cold do not buy any latop for 1 month, amd polaris and nvidia pascal laptop gpus are on par with desktop power. this 960m cant run anything good

The AMD GPU refresh in laptops are rebrands, not Polaris, so you will have to wait till next year probably. Also only the high end Pascal laptop cards have been teased so far, and they will obviously occupy the £1000+ price range. So unless you're willing to wait 1 year+ for mid range mobile Polaris/Pascal GPU's the 960m is still perfectly fine.

I agree with your point about being future proof. However, when the new GPU's come out, I doubt the cost will be £800. For me, HOT.

There's great upside to the new GPUs but lets be clear, laptop GPUs are not and will not be on par with desktops. And new mobile GPUs are speculation anyways and you're looking at waiting a few months and then steep prices.
Back to this laptop, I bought it a few months ago. £800 is fair but the Dell laptop should be considered too which is cheaper.
960M is midrange-ish but you're not getting better at this price point. If you want to go a step up, you need to ideally spend over 1k.

Pros:
-Powerful (work)
-Portable enough
-Good looking
-Quiet during normal use
-Webcam+mic
-Easy upgradable ram
Cons
-Thick
-On the heavy side
-All plastic, top cover feels weak
-Linux is pain in ass to install
-Keyboard letters not very visible when LED is off.

When I say powerful, I mean relative to it being a laptop that I carry around with me for work. I don't use it for gaming.
But you guys should really consider the Dell 15-7559 which is around £635, add a £50 m.2 and it's pretty much the same spec. My mate has that laptop and whilst it doesn't look as cool, it's equally as good in terms of performance and also thinner and lighter since there's no DVD Drive.

Is it worth getting a laptop with 970m at the moment (14 inch , Msi gs40) or does one wait for the new cards

I have a similar msi lappy (not sure of the serial (one with the 4K screen)it'same gfx card and i7 .Runs everything I throw at it ie. Arma3 and Exile mods, Star Citizen Far Cry4 all in 1080p high to ultra and Total Warhammer in 4K on high settings which is unecessary ...but nice. I think it's all I need and more at the moment.

The GS40 is awesome, I have one and would recommend. It will be a while before the new laptop gpu's come out, so it just depends on how soon you need/want a gaming laptop. GS40 runs everything i've tried at high/ultra with usually a steady 60fps (Fallout 4, Tomb Raider etc) @1080p. Haven't tried doom yet but that's supposed to be pretty decent on a 970m with an i7 6700 giving around 50fps on high @ 1080p. The GS40 is also really light, thin, has usb c with full thunderbolt 3 (think external gpu enclosures!) and a 5-6hr battery life. The only issue is the speakers, they are awful! They are also pretty cheap at the mo, i got mine for just over 1k i think..

Although after having checked the prices, it's more like £60-£75 for 250 or 256GB, I like the Samsung Evo 850 m.2 SSDs but the Sandisk are cheaper.
m.2 SSDs are basically the smaller stick types SSDs, that Dell laptop has the ability to take one.
You simply unscrew the bottom panel, pop the ssd in and screw it back.

Just be aware that ASUS laptop support is terrible. Getting even the most basic replacement parts (a keyboard for example) is near impossible.
I had one for 8 months and a key broke on the keyboard. It got returned to the retailer to be sent to ASUS for repairs. A month later they had no idea what was happening as ASUS were so bad at communicating.
Another few weeks and they actually issued a refund as it still wasn't resolved.

The sound card works fine through headphones ....but I agree ,it's paltry from the unit itself .I'm happy with my first delve into (msi) gaming's laptops ..things can only get better and cheaper moving forward

Thanks for the advice. Ordered once from Amazon for 1200 as couldn't longer. Also got the 3 year Msi warranty. Is the warranty good? Do they cover and replace if any issues?

I know a couple of people that have used MSI warranties without problems but i've never had to use it myself.

Is it DDR4 or DDR3 RAM? It says one thing in the top and DDR3 in the bottom? What about the screen, is it mate, glossy? IPS or TN? Get conflicting info from different places...
