Enclosure alone is £248.65 making 8TB drive just £73.29.
The 2/4/6 and 8TB are all priced at £321.94? some kind of glitch there.

Very likely to be honest. Just be prepared to wait a while knowing that Amazon could cancel your order at anytime! good luck though if you do decide to purchase :smirk:

They've also released the DS116 new single bay drive with some updated hardware which i want to get hold of - I've got the DS115 but it'll be nice to upgrade.
Just need the money first!

Yes like my DS214play
It has QuickConnect for DDNS or you can setup port forwarding and virgin usually provide static IPs

Do Amazon take payment on dispatch?
You can stream most media to a chromecast, Xbox etc. Remote access should work fine.

Talked to CS, apparently they don't take payment until dispatch, so I've ordered one just on the off chance it's honoured :stuck_out_tongue:

Am I looking at this the right way?
Synology DS216+ 8 TB
comes with 2 x 4TB drives?
DS216+/8TB-RED is the product code and according to other sites it is 2 x 4tb
price is still the same.

Sounds likely to get cancelled. Great NASes though - pricey, but you get what you pay for and don't end up buying a new one in a couple of years. I have a 6 year old DS210j and it's still going strong and still getting software updates! With all the updates it's had it's a much different NAS now to what it was 6 years ago.

No problems at all, Plex encodes through the software as opposed to the HW so it works perfectly.

A 2 bay enclosure with 8TB included storage uses 2x4TB disks.
You can run them in RAID 0, RAID 1 or JBOD.

No idea about what you have said, it's not accurate.
I expect this will be fine for one HD stream or two at a stretch. But not sure there is a Nas on the market that could handle more streams than that at the same time (hardware limitation)...
Anyway one stream is possibly all that is required for the majority of users, who knows.
Looks like it's this price for the $TB and 6TB versions now

Good deal. I have opted for the 8TB but delivery is 3 weeks so as has been said before, plenty of time for them to cancel. Was tempted to go for the 4TB as it was for delivery tomorrow and still an excellent price... Ah well, time will tell...
tiggerloveslife
1 Jun 16#45
Oh round things....wasn't too sure from the description on Amazon so went for the 6TB one as couldn't decide whether the 8TB contained one 8TB drive or 2 X 4TB drives and figured there was such a big difference in costs between the cost of a single 6TB and 8TB drive that the 6TB worked out at the more affordable option at the moment...now wishing I'd gone with the 8TB one if it does in fact contain 2 X 4TB drives...admittedly it's probably not going to matter a toss anyway when they cancel the damned thing and I've wasted several hours of my life agonising over which one to go for in the middle of the night...lol...
And yes I apologise to all as I've just realised how confusing the above is...I blame sleep deprivation

I have been hunting for this for awhile. Last week they had a refurb ds716 no disk unit for £290 and should have pulled the trigger. Currently own the DS211 and its probably the best piece of IT equipment I have ever bought. If you are thinking about it, they are worth the money. As for being the Apple of NAS's, probably a fair point, but I would argue their prices are more reasonable

Synology NAS boxes are not a great choice for Plex if you need transcoding. You're better off with a NUC box (or an old PC) if you need transcoding . I find XBMC/Kodi works better if you have large .mkvs. Synology NAS are a good choice if your media is already encoded in a Plex-friendly format, otherwise it's a pain.

Don't know if it's any help to any of you but Amazon haven't changed the price for the 2TB/4TB/6TB from £321.94 yet...would have thought they would have done this by now particularly for the 6TB version...it's status has also changed from temporarily out of stock to dispatched within 2-4 weeks and is still available to order for £321.94 if anyone was still after one especially those of you that have had the 8TB version cancelled.

2 Jun 16#56
Just to add to what Tigger has highlighted... As I mentioned I had the 8TB version cancelled, and I then ordered the 6TB version at the same price. Had email from them today giving an updated delivery between 2-3 weeks, with no query on the price.

Noticed that Amazon have finally changed the prices...6TB version now £450.04, 4TB £430.11, 2TB £380.28...
Not heard anything about my order yet but the 6TB version is back to showing as temporarily out of stock...was regretting not going for the 8TB version but quite glad I didn't now seeing as they were cancelled...maybe too much of a loss for Amazon to accept willingly although its not as if they couldn't afford to especially with the way their prices fluctuate normally...admittedly I'll not be surprised if the 6TB and 4TB are eventually cancelled.

Was just having a check on my order to see if any change regarding delivery date...still showing as temporarily out of stock but happened to notice that Amazon is no longer listed as a seller for the 6TB version so not sure if this is a sign of things to come i.e. cancellations

Know it has been showing on my order as temporarily out of stock for days but Amazon were definitely still showing as a seller of the 6TB version for £450 (and so many pennies) on the item page itself last night but are now no longer listed as a seller of it....mind you wonder what the hell they're up to with their NAS pricing as been quite a few at mis-prices recently...the QNAP one was suddenly available again at £247.99 and then they promptly cancelled all orders for it a second time.

7 Jun 161#71
