I would expect an Ultra 7 to be announced soon, which should see the price of the Ultra 6 drop by a bit more. I wouldn't expect the Ultra 7 to be an upgrade though.
Both the Smart Prime 7 and Smart First 7 were released this week, although both are actually worse than the 6 series. The Prime has downgraded from an SD410 to SD212. The First has been downgraded to a speedtrum processor and lower res screen (HVGA vs WVGA on 6). I can't believe they have used a HVGA screen in 2016. It doesn't bode well for the Smart Ultra 7.

i've owned both. I still have the p8 lite.
as a huawei fan I have to be honest and say i'm actually disappointed with the p8 lite. it OK but nothing more - and I really loved my past 3 huawei's. I find it lags quite a bit.
the smart ultra 6 I found OK. It lacks the LED notification which I disliked since all my previous phones have had it. I just found its just too big for practical daily use.
I'd say the biggest factor is size.
if you have enough cash buy both play around and chances are you'll make at least your money back for whichever you decide to sell

I have always rooted my phones, usually quite easily done. For SU6 need to use Kingo Root, KingRoot, and similar apps which require an internet connection (to servers in China?). All previous roots worked without phone-home apps so am a bit wary about these king* type utils.

Am I correct this does not have an official Marshmallow update and is not likely to have one?
Marshmallow has significant benefits in how the memory card can be used, particularly the ability to run apps from the memory card. Therefore, if you don't regularly update your phone it might be worth waiting until there is a great sub-£100 phone with Marshmallow...

Bloatware with king* utils has been reported, that's why step 5 in SilverBandit's post is essential to replace kingroot with known SuperSU. There are scrips to completely remove king* files after rooting but I haven't tried them.

Yeah, they made a cock up. EE did a similar phone costing £200 made by ZTE released at same time. The only thing that could really be improved on the SU6 is the camera, and a nicer finish, but if they did that they wouldn't sell any high end handsets (apart from to the mugs)
You can install apps to run from SD on this, but it causes the phone to lag really badly, especially if background services are running. Best off keeping it for video.
Don't see the need to root this phone, very little bloatware which can be uninstalled or disabled.

16 May 16#67
I agree with importance of having Marshmallow on your phone if you don't have a lot of onboard memory but can add a memory card.
Marshmallow has transformed how I can run apps and keep them updated without continuously having to move apps from onboard memory to the card manually each time they were updated. I have an 8GB Moto E which was destined for the bin before Marshmallow.
It even runs faster now!

The MobileGo rooting method in Modaco's SU6 FAQ seems to not work for the latest SU6's (and no agreement yet on how to differentiate between latest and the earlier production runs which rooted easily). King* methods work on all SU6's albeit with the Chinese phone-home concerns.

If/when you unlocked the phone, which carrier & pay-as-you-go tariffs are you using?
I'm currently on the old Orange/EE canary tariff, and was just going to unlock and use that SIM. But current SIM is micro vs the nano required for this phone and EE would want £10.20 to transfer SIM cards :smirk: So was looking around, and read that ASDA Mobile uses EE network, so I shouldn't see a change in service quality. Not sure if it's available instore, but on their site you can order a SIM from them for free. Arrives "within 5 working days" and it's a multi-SIM card where you "pop out the correct SIM size".
At the very least I will be able to use the sim to test the ebay unlock code, but I think I'll get my PAC code from EE and swap to them as this is how my current tariff compares to them;
