Fantastic deal on a high-reliability external hard drive, far cheaper than I've seen a nationwide deal before, only £17.50 per terabyte.
Usually £100+ for a 4tb drive.
First time post so constructive help welcome!

Yeah that's because their drives on't fail as often so staff don't know what to do.

Mine arrived yesterday. The WD Elements box had holes in it and the drive enclosure, whilst new had some scratch marks through the protective plastic wrapper, but the drive worked fine.
Called customer services hoping they'd offer a £10 discount. Completely chuffed when they gave me a 50% refund.

most are rebadged greens so you may want to change the park settings in firmware

Not really if you're keeping them in the enclosure and using them as external drives. But if you're taking them out and using them internally (as some of us do) there are differences which are explained here.

Is anyone a 'Seagate fanboy'?
scott1541
3 Jun 161#63
Now that's interesting, I would've preferred a red over a blue, but oh well, a blue is adequate for my uses.
ION the seagate fanboys are going mad right now over the expansion 4TB drive at £84.99.... We definitely got a better deal with this

Just to show how random it is, I bought two drives and one is a Red and the other is a Blue. Quite pleased to get a 4TB Red for £70 seeing as they're currently selling for £129 on Amazon! Haven't decided what to do with them yet (use as internal or keep external).

Interesting read here about this Blue series drive. Does this mean that WD are introducing Blue series drive with the Element range secretly? Sneaky sods.

Got mine earlier, CrystalDiskInfo is telling me it's packing a WD40EZRZ. I'm not going to crack it open to confirm, it's going to be a backup drive so its staying in the enclosure.

Mine is blue, only needed a screwdriver for the sata to usb board, the casing was just clipped on.
Good to know. At least that will put to a stop to the all false accusations of Amazon selling recertified drives in brand new sealed retail units.

Mine dispatched also.

1 Jun 16#50
That's good to know. Mine doesn't say dispatched but it's supposed to be arriving tomorrow (prime). I bought two and I might crack one of them open to check the drive inside. If it wasn't a misprice I don't know why they were so cheap (the 3TB version was more expensive).

These are brand new sealed retail units direct from Amazon UK. Have some faith with Amazon's customer services or you could buy from Currys PCWorld & try out their aftersales services.

James123
1 Jun 16#47
Why would they be? It was direct from Amazon (not a marketplace seller), they weren't advertised as recertified/refurbished and as far as I'm aware HDD manufacturers aren't allowed to use recertified drives inside external enclosures and sell them as "new" in the UK anymore.
Have to wait and see when mine arrives, if it is indeed a recertified one Amazon can have it back :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi does anyone know why "Seagate 5TB is only £85.37" mentioned in post #30 got removed HUKD? Many thanks
Apart from the great price and being sold by amazon, remember this one also has an on/off power switch on the back, which is really nice to have.

I bought one of the 5TB WD Elements in the Currys deal 6 months ago (89.99) and it wasn't soldered. Easy to remove the drive from the enclosure without doing any damage. It was a WD Blue drive and it's in my PC now. This should be the same unless they are old stock. Would be very nice if Amazon do honour the deal (£17.50/tb).
