What do they spray them with to make the whole vine ripen at the same time?

Possibly ethylene gas which is produced naturally by the tomatoes anyway but it speeds up the maturation process. The wonders of selective breeding and highly efficient farming/production methods will probably also contribute. Some taste might be sacrificed but that's the small price you pay to provide food for hundreds of millions of people. I actually tend to find ones like these on the vine taste better than a standard tomato.

So they're cheap, but do they have any taste? Many terrible tomatoes around. Having said that, I bought a pack of baby plum tomatoes from Iceland the other day and they were very good, and excellent value for £1.
