Go with the Redmi Note 3 you won't be disappointed. I've had a couple of UMI phones and they always lie about the specs, especially the camera, it is always awful. Got the Redmi Note 3 Pro last month and my only regret is that I didn't get it sooner, excellent phone.

Yes I saw the new update this morning as well but I haven't updated mine yet.
So basically we have an update with no update :stuck_out_tongue:
I am not too happy with my purchase because:
1. The camera is Rubbish. It has a mind of its own. Sometimes the picture is okay (just okay) but most of times its absolutely shocking.
2. It heats up while on charge and when I am on a call lasting more than 10 minutes.
3. Even though it has a bigger battery compared to my P8 (not light) but the battery life is poor. It hardly gets me through the day with more or less the same usage I had on my P8. I am usually left with around 20% charge at the end of the day whereas on my P8 I would have 30-40% charge left.
4. The GPS, as most of us know is non-existent.
5. The speaker and in-call volume is also very poor even when it is on full blast. If you are in a crowded place, forget about taking a call as you would not hear a thing.
I guess it's more or less all the Chinese phones (sub £200) that look good on paper (and pictures) but they don't offer what they promise. I have owned 3 phones in the past including this one but not one has impresses me much. I wish I could return this phone and get my money back but unfortunately its not going to happen. I will have to fight a WW3 to get my refund or get the issues fixed sooner than later. But hey, that's the gamble we took.

There was an update this morning, released yesterday. Unfortunately it hasn't made any difference to the gps, still can't lock onto a single satellite. As far as I can tell it's not made any difference to the camera or speaker.
My compass was completely out of whack (N was S) and after reseting its still off by 5-10' which is no good for navigation.

thanks. I've read that mediatek chipset has different charging technology to Qualcomm

11 Jul 16#107
Apparently there is a new FOTA update coming this week. Maybe that will help? If not I think I'll have to return mine too. Shame as it seems a good phone apart from the GPS. Is your compass ok? I tried to calibrate mine and its still way off
oscar72
11 Jul 16#106
Thanks for the reply, I was starting think I had a faulty unit. checking with the GPS status app the phone doesn't lock onto a single satellite, it temporarily gets locations from wifi and mobile networks.
I will have to send mine back (no idea how that works on aliexpress), without gps and handsfree. the phone is useless for me.
markt91
11 Jul 16#105
Yeah its ok, not sure if it fast charges though. It seemed fast at first but when I timed it, it takes around 2 hours for a full charge. Quicker when the phone is powered off

I think its the screen protector, might be too thick. I'll have to bin it as its already chipped near the top cut out.
As for the phone impressive build quality and very smooth software/processor looks premium, unfortunately the camera is poor every photo appears dull and slightly grey. The speaker is appalling it's useless for phone calls using speaker mode, very quite and and speech keeps breaking up like listening to to a poorly tuned AM station. Take it off speaker and speech is clearer but still very quite, forget about using the phone in the car whilst driving on hands free or parked near little traffic.

2 Jul 16#95
Same here. I put it on yesterday and it only works fine if I am holding the phone in my hand. If its on my desk it doesn't respond.
I am not sure if its the screen protector or the phone but I have bought another tempered glass screen protector for Vodafone Smart ultra 6 which should just fit fine on this phone.
oscar72

Anyone buy this screen protector and find the screen unresponsive? I'll have to bin it if there's no way to fix it.

That charges should be fine. Anker are good quality.
Mine arrived this morning. First impressions are good. I've been having a play around for a couple of hours. Only slight negative so far is the battery - hopefully this may improve after a couple of charges?
I've got a couple of questions regarding the umi super/android, i'll post that in the ask section

It says "item is ready for shipment" which was updated yesterday morning. So yes mine is also still in Netherlands.

Um bit difficult to tell really as:
A. I've already given the phone to my son
B. I didn't test the camera after yesterdays update i think.
But here's what I would say, it's nowhere near as good as the my S6 or LG G4 but it is significantly better than comparable Chinese landfill phones that i've seen recently. Also the test shots I did were indoor with very little knowledge of the camera, literally point & shoot. Also when you zoom in on the image there's still an incredible amount of detail in the picture unlike other phones where it just becomes a jaggy mess. (the LG G4 is prone to this some times)

Moto used to be quite good but Lenovo has been crap for updates.

I will get the Super for my son as soon as N is available to replace his Nexus 4.

6 Jun 16#63
I think Motorola head the queue of devices to get updates first and that's after the Nexus devices as well. Fair play to Umi for trying but I think they might have to up their build quality first before Google would trust them to be at the bleeding edge of Android updates.

I've received today my XIAOMI Redmi Note 3 Pro 16GB 4G SILVER from gearbest, which I bought 24/5. Delivered by Yodel, no notes about any additional cost (like VAT).
Price: $182.19 (£130) plus some extras:
TPU Soft Protective Cover Case for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 / Note 2 Pro Color:TRANSPARENT $2.48
ASLING Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Redmi Note 3 Color:TRANSPARENT $3.84
total: $188.51
Excellent value for money. I had Redmi Note 2 before (the same price but months ago) and I never complained. You can check Huawei phones as well, it's a similar high quality.

I'm a ex UMI Owner. My experience was not good. I owned the UMI Zero. It was at the time their flagship phone. It's looked great, but was awful. An average of 6 reboots a day! Dropping 50% of calls made, awful battery life. YouTube and gaming made the phone uncomfortable to touch due to how hot it got. The GPS was shocking. For the 6 months I used it had to pull out my 6 year old sat nav as Google maps/Nokia Here and Waze refused to work. The rom was rooted, not made clear when buying. Better Chinese companies out there for phones,

I've got an HTC10 as daily driver, RAM doesn't compare to processing power for phones (unless you have 1 gb or under). When I sent my LG G4 away for repair I realised I don't have a solid backup or something to take on holiday so this might just fit the bill. GizChina says some of these have started shipping.
hcc27
1 Jun 161#39
Yes agree. Hotknot is a result of some pretty impressive 'out of the box' thinking by MediaTek. That company has a long ways to go. Cheap as chips compared to an NFC implementation, and the uptake in China should spread out to other countries shortly.
hcc27

Excellent spec. Several Chinese brands are releasing mid price phones with similar specs. The one that interests me is the Ulefone Future available mid-June. It's spec is almost the same as the Umi Super and Elephone P9000 but comes with a cool looking bezel free screen. Common to all three phones is that although the hardware is top notch value for the money, it's the implementation of the software that has a big influence on whether it's just ok or great. The Elephone is already out there and getting rave reviews but as for the Ulefone and Umi, we will have to wait and see. Great choice to have.
