Decent spec tablet for sub £70 If you want something a little larger than the norm 7/8" tablets.
Nice build quality with metallic frame and leather effect back cover.
Listing states it also comes with a free Asus case and is also compatible with optional Audio Dock, ZenPad Clutch, ZenPad 10 TriCover, and Z Stylus accessories.

Currently selling on offer at £130 from Argos on high street.

Listing doesn't state it but it will support an SDCard up to 128Gb

I've bought half a dozen or so refurb tablets from Argos ebay store and never had an issue.

16Gb version also available here

Thanks for posting comparison, appreciated.

got both and the lenovo A10 is by far the better tablet. it might have only 1gb of ram but it beats the zenpad in just about every way. screen is clearer and more vivid with deeper colours. General browsing on the web and youtube us significantly quicker on the Lenovo. unfortunately the zenpad is slow in comparison.

Thinking of sending ours back, shame really cos its like new. Thinking of getting the 16gb. I know it's only 8gb so have installed a 32gb card. Also installed app manager 3, moved most apps to sd card but still very low on memory and getting the insufficient storage message. Anybody have any other fixes?

Has anyone who bought and received their tablet tried going into power off...? I accidentally tapped on Power Off when I tried to reboot and now it is not responding at all... Tried plugging it into charger (both the one that came with the box and other functional ones at home), screen doesn't even come on.

Does anyone know if I still have to pay for the return postage in this case...?!

Sending back the 8gb and buying the 16gb. Ran out of space pretty much instantly with "standard" apps and no games and moving most apps to sd card. That said my bad. Other than that it's a cracking cheap tablet and the built in UI is pretty smooth.

I have one. good tablet. as with many other cheap tablets wifi is a little hit and miss and often doesn't reconnect after waking from sleep (I just use a wifi on/off widget on homescreen as a wrokaround)

good sound quality though and for day to day use a decent enough tablet.

Please can anyone with one of tehse say for absolute certain whether it has GPS?

The Z300C datasheet on the Asus website says that it does, but this is a Z300CX and maybe the "X" stands for "we took away the GPS"....

Just tried new batman trailer (would vote cold).

Noticeable difference.. Ipad much deeper and richer, almost like it's got a subwoofer built in.

Azus, perfectly listenable, with the volume up, quite harsh and tinny at the high end, lack of depth of Base at the low end. I'd say the tinnyness would be more of an issue.

Wouldn't complain at the price. Pound for pound Wouldn't say the ipad is 4x better!

Putting Kodi on it was a bit of a pain, kept dropping wifi for some reason even though showing good connection, once on it was clunky for a while but once all updates went through its behaving a bit better with a Hyper TT build.
As a tablet it's a bit slow overall, battery drain is just about reasonable but I am concerned with its wifi connection which just seems so flaky.

Hi, if you compare the built in speakers of the iPad Air to the speakers of this tablet when watching let's say a new action trailer on YouTube..

How does the speakers compare to the iPad?

Mine just arrived on the basis of this deal thanks

Condition: box a bit tatty, but tablet, case and charger mint.

The actual device.. (To be fair I have a MotoX pure phone and Ipad air as reference, not really in the same league in terms of tech.. but also cost)

Screen: not bad, not great, from a distance. The colour is vibrant, but the resolution to my eye makes it a poor reader, text a bit too fuzzy to be pleasant. Iplayer is perfectly watchable but being picky it has a slight lack of crispness and odd blur a bit like watching an early plasma TV.

Sound: fine to my ear, but if I want to listen to music the ear phones go in. Worked flawlessly with chromecast audio.

Speed: feels quite clunky in comparison to newer items but usable, dumped the stock launcher (super easy from Google play) deleted most the Asus apps and put on SwiftKey keyboard makes a big difference. Workable but again. Not frustratingly slow, but a little lagging at times, not tried any games.

Overall. External finish is really quite good, it slightly raises expectations of the overall performance and experience. Its no Ipad, if I paid 120 I'd feel quite disappointed compared to what else is out there at 70 I feel quite happy I've bagged a bargain.

Hope it helps. :man:

Really low performance comparing previous generation MemoPad I own. Even with 2GB memory and better processor. Laggy, problems starting up, weights more.

You can find better options for sure.

Might be the intel processor is not optimized yet for android.

Has anyone gone through some majour issues? How smooth is it?
My ZenPad 10 has had a few problems. Keeps going into standby for no reason, on test at moment after a factory reset. Font colour and bold changed somehow but could not change it back another factory reset. The tech support is not very good factory reset is their solution.
I have had this 2 months and I am on my third factory reset, when I had an Amazon kindle probs it was replaced without question, as you can guess I won't be buying an ASUS product ever again.

Had this delivered today. The ASUS model naming conventions are a nightmare to wade through. Argos delivered a Z300CT. First impressions are good - apart from the ASUS logo splashed on the front right near the viewing bezel. Tablet has a 'heft' to it. Installing was simple. Updating straightforward. Browsing was fast after the update and video playback was good. The screen was also very nice for a budget model at that resolution. Text however looks jaggy and unaliased. I've decided to send mine back because the cameras are absolutely **** - especially and bizarrely the 0.3mp shooter they decided to put on the front. Skype would be one of the main uses and this is actually unusable to the point of ridiculous. Apparently what camera spec you get depends on what country you live in for this model!

Don't scoff at 1200x800 when it is adequate for nearly all applications. Fact : 14" monitor that was used with Windows XP, had a VGA resolution, 640x480, and was perfectly satisfactory for all computing needs for multimedia and graphics and continues to be effective. Lower resolution means lower number of pixels to light up unnecessarily and means lower powered. This resolution of 1200 X 800 (~149 ppi pixel density) is typically the resolution used for newspaper and magazines. Moreover for budget laptops they are mostly still sold at this resolution 1080x768 or slighly more for up to 15" screen.

There is no reduced functionality as this particular app takes advantage of a feature called Linux symlinking. (As some of you guys will already know, just like MacOS, the AndroidOS is largely based on Linux.) But I'd agree with you that rooting is not everyone's cup of tea. :disappointed:

98% of the apps function without a hitch when symlinked. I have the remaining 2%, mainly Google apps, installed on the device's internal storage. I have just 1 app that won't work on a rooted device and that is Nowtv. For that app, I use my £20 Alcatel Android phone (not rooted) in combination w/ Chromecast.

I have 3,094 apps symlinked, 57 in internal storage. I still have over 2gb empty space left out of the device's meagre 8gb, which is plenty to ensure the apps run smoothly.

On Tabs, Out of 8GB space, 4 to 5 Gb will be used by Android and inbuild apps. Not all apps can be moved to SD Card using App to SD. I bought 8 GB tabs for my brother and my mother. They had lot of problems regarding space. If the space gets full, Tabs used to crash more often. I suggest to buy tab with more than 16 GB of space as personal experience.
Rossmor40
5 Jun 16 1 #46
You forget that not everyone wants to root their tablet either because they don't have the knowledge to do it, can't be bothered doing it or simply don't want to do it. So it is a concern if you fall into these categories not to mention the reduced functionality in some apps that you'll probably encounter because they're on the SD card. It's just simpler to pay an extra tenner or so for the 16gb version.
badeye
5 Jun 16 #45
No worries about 8gb storage. You can root the device with kingroot and then install 'app2sd pro' to liink all your apps to your micro sd card. You can easily stash about 6 - 7,000 apps onto 128gb. I have over 3,000 apps installed on my 64gb card.
Rossmor40
5 Jun 16 #44
It's a £70 tablet what did you expect? A Retina display? You aren't going to get a full HD screen on this sort of spec tablet for £70. The nearest was £109 on that John Lewis deal the other week for the Lenovo A10 for £110 which went quickly and is now back to it's standard price of £180.
Robbo11
5 Jun 16 #43
Maybe it is what you are used to but even the 9" Nook HD+ I bought over 3 years ago had a 1920x1280 screen so this tablet's much lower res in a bigger screen is the killer for me too.

1200x800 is ok for any tablet tbh. My tv which is 50" is only 1920x1080 so dependant on viewing distance this will look higher quality. I know that higher res is better but not a deal breaker on a tablet, well unless you drop too low. Currently on an ultra hd screen myself but for the most part no real difference in daily use but is nice.

I'm still on an HP Touchpad mainly because of the quality of the speakers. I have tried many other tablets, but none come close! I suppose an ipad is pretty good as well, but I prefer android..

You would think in the 5 years since the Touchpad was launched good quality speakers would be the bare minimum on any media device.

Considering this or the refurb Lenovo A10 Argos as for £110. I can't see much in it.
Rossmor40
5 Jun 16 2 #28
It's only a slightly tinny sound but that's the case with most tablets as you're never going to get the same sound out of them as you would out of a dedicated stereo. The bass is good but it's at the higher end of the bass range so I wouldn't describe it as a deep booming bass but that's down to the size if the speakers. I have a wireless speaker which I stream my audio to from my tablets and if audio is very important to you I'd always recommend getting a separate Bluetooth speaker but I'd have no problems listening to the sound from this tablets speaker for an extended period as it's one of the better ones I have heard.

Thanks Rossmore, would you say it's very "tinny" are does it have a bit of deeper bass?

Rossmor40
5 Jun 16 1 #24
I would agree with this as I bought the 16gb version of this from Argos EBay when it was posted on here a few weeks back as back up to an IPad Air 2. It was only £10 more at the time for the 16gb version but it's £89.99 now. It may well still be worth considering the bigger version as you will lose some of your 8gb for the system area. On the 16 gb version only about 12gb is left for your apps after the system partition is taken into account. There more apps than you think that can be moved to the SD card but that doesn't include the more popular ones like Facebook for instance.

Initially I feared the worst when I got this tablet as it arrived with the original retail box which was very tatty looking with holes in it. However the tablet inside which was a white one was pristine bar a scratch on the back on of it which wasn't that noticeable as the backing is silver. The screen is decent on this and a lot better than I thought it would be but obviously not up there with the Retina display on iPads. There is a bit of noticible lag on some apps but it's a budget tablet and is excellent for Internet browsing and the less intensive apps out there. Definitely a decent buy as a budget tablet.

Amazon reviews are probably the worst gauge out there of whether an item is decent or not. They're not be trusted as you get way too many idiots giving things one star for their item not being delivered on time or one star for the wrong colour being delivered etc which of course tell you nothing about how good the product is. There's more trusted reviews out there.

That doesn't always work as not all apps can be moved to the SD card. Even my 16Gb (Asus) tablet is creaking and that's after moving everything I possibly can to the SD card. So no way is 8gb even worth bothering with unless you only ever plan on watching films on it I suppose. But then a blu-ray player is cheaper and you can stream through that.
