For all those who are tempted by this, it is absolutely worth the extra to get the complete edition. The base Civ V game is a great game, but the two expansions turn it into one of the best strategy games ever made.

This. The base game is amazing, but the expansions tweak, change and add so much to the game that it's well worth getting the complete edition.

What do they add? Have the base game, just so 'empty' compared to civ III or even IV.
Is diplomacy improved? V feels even more limied than II, its awful.

Bought this last week for £5. It was £20 on steam so I thought I got a bargain, but even at £20 it's a bargain. A must buy for any strategy fan

*Civilization. That's the name Sid Meiers called it, so is the correct spelling.

There are plenty of tweaks, but in terms of significant improvements you have ideologies, international trade, religion, world congress, espionage, and culture (which includes tourism, archaeology and great works). The biggest change to diplomacy is the world congress. When that is founded you have a system whereby a periodic intervals all nations vote on particular policies, restrictions or embargos, which can really affect the dynamic of an individual game and gives a new dimension to diplomacy.
It is worth noting that if you really didn't enjoy the base game, it may be that the expansions still aren't enough to change your mind. For me Civ V was a return to form for the series in terms of the balance between accessibility and depth, and the great success of the expansions was to maintain that accessibility whilst adding a significant amount of depth. If you feel differently about the base game, it may be that you feel differently about the whole package as well, though frankly as a fan of the series I'd still recommend that you give it a shot.

Bargain. And it's actually perfectly playable on integrated intel graphics as well. The touch interface on it makes it a decent tablet game though it is still better with a mouse and keyboard.

The best CIV since CIV2

Recently caught up with Shogun 2 and really liked that game. Is Civ V anywhere similiar on the co op multiplayer part?
Do they have a co op campaign mode like in Shogun 2? Great price otherwise so heat added.

Not as such. There is a multiplayer mode whereby you could technically team up against the AI, but there is nothing in that vein like Shogun. In fact, multiplayer is probably one weakness of the Civ franchise; they've never really got it right. If you're looking for a good co-operative strategy game I'd look elsewhere.

I see, thats a shame - Mainly fallen on co op games these days.
But thanks though, gonna stick with Shogun for now until i find other options :P

In fairness, I'm not really aware of any other game that has a co-op strategy campaign like Shogun 2 has. It's somewhat out on its own with that. Off the top of my head you can play the Dawn of War II campaign co-op, but that's real time strategy on a much smaller scale. I'm actually a fan of playing RTS titles co-operatively against the AI, because you can tweak settings to give yourself a real challenge. My favourite games for doing that are Stronghold Crusader, Age of Empires II and Supreme Commander II. If you don't mind branching out into real time strategy games and don't mind losing the campaign element, you'll find plenty of fun with that genre.

Went for it, setup Steam account, paid and installed...
But I've yet to get the game to open :disappointed: I get an options list asking what version to open with (DirectX9, DirectX10/11 etc), and then....nothing, irrespective of what option I choose :disappointed:
Recently got a new Windows 10 PC, is that's an issue !?

oohhh I used to love playing the original Ciilization years ago. Does anyone know if this version works with Windiws 10 and/or an iPad please?

It definitely works with Windows 10. I don't think it would work natively on an iPad, but you may be able to play it if you sync the screen to a PC/Mac. Though if I'm wrong about that someone will no doubt correct me.

yes, even I know that IT mainstay... still no joy and a browse of the net suggests graphics card driver issues :disappointed:
