits up this morning, but later this week I'll be upgrading to this. (Nice to get Doom thrown in, too!)
Heat added, natch.

I bought it to play Doom..... On my 120hz monitor, this Asus would make an ideal third monitor for web pages etc!
Anyone know how long it takes to get the Doom code from amazon? My monitor is being delivered today but so far there's been no email code..
scottwinfield1
20 Jun 16#32
Its nothing to do with Amazon its an ASUS promotion. They even say if you send the monitor back for no reason they will bill you £59.99 for the DOOM game. It said it somewhere on the promotion page. ASUS are the ones that send the code I think.
paulst
20 Jun 16#33
Thanks, so do you have to register it at Asus then or do Amazon pass on your details?
dangel
20 Jun 162#34
Amazon will email you a benefit confirmation email with a code - you then go to the ASUS site, register, put all your details in and get a game code.

I've had two of these monitors delivered earlier today - no sign of a code yet though.
I'm stuck on the 'enter your ASUS code' section with no code to enter..
