Assuming you want to avoid potential customs fees associated with foreign suppliers, probably overall best value performance & feature combination is £33 item with 2GB RAM & includes all the features that lesser boxes treat as optional http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172161272747
If cash v tight: high £20 dlvd http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311606461167 but that does not support x265/HEVC content whereas a high £22 item does http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172162064570.
OP item probably best value if you prefer a recognised brand combined with credible supplier and the perceived benefit associated with that combination, although £28 ebay items have hardware features & performance v similar to the OP Sumvision but with benefit of gigabit LAN that the OP Sumvision does not have http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231931881775.

With the comments on here it seems like anything on ebay with a paypal warranty under 6 months or this one with a 12 month warranty.

Though "fully loaded" with Kodi add-ons that are likely to be broken and which the Kodi team are **** about. Don't support this sort of thing if you can avoid it. If you want certain add-ons, install them yourself, but don't encourage sellers to do this.

I have the Cyclone X4 which is quite old now but does the job for running Kodi. Although I have installed BBC iPlayer and Netflix in the past these two apps do not work well(may be different on this new version which has a better spec) and make the viewing unwatchable. I don't find Sumvision offer much in terms of updates. I had looked around for custom mods but with no luck.

I have the same think in a different brand, not brilliant & the operating system is very flaky, I ended up buying a Lenovo Idea stick 300 for £49.99 on offer, much better at streaming from my NAS as well as Netflix also good for Minecraft.

You seriously seem to know what you are talking about. I am looking for a media player that is capable of playing 10 bit encoded MKV files, which the WD Media Player cannot, are any of these capable of that. Thanks in advance.

6 May 16#27
Don't profess to be an expert, but I do tend to follow the pricing trends. I assume you mean 10bit x265/HEVC? If so, all s905 boxes have the hardware capability to play 10bit x265 smoothly in mkv and mp4 containers. I have found the combination of s905 and Kodi from v15+ to be more than capable of playing 10bit x265, yet even on the same s905 hardware, some players struggle with 10bit x265 (e.g MXplayer). Not sure about 10bit x264 cos never tried it.
Likely to see best performance on 10bit x265 via an s905 box with 2GB RAM; say £33 upwards.

I've got a Cyclone X4. Kodi came preinstalled but add-ons wouldn't work with it, had to reinstall stuff.... but now it runs well and handles HD streaming easily.
Some misinterpretation. MXplayer mentioned in prev post is an Android app. The Gearbest item you link to will be fine for 10bit x265 when used with a recent build of Kodi. It is other software on the same player that may struggle to fully utilise the s905's decoding capability for 10bit x265 content.
Contrary to other sweeping statement earlier in thread, any item directly sourced from overseas may be pulled by customs. If so, that specific item will be charged circa £14 in fees regardless of the supplier's declaration of say 15 USD value. It really is a customs lottery with items purchased directly from far east.

If you bought anything from Gearbest before you would know they mark the value down so you don't have to pay any import taxes. Anything thing over £15 your liable but in this case they will mark it down as $20. Stop scaremongering on this thread and other deals concerning products from the far east.

In humour: are you so confident that customs fees will never be applied to a Gearbest purchase that you will personally cover any customs fees that HMRC levy on any HUKD members' purchases?
Credit our county's HMRC staff with some intelligence: if they decide to pull and open a package, are they really going to believe the coulouful value declaration that Gearbest has stated on the customs label?
I have bought a number of items from far east and luckily only been hit for VAT&admin once. Stating that a package "may" get pulled for fees is far more realistic than suggesting it will not.

They have bigger fish to catch. 10'000's of little white parcel go through custom everyday, they know the market is flooded with cheap chinese goods from the far east. The parcel is marked down a HD media player and as a gift with a value $20 so will let it through. I'm 100% certain you won't get stung with any import taxes. I've bought over 20+ items from China and not once have I or will I ever pay any import taxes. Even if they did pull up your parcel (which they won't) how are they going to determine the value when there is no invoice inside? that's why they don't bother.
If you use a courier like DHL then yes if shipping from the far east. That's why Gearbest use standard shipping and it takes more than 2-4 weeks to deliver to you. If they use a courier service like DHL then there is a chance your going to get hit but on the other hand you will get your parcel within 5 days.
VAT
You pay VAT on goods sent from non-European Union (EU) countries and EU special territories (eg the Canary Islands) if they’re:
gifts worth more than £34
other goods worth more than £15
alcohol, tobacco products and fragrances (eg perfume, eau de toilette and cologne) of any value
All goods bought from Gearbest is marked down as a gift with a value of $20 so no import tax.
Your using a bad example, that deal was from Gearbest shipped from an EU warehouse so no import tax regardless.

We're in danger of hijacking thread, so my final comment re import-related fees:
HMRC use the "declared value" as a guide. Don't even bother trying to argue the value when HMRC don't agree with the sender's colourful marked-down price.
Repeat of first two words from sentence quoting example thread mentioning import fees: "Previous experiences".

Do these devices just run Android with kodi and stuff pre-installed?
I'm just looking for an Android device to plug into a screen in my home gym to stream videos via DLNA and music via MPD and sometimes play files locally from an SD Card, USB stick etc. Don't want Kodi, find the interface cumbersome and there won't be any metadata for my videos anyway. I don't care about television or streaming anything from outside of my network.
I just want ES File Explorer, AnDLNA and MPDroid, maybe a PDF reader without having to plug my tablet in to the HDMI but on something that can actually play the videos, I wanted to use a Pi for this but it seems it's not really up to the task.
Do these things actually give me what I need or are they just under-powered gimmicks? Ideally I'd want to be spending closer to £20

WOW, you dont want much for £20  - to be honest you get what you pay for... some devices will do the tasks you need, but really you might be better off spending a few more quid and getting something that can handle your request.
Good luck mate

Well there are some for £20, £25 etc. I'm just asking if those ones are up to what I want to do with them....which is a lot less than what other people want to do with them, such as, I don't want to run Kodi. I want to run three or four Android apps, all that probably require less than Kodi so you're correct, I don't want much for £20.
According to the marketing, the £20 ones should do what I want, however I'm hesitant because of the Raspberry Pi which is also often marketed as a Kodi box and the performance is shockingly bad.

Not seen an example of the £20 item you mention, but considering the least-cost S905-based item is now under £24 delivered ex-UK and will tick all the boxes you mention, you could satisfy yourself that such an item will play anything you throw at it including x265/HEVC @ 10bit which other platforms fail, although you may need to retain Kodi to do tick those particular boxes. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172075942895 and is even stated as having bluetooth which is unheard of in a UK-supplied S905 item at this pricepoint.
