Well, i've bought one now..
I've been looking for a while as my previous Vax ~6 years old is getting a bit tired.. the cable is showing wires an not as good at picking up as it was...

Mine is a couple of years old now and has been fine up until recently. It now makes a very loud hissing noise from a small vent at the top of the unit by the carrying handle. I presume it needs the filter changing but looking at it I didn't think it looked that bad.

That is the release valve, which suggests some kind of blockage or restriction - have you thoroughly washed (and dried) the filter? If it's a couple of years old, it may be worth replacing as they do deteriorate.

nice find op, purchased and used it, very happy with it, i like the air flow vent at the front above brush bar to allow more air in making it easier to push on higher carpet. this replaces our old vax power 3 that survived the last 5 - 6 years and a full remodel on the house.

Vax are one of the most unreliable vacs according to Which. And the ratings are a con as each manufacturer makes up their own. The others tend to be more conservative and give things c or b ratings as well. Whereas Vax just gives all A ' s.

I've had many Vax over the years (not because there was anything wrong with them, but more that I'm a geek that likes the latest one) and I've never had a single problem with them that wasn't easy to fix myself.
The only vacuum cleaner I ever had a real problem with was a Dyson, and that was a real PITA, hence why I've used Vax since.

We bought one from vax outlet, utter **** - and their support too - suggested I order a new filter to get some kind of decent suction out of it after just 6 months which didnt improve anything. Now I have to send their filter back to get a refund. VAX units are heavily discounted for a reason.... utter crap... invest in a Dyson it's worth it in the end ours is still going strong after 5 years.

Purchased over the weekend, far superior over our current Vax Powerpet 9, which was noisy and heavy, and was a Vax warranty replacement of a Powerpet 8 which had a stuck power switch (fixed and given away for free), fair play to Vax to send out a completely new machine.

Did you reserve it when it was 99.99? Wondering if I could get it at 89.99 still, seems unlikely :disappointed:
