Set in the 24th century, some 80 years after the adventures of Captain Kirk and the starship Enterprise, the series follows Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the Enterprise NCC 1701-D as they venture to distant planets in search of new life, boldly going where no one has gone before.

I like my Star Trek but I reckon only around 50% of TNG episodes are any good, and out of the whole lot there are perhaps a dozen classics. In fact, I'm going to write my list of the very best:
The Pegasus
Time's Arrow
Clues
The Measure of a Man
Descent
Yesterday's Enterprise
Chain of Command
The Best of Both Worlds
All Good Things
The Drumhead
That one where Berkely becomes really clever.
Captain's Holiday
As for the tosh? Well anything with Q, anything with Troy's Mum, anything with Worf's kid. Anything contrived so that they end up in costumes such as cowboys. I can however forgive the Shakespeare scene at the start of The Defector (which is good I admit).
So no, I'm not paying seventy quid.

Even the guy who wrote shades of grey has referred to the episode as a "piece of ****" and "terrible, just terrible". It is without doubt the worst episode of Star Trek in any series. There are some duff episodes, but there are lots of great episodes, Sci-Fi at it's best. Surprised nobody has mentioned "The Measure of a Man" which is one of my favourite episodes of TNG, this set includes a special extended version which is even better

Seen this and clicked as fast as I could. I would love this but was expecting it to be cheaper. The wife would kill me if I paid 70 quid for the this. I must be very naive cos I was expecting it to be about £40 lol but I understand they can charge what they want as only fans would buy this. Bit gutted but maybe I'll get it for Christmas

There were 178 episodes...if only half of them are good, that's 89 good ones. 78p per good episode... Considering the work that's gone into restoring and upgrading the quality (restore from original source, remade all the special effects, upgraded from stereo to 5.1 sound), still doesn't sound that bad to me.. I skipped the first two seasons (too much like TOS imho), but the later seasons, particularly the last, are solid, imho.
That and Suspicions were the first episodes I properly watched and started my love of Star Trek.

I'd say it is a bargain when just one season cost £50 originally and individual seasons only occasionally drop a bit below £20 even now nearly four years after they first started being released. They spent a fortune on the restoration (it cost as much as making a show from scratch) and it looks better than a lot of modern stuff it's been done that well.
missingman
29 May 16#26
True, but it's regarded as one of the all time greats. I think it's total drivel.
missingman
29 May 161#25
Actually I'll certainly give you Cause and Effect, Timescape and Parallels. They were very good with proper science, proper space stuff and decent stories. Perhaps not up there with the very best though.
So I think maybe 14-18 truly classic episodes, possibly 20 as some of my list were two-parters. If you include ones like those above and a few other very good ones you might get to 40 episodes that can be watched over and over.
That still leaves well over 60% of the episodes as not being up to scratch, possibly 70%, which I think is a lot.

I quite like the episodes with Q. Hated Darmok and tinman episodes, and that series 1 episode where riker wears a skirt. Quite like the one where riker thinks he's gone mental, and the one where he thinks he has a son/Picard dead but is some child alien controlling him.
