I placed my order Saturday and it said I would have it within two working days. I am sure thats true normally, but I have seen it before where something kicks off on this site and places get more orders than they know what to do with. So I would imagine they might have a few days back log. I am hoping to have mine by the end of the week.

I have spoken to SONOS and Spotify about this, as I want to buy a load of speakers as I'm renovating my house. They said that if you have been a Premium member for a decent amount of time, contact Spotify customer support and they may be able to make a unique code available to you.

The codes were originally sent out entirely at random in a limited qualitity, so someone who's been a Spotify customer for 7 years like me, had the same chance at getting a code as someone who has only recently joined.

Just ordered a second Play5 to go with my existing Play5. I cannot wait to see what they sound like paired...!

Option 1 all day long. Speakers are small and great quality. You can add a Sub if you really want to at a later date if you really need bas.

I don't think you need to wire them anymore as they did a software update that negates the use of the Bridge. I still have a Bridge though as it creates a separate network for music streaming which is handy for multiple sources and hi quality files like WAV.

Did see this feature which I wasn't aware of - apparently you can use it to extend your wireless network too:

Easy Internet connectivity for other products in your house
When wirelessly connected to a BRIDGE, BOOST or another player, you can use the Ethernet port on the back of your PLAY:1 to bring standard Internet connectivity to your set-top box, DVR, PC, game console or network hard drive.

The Sonos are WiFi controlled, not bluetooth. JBL is bluetooth and more portable, whereas the Sonos requires to be plugged in at all times (therefore not "portable" in the traditional sense).

Sonos have superior sound quality though. Once you go Sonos though, you don't back. A bit like they say with Apple Mac's too.

Yeah, it's just as good but you have to remember its not directional like the Play 1. the Play bar incorporates the front left, centre and right channels. For placement, I would use it under the TV and have plenty of space around each side. The way the Play Bar recognises the Play 1 and adds them to a surround sound setup is a doddle and it all sound great. Obviously you can spend around £1500 on a dedicated surround sound setup but the Sonos is discreet, fewer cables and easier setup than a dedicated solution. I have a proper cinema sound system in my man cave with a £2000 Sony amp and Monitor Audio speakers which is made more for scale and loudness but for every day home cinema, you can't beat the Sonos solution and after all, isn't it all about using it all the time for great content? The only thing I would caveat is that it has one optical in so you will use your TVs HDMI ports to switch between sources. My old Samsung only has 3 x HDMI so limited but thats not Sonos fault :wink:

I haven't heard the Play 1 at home but I'm not convinced by your statement. I have a Play 5 and my £500 set-up blows it out the water so unless the Play 5 is much better than the Play 1 I find that hard to believe. Great software though and so so convenient which is why I splashed out.

The Play:3 is the worst of the bunch - I compared the 1, 3 and 5 (1st gen) 2 years ago, and the order of preference was 5 then 1 then 3. I bought a couple of 1s, my daughter got 1 too, then I got a Connect to plug into the back of an Arcam AV receiver. In April I got a Play:5 2nd gen and love it. Wife less happy though - it replaced a Play:1 in the kitchen, and it is 5 times bigger! Better at higher volumes though :smiley:
PS - We have Deezer premium, not Spotify! 1st 12 months was free with daughter's Play:1, then free 6 months with three mobile. Will have to pay for something soon :disappointed:

Not true... i just ordered 2 x Play1's with my discount code.

As much as I love my Sonos they *still* haven't re-introduced audible support and their BBC radio player support is still very limited and poor.
I'd also argue that they have very limited flexibility as all the play units have very limited input and output options. You can solve that to some extent with the connect:AMP and connect but they are hugely overpriced imo.

Hardware wise they are top notch and pretty much just work. Sound is excellent too.

I get the quality for a 'small' speaker system. My neighbour has several and I was quite impressed.

Yes you are :wink: Have you had a chance to listen at all? The only problem with demoing them is that in a busy shop, you can't get a sense of it. Only when I took a Play 1 home did I realise how good and full the sound was. I purchased another 1 and paired them and they sound incredible. As good as a speaker and amp set-up costing around £800 in my opinion but the beauty is the software and the ease of use. You can just listen to music without any faff.

I have several of the Sonos Play series including the old Play 5, the 2nd Gen Play 5 is by far the best performing speaker I have. Play 5 over 2 x Play 1's any day.

With my Play 1 i found it needed a little time to bed in to get the best sound out of it.

I had a Play 3 but then I heard a play 1 and bought two as a pari and they are MUCH better sounding. They were designed a few years after the older 3/5 so use more modern hardware but the new big units are better but a lot more money. I have 4 Play 1s and a play bar. And yes, wife loves them too...

I've got a few Play 1's dotted around the house and a Play 3 in the living room. The Play 1's sound better imo. Seem to give a fuller sound even after carrying out TruPlay or whatever the tuning is you can do via the Sonos app.

Only heard a Play 5 in John Lewis, love the new look. Sounded better than my 3.

No way. Have bought loads of different solutions including Cyrus Streamers and the sound quality vs usability vs build quality vs value of the Sonos is second to none.

If you can name another system that does what Sonos does, wireless multi-room streaming with support for ALL major premium and free streaming services, excellent sound quality, flexibility and an industry leading interface then please enlighten us. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the few bits of tech out there that is actually worth every penny.

I've not heard a Play 1, only the Play 3 and the Play 5 and the former was good but the latter was remarkably better.

It doesn't look like everyone's getting the code and there's no guarantee we would with a promo subscription anyway.

I hope this isn't a repeat of Sonos' selective promo policy where they gave out discounts ranging from huge to meagre to seemingly random individuals a few months ago.

Yeah the deal's real, just annoying I can't use it to buy a connect/connect:amp, but good if you only want the speakers.

Got 4 play 1's, playbar and sub, great bit of kit, works great and beautiful sound! Even the Mrs agrees it is one of the best purchases we have ever made for our home.
