These are awesome.. and that's a stunning price. They do indeed have a rechargeable battery.. they run Linux, and you can SSH into them.. meaning you can do prettyuch anything you like with these.
I use the 500gb one as a photo backup on holiday.. stick my SD cards into it.. hit the button and it backs up the card automatically. (Standard functionality)
I then have a script which runs.. and rsyncs a differential backup to my home server via whatever WiFi this is connected too.
It's a great little device.
A word of warning.. update to the latest firmware.. a problem in earlier ones allowed the battery to be over charged if left plugged in 24/7 and caused some pretty spectacular bloated batteries.. which is highly dangerous. The warning to upgrade is fairly prominent in the WD forums, but it's not obvious otherwise. The latest version is 1.06.06 so make sure you have that one.

Hi, Thanks for your tips, I could now download the invoice but it is not the usual type. This aims at VAT. I contacted Tesco on their page specially ask for a proper invoice. I just received their non-reply email with this vat receipt again (showing copy)
Would you kindly advice me that:
Would this kind of invoice be OK with WD in case need repairing as I usually shop with Amazon and Amazon would provide formal invoice not like this kind of display.
Also if I sell it later (I only intent to use for a trip this summer for sd transferring), could I still saying to potential buyers that the item is £78 with this kind of invoice.

me too, the package box itself has a WD label state 2-years limited warranty.
I always assume retailer (tesco) would cover the 12 months but not sure what this wordings mean on the delivery note ?
dealchaser888
26 May 16#76
it arrives within the time zone show on the uk mail track line, luckily someone there for the delivery (as tesco email us at around 6am about the delivery !)
Now all we need is a proper purchase invoice from Tesco (only have the dispatch note inside the parcel)

mines arrived and the delivery note states warranty info ..none doa period manufacturer replaces unit with us 5yrs warranty return to distributor for replacement
so im a bit confused with the none bit and then the 5yrs bit

As promised letting you know what's happened with OH's order...just checked and drive has been dispatched...still really p'd off that I ordered before them and mine was cancelled...guess I'm going to have to be really nice so I can pinch it off them...actually coming to think of it I'm in when deliveries arrive so I'll get first dibs :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow! I was assuming it was going to turn out a misprice followed by cancellation! Downside it's scheduled for delivery this morning and there's no-one in. Text notification doesn't offer redelivery option.

yes, I get it too this morning tesco email with track (look like coming this morning)
at first I thought tesco would cancel this as only my other item had been dispatch. That I am wrong

Heck with my own order they even cancelled the top up item I'd added to use the discount code...wouldn't care but I actually wanted the item but had been waiting until I had £30 of stuff to order as it wasn't worth paying £3 click and collect on a £1.95 item.

There is something a little strange about these. I've ordered one and it said up to 2 weeks delivery. I ordered a laptop about 30 minutes earlier and that has been dispatched and ready to collect tomorrow. My drive is showing as Processing and At Warehouse. So I don't understand why these would take 2 weeks ??

My £3 item to top up and use a discount code has been dispatched. The drives have not!

Ok will do...have just doubled checked the status of OH's order on Tesco's website and it has changed to "Partially Accept 2" so god knows what the hell that means.

This drive is portable (2,5" factor), you can take it anywhere as it has a rechargeable battery. You don't need a power socket or any cables and you can connect it directly to your phone or tablet.
It also has a card reader (a really slow one by the way). So you can back-up your photos while travelling.
David_e
25 May 161#57
That only works in the house. This is intended for use anywhere.

Email to say silly beggars have dispatched my £3 'top up' item! The drives (yes ordered two!) are "At Warehouse".
If I don't get the drives, they can have the £3 item back!

let me know if your OH gets his order please, beginning to think is it possible Tesco pick their orders in reverse order.
Because like you I got a stock alert and ordered straight away.

do you have a link to the model you bought?
malm
25 May 16#53
yes Tesco Direct have no idea what they are doing, most annoying thing is my money is in their account, have lost count of how many of my orders they have cancelled recently.
tiggerloveslife
25 May 16#52
Yup...placed an order when I got a stock alert from Tesco as I've been waiting for it to come back into stock since about January I think...about half an hour after I placed my order my OH placed an order...mine has been cancelled but so far theirs hasn't...really doesn't make any sense...mind you they'll probably cancel OH's as well but just haven't got round to it yet. Wouldn't care but they also cancelled the other item I'd ordered along with the hard drive despite the fact it's most definitely in stock and I did actually want it...gits...

So essentially you're paying quite a premium for the wireless functionality? I bought a 4TB SEAGTE for £79 and just plugged it into my router = wireless hard drive. Granted it sounds like there's some software which will benefit some, but for others my solution might be better

How are these powered...USB or mains adapter? Not immediately obvious as they're "wireless" (for connectivity anyway), i'm assuming mains adapter otherwise they render the "wireless" pretty much useless if they need to be plugged in to a USB port to work.
