Sorry about your phone :disappointed: Thinking of recommending this one to my sister, she has an ancient Xperia T that's getting very laggy.
I have had a phone (dumbphone Sony Ericsson) that had water damage (it had a kickstand but somehow went plop into the bath)...I did the dry rice remedy overnight in a warm cupboard which seemed to bring it back to life, but after a few weeks the earpiece started to go. Eventually it did die, it just did it slowly.

You can get this for less (£108) elsewhere. I think you're better off paying £5 more and getting the international Global ROM version which has Play installed and all the local / regional Chinese apps removed.

Redmi Note 3 Pro is 5.5" 1080p

20% VAT + handling fee. About total £30.50 inc RM handling fee; will be slightly more via couriers.
There are HUKD members who near-guarantee that marked-down items from Gearbest will not be pulled for import fees when using standard delivery. Buyers' choice/risk.

I guess AliExpress. Kimovil.com is a good Chinese smartphone price comparison site. Although don't use their link, see if there is Quidco available and go through them. AliExpress are on Quidco, for instance.
This phone is 115 quid from Banggood and they offer 6.3% cashback at topcashback and IME a 'better' buying experience than GearBest.

This is a great phone I got one off Ali Express for a little cheaper and a different colour, it came in about two weeks and I've checked it's genuine which it is

My Galaxy S5 never missed a beat. I kinda regret getting rid of it which was only because of the cheap feel to it. If I had the time again I'd get an S5 and a nice case.
You need to consult a doctor about the cheap feeling in your hand, it is a degenerative nervous disease called "enviatis".

Why pay more for someone to put a rom on that not only can you not vouch for them not messing around but you can out the Xiaomi eu rom on yourself, for free?
Get the standard one from your preferred trusted vendor, unlock bootloader and bung on the eu rom yourself.
4g on Vodafone can't be unlocked by any tweaks known presently.

Different strokes for different folk.
If you want to release your inner geek, then by all means install whatever ROM you want on it. For most people, they'd rather have the phone ready to go out of the box and use the time saved to spend on more interesting pursuits.

Ali is a bit like Amazon Marketplace in that you get different 3rd party sellers. No idea what the different vendors are like but I got mine from Ali / Hong Kong Goldway (who have decent feedback score on Ali).
Is this only standard delivery? I was thinking of getting the DHL delivery, would I be a lot more likely to get taxed then?
Picard123

Generally if you use a courier like DHL, you're more likely to get nabbed as there has to be custom declaration on the package.

finbaar
23 May 162#41
I would ensure that whatever version you get make sure it is in a sealed box. If the vendor flashes a rom it might not be the official global firmware and could have spyware etc. You are better off getting a sealed china version and flashing to global yourself than an unsealed global. IMHO.

I doubt that there's any device that would be worth upgrading to.
I own it myself for three years now and the only con is that battery is getting old. After research I found that its for what we currently have in a market I rather just go ant change the battery.. Nothing new just pointless cpu upgrades...
sotomonkey
23 May 16#51
Indeed. Phones haven't really changed much in the last five years or so, generally speaking the specs have just gone up.
Xiaomi make good phones but trouble with this one is you can't change the battery and that's a major problem in my opinion. A slower CPU is much less of a problem over a couple of years although that said some of these newer ones are more efficient and will save battery life.
Picard123
23 May 16#52
The battery on this is 4100 mAh - that's huge!! You'll probably be able to get a couple of days out of this particularly if you have Doze enabled. In addition, you can easily buy a portable battery charger which are as cheap as chips.
Of course they have. I've owned the Galaxy S2, S4, S5 and S7. The S7 is lightyears ahead of the S2. They just feel like completely different phones in terms of usability and functionality. Android has also changed significantly during that time.

Have you got a guide specifically for this model?
Would be useful for people as from what I've seen on the Mui forums, it's not without problems and issues seem to crop up post flash.
Would be even better if someone could figure out how to get Cyanogen (or similar) on this with full compatibility as Mui7 doesn't seem to play nice with a lot of Google apps and functionality as well as not being a particularly great UI.

You'd get the miui roms from en.miui.com. At present they haven't released a global rom for the Redmi 3 but I'd expect them to at some point.
In the mean time you can get the global rom from xaiomi. I've flashed it to the standard version of the Redmi 3 and it's really good.
I'd think you'd need to unlock the boot loader to install it. But does then mean you can put twrp on and install whatever custom rom you want that people have released.
At the moment no MM for the device but may come soon

I got the handset for the gf. She had my old nexus 5 which was not getting her through the day.
First day she switched over fully. Finished the day with over 50% battery left.
I'm pragmatic with battery life and stats as each person is different. Screen on time doesnt say it all. Watching a movie is different to playing a game etc.
But the key things for this phone when it comes to battery life are:
720p screen
massive battery
mid rang processor
Sure it'll do well for people if battery life is important
zan87
