Been on sale a few times recently but this is probably the cheapest so far for the 8GB version.

The description states that the resolution is 1920 x 1080 but it is actually 2560 x 1440 so expect a better picture but worse battery life.

It also comes with the Asus stylus pen and usb 3.0 dock.

I have the 4gb and it came with stylus so mabey the same with this. I got my 4gb for £225 some weeks back but the 8Gb seems to be reducing more and more in last few weeks.

Nice, I have been watching this for a while myself but have been put off by the battery life in reviews. Pulled the trigger today though.

Dell venue 11 pro, 7140 model. It is more expensive though even on the outlet, you'll end up paying about 450 pounds for the tablet and keyboard if you want to match the 8GB ram and 5y71 processor.

*edit* on the other hand I have the previous gen model and with about 60Wh of battery attached it can last about 12 hours on battery.

Really tempted with this to replace my Linx 10 but the battery life is my main concern. How are those who have one finding it?

24 Jun 16 #17
Do they come with the keyboard on the outlet site?
CampGareth
24 Jun 16 1 #18
No they do not. I bought the tablet on the outlet, it didn't come with the keyboard. I then went on ebay and bought the... I think it's the 'type' keyboard not the 'travel' keyboard (one is thicker and has a battery). Incidentally I bought a french one for £50 because the UK one costs £100 and it doesn't matter functionally, just changes what's painted on the keys.

No the Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 doesn't come with the mobile keyboard ( with 2nd battery ) however you can buy the keyboard for around £110

Very good looking very good specs etc on paper this device superb but how in real life

what I found on youtube :
1 That all 2 in one tablets are to heavy for using them as tablets
Plus they not same experience as laptops as keyboard will be small screen size as well , flimsy etc.... Everything so small and not comfortable for work . They ok little type take as movie player surf web etc But they will not replace laptop say mac book pro 13.3 So my question why you want spend money 350 if you can save and get quality tools for your job
2 Windows it is not same experience as touch orientated Ipad or android

For me I need 2 separate but NOT 2 in one
laptop is macbook pro 13.3
Tablet is Galaxy S2 9.7

yes they cost money + 1000 pound in total but you have tools / PC for 3-4 Years so if you divide in to 4 years it does not look so bad or prefer to buy each year new 2 in 1 PC ?
Sp0oner
24 Jun 16 #21
Thanks for confirming, won't be getting one then as the extra cost of the keyboard makes it too expensive for what it is.
millar5002
24 Jun 16 #22
That depends on the individual and what their job is. For me personally being able to develop and test touch based mobile games on the same device will come in handy. For people like me that already have a laptop and a tablet the T300 seems to fit nicely in between but saying that my tablet is a samsung note 12.2 so Im already used to the size.

How sure that the screen is 2560x1440 rather than the advertised 1920x1080? Link leads to model number T300CHI-FH096H which is the 1920x1080. Model number for the 2560x1440 version is i think T300CHI-FH011H. Can anyone who has received confirm?

Keyboard lasts about 80 hours or so on one charge. Only charged mine once since I bought the Very deal. It's a nice laptop but screen resolution not quite as sharp as my miix 3 which has 1920 x 1200 resolution.
millar5002
24 Jun 16 2 #31
I had mine delivered this morning. Under Display settings the recommended resolution is 2560 x 1440. Before I even checked the display settings I could tell that it was higher than 1080. It looks similar to my Note 12.2 (2560 x 1600)

25 Jun 16 #35
How to you find windows under that resolution; do you need to change the font size or any scaling to make it easily readable?
millar5002
25 Jun 16 #36
Windows adjusted the scaling itself and I have found no reason to change the settings myself so far. Everything is crisp and readable. I have not had any eye strain.
Its also very easy to use when using just the touchscreen in desktop mode even with my big hands.
The only problem I have found so far is Photoshops ui is to small. Its usable but I would imagine it causing eyestrain over prolonged use without lowering the resolution.
kworke
25 Jun 16 #37
There's a setting in current versions of Photoshop to scale the UI. I used it when trying Surface Pro, don't have Photoshop in front of me to check where. General Windows UI in settings app probably best at 200% at this high res like Surface Pro.
millar5002
25 Jun 16 #38
Nice. I'm guessing it will be under... Edit > Preferences > Interface.
I had already changed the ui font size, made little difference. Looks like you can fix it in older versions by making changes to the registry.

For those people who have purchased this laptop. Are any of you going to get a screen protector?
I've been looking around for a while and decided to order one today. For my budget this fits. I couldn't afford my first choice.

29 Jun 16 #40
Cheers OP. Ordered one last night so should arrive today.

I'm used to reasonably powerful gaming desktops so this'll be my first experience with the Core M processors. I find Kaspersky's internet security suite a bit of a resource hog on my main PC so thinking it might be an idea to try something else on the T300 Chi. Does anyone have any recommendations for something that not only works well but also has fairly low cpu usage?

I use Avast on mine.
JF53
30 Jun 16 1 #43
Thanks but by the time I read this I'd already installed a 30 day trial of Bitdefender. It's early days but it doesn't seem to hamper performance at all. Will keep Avast in mind if if doesn't work out though so appreciate the suggestion!

For the money I'm really very impressed with just how smoothly this thing runs and the overall build quality.

Based on my short time using I thought I'd post some initial impressions in case it helps anyone considering one.

The good

- excellent high PPI (2560x1440) IPS display with good colours and excellent brightness levels (with auto brightness disabled)

- really nice build quality with quite a premium look and feel

- very snappy performance. No obvious lag in 'general' usage (I'm sure video editing, non-casual games etc. would be a killer though)

- decent amount of RAM

- fan-less operation. No noise or heat being pumped out or vents to worry about

- speakers have decent volume levels & reasonable 'width' (but on the downside are bass shy & quite tinny)

- reasonably good touch pen / stylus included

- responsive touch screen

- very usable keyboard

- 8gb RAM

- very flexible - use as a standalone tablet, laptop, have the screen turned round 180 degrees on the dock (great for films) or even as a 'mini desktop' pc with the tablet on a stand and the keyboard separate

Not so good:

- trackpad a bit iffy

- keyboard dock connects via bluetooth and needs charged seperately

- some backlight bleed (not excessive though)

- no full sized USB ports (but a dongle with 2 USB ports is supplied)

- limited SSD capacity with no upgrade options (although you can put in a micro SD card)

- keyboard dock is very heavy. Likely to compensate for the top heavy nature of the tablet section

- the aspect ratio isn't great for tablet use. Very tall and narrow in portrait mode

- finger print magnet!!

- The bottom right of the back of the T300 gets very toasty at times where the CPU is. Not something you'll notice when docked.

- would prefer more tilt when docked. It's sufficient for desktop use but when I have it on my lap I'd like to be able to tilt the screen back a few degrees more for a better viewing angle / seating position

That said for the price I'm more than happy to live with the niggles mentioned and think it's fantastic for the money. But if I was paying the original RRP (£899 I think? Edit: reviews suggest $899 so presumably a bit less in GBP £) I'd perhaps be less forgiving of a few of them.

But when you compares this to some budget laptops around the same price with their third rate build quality, low res screens and sluggish performance it is very hard to fault this.
Smartguy1
30 Jun 16 #44
Thanks but by the time I read this I'd already installed a 30 day trial of Bitdefender. It's early days but it doesn't seem to hamper performance at all. Will keep Avast in mind if if doesn't work out though so appreciate the suggestion!

I will bear Bitdefender in mind also. I haven't heard of it. Nice review by the way. I agree with all the pros apart from mine has the 1920 x 1080 and I would say, its nice but perhaps just not quite as nice as my Lenovo Miix 3 when sat on my lap. Mine also has only 4gb ram but seems to cope ok so far with what I do with it.

On your not so good items I agree the mouse is a bit hit and miss for right click on mine. 80 hours between charging though so not too bad. No backlight bleed on mine at all. No full sized usb ports is a PITA. What were Asus thinking. On mine the little hub adapter is so tight I have to force my usb stick in. I thought I was going to break it so in the end I bought a couple of samsung note 3 otg leads for less than a couple of quid a piece. I was a bit disappointed with the aspect ratio, a bit too widescreen for me and it's spent all is life as a laptop and not a tablet which is a shame. Perhaps I should buy a case specific for tablet use and ditch the keyboard for primary use. Not noticed the heat but see why. Yes more tilt could be useful.

Only other point is I find the magnets quite powerful and sometimes difficult to separate the tablet from the keyboard. One last thing is it's quite difficult to prise the two apart when closed.

Out of everything my biggest gripe has to be the lack of a full sized usb port but have this sorted now with the otg adapters for my most popular peripherals. I tried the capacitive pen couldn't get used to it and put it back in its box! I think I prefer the cheaper ones lol. The screen size looks a little odd compared with my 10.1" but for the money I paid (£229.99) it is just amazing. Build quality is very good. I think the rrp on mine was £699. We wouldn't have been doing a deal at that.

Only thing I need to do on mine is to find out how I can boot from usb so I can install a fresh install of windows 10. There is no facility to boot from usb in the bios.

Can't you do a 'reset this pc' once windows 10 is installed - remove everything option or is this not the same thing?
Smartguy1
1 Jul 16 1 #47
Yes it was the Very deal. £249.99 + £3.99 postage less £22.99 credit by Very which was for all laptops at £249.99 or over. Cracking deal and surprised I didn't miss it. I actually ordered it in error as I was trying to get a 20% off code to work and hit the wrong button. I tried to cancel it immediately and couldn't. In the end I decided to keep it and sell my Miix 3. Only thing is 2 months have gone by and I still got the Miix 3. I hate selling on ebay so looking for a buyer locally. The Miix is mint.
Smartguy1
1 Jul 16 1 #48
Not the same thing according to the experts on here. A fresh install should be as Microsoft intended it to be and not the one provided by the computer manufacturer and clicking delete all the existing partitions in the install process. You don't get this option when doing a reset, it just doesn't install your original files. I done a reset on mine and it still stores all the Asus files in the windows old folder. It probably doesn't make too much difference but I am not qualified enough to say. I would prefer a fresh install although the one provided by Asus seemed whizzy enough. I have some issues with mine at the minute but I did make a back of of the one the t300 shipped with so may just revert it back. I can't understand why there is no option to boot from usb on this and googling hasn't helped so far. The only thing I haven't tried is disabling all available boot options to see if it will boot from usb then but a bit reluctant to try that as accessing the bios via volume up and power is a bit hit and miss so may invest in a wired keyboard for it.

Would this run football manager 2016 on reasonable setting? Assuming 3D match engine would not run on this? Thanks
JF53
4 Jul 16 #51
Not too sure. Been many years since I last played FM but remember it needing quite a beefy CPU. Particularly if you like to run lots of leagues.

I see there's a demo on Steam though so can download it and give it a try later if you like? Give me an idea of how many leagues you'd be running and I can set it up accordingly. Can also use FRAPS to see how the 3D engine runs in games.

---

I've installed a few of my (less demanding) Steam games onto the Asus and very much enjoying gaming on this. Primarily with an Xbox One wireless controller although some, like Quell, have excellent touch support.

Whilst it's never going to play AAA titles there are plenty of great indie games etc. that will work just fine. And they look great on the T300 Chi's screen and run very smoothly. In some cases they need a drop in resolution or a few graphical tweaks to get good framerate (I usually aim for a solid 60) but overall I'm quite impressed and look forward to playing a few gems that I'd likely not have got round to playing on my main rig!

I'm not usually keen on dropping resolution but have to say the T300 Chi does a good job of keeping the display looking crisp and vibrant, so not finding it much of a compromise.

So far have tried the following:

- Not a Hero
- Rayman Legends*
- Toybox Turbos*
- Pacman CE DX+
-Spelunky
- One Finger Death Punch
- Hitman GO
- Quell
- Plants vs Zombies
- Geometry Wars 3*
- The Binding of Isaac Rebirth
- Joe Danger* (nb. display issues unless you set scaling to 100% via the Control Panel. Also best to lock to 30fps via the graphics options)

(* game needs either a drop in resolution or graphics settings to maintain a solid 60fps)

I've briefly tried Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate and early impressions are that a solid 30fps should be possible with some tweaks.

Have another 20 or so installed so will add them to the list as / when I get a chance to try them. If anyone wants anything in particular tested just let me know and if I have it I'll give it a go

If anyone is looking for a cheap case / sleeve for these then go along to your local Currys and see if they have a Sandstrom 11.6" case as it fits. I bought one today and it fits like a glove. Best bit though it was on offer at £3.97. One left in Hull. It's the same as the link below but 11.6". No room for a charger but it does have an outside pocket were a stylus or lead will fit.
