Saw this on rollback at my local ASDA (Hatfield) and managed to get one, thought I might share it as my first deal here, might be available at others too. Apologies if there are any issues with the post :)
As per the OP: "Saw this on rollback at my local ASDA (Hatfield)" (in-Store offer). :-)

Can see these really coming down now with the prices of the SSD's coming down as they are a real advantage in laptops using less power and the weight.
Still hot for the size to price though.

Little chance of that happening as the HD technology+manufacturing has changed little for over a decade and has been running at maximum capacity for some time since the Thailand disaster.

OP .. your current Deal reminds me a little bit of this previous (but since/now expired) Deal here too:
WD 2TB Berry My Passport Ultra Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBBKD0020BBY-EESN Fulfilled by Amazon £49.59
Got one. Label on shelf said £72 still. But a price check showed it as £38.

Ahhh this is what I've been looking for, heatttt!! I don't know whether to call stores or just start hunting, there's probably no chance of finding one though :disappointed:

Very rarely find these Asda deals. Very store specific (or very limited at least).

Can confirm I tried to get one in Harrogate last night but although there was a hanging thing to take to the till there was none left, so they let me have the Seagate backup plus slim for the same price. I got the last Seagate, so no point in trying Harrogate. The rest are about £39-£42 for a 1Tb which I think is pretty standard. There's no desktops just portables.

5 May 16#21
Wow the seagate contains a Samsung Spinpoint SATA drive so you got a hell of a deal!

200gb onedrive for 2 years as well. Thought about using it in my laptop but my 1tb is a hybrid so I think I'll stick with it.

Thanks. Managed to grab a couple in Hyde near Manchester, last two maybe. Had to ask though, only had Seagate on display. Plenty of WD 1tb left.
Weird how they don't put them on the shelf. Keeping them for workers only?

Is this a portable one? (2.5" drive inside?), if so would it be suitable to use to replace the HD in a PS4?
uly33
5 May 16#25
Yes it's the smaller 2.5 external. Don't know about opening it up to fit into a PS4 though.
edit: measurements of outer case so others can get a grasp, it's 8cm x 11cm x 2cm compact style external with short USB 3 cable

For 2tb it's a cracking price, but only 5400rpm :disappointed:

5 May 161#40
I thought the idea behind "Asda Rollback" was that the price of something was rolled back to a time many moons ago, when the price of it was lower. But if that's true then shouldn't the price of this have gone up instead of down??
Nexusfifth
5 May 162#41
IT is very rare to find these portables faster than 5400rpm as they are designed to run on less power.

Gutted but thanks for update, I may try London road on the off chance
Don't think there's any in Coventry at all, went to most and couldn't find it even after asking staff. Sucks, was in the market for an external HDD.
GwanGy
6 May 16#45
I don't know about that .. seagate and WD have sold about 20% less drives YOY and the market shows no signs of picking up... more capacity for less money every year, till ssd's eat their market completely.
zebrum to GwanGy
6 May 16#46
No WD drives have USB port soldered on so you can't extract the drive inside. See the Seagate 2TB expansion (or slim) portable which contains a Samsung SATA 2.5" 9.5mm which can go in the ps4. And note only the 2TB has this drive.

Although I agree that this is a bargain. really need 2. so you can back up your back up data. I'm a firm believer of not putting all your eggs in a basket. if you only back up to one device what happens when it fails. data /memories are priceless and not easily replicated. so recommend yoy get 2 of these and get onto a habit of scheduling regular backups as you'll not get forwarding when devise about to malfunction and Warrenty won't bring your data back. heat added

Bought 1 from Asda Stanley this morning. Says £65 on shelf but went through at checkout at £38. 1tb had a £44 rollback tag too but might be cheaper at checkout as well. Still had 1 2tb left in the shelf too.
