I miss my Z3 Compact. I sold it and bought a Moto X Force. I want something smaller.
The Z3c was a really good phone, the build quality, the UI was excellent.

My z3c lasted approximately 5 minutes after a minor dip under about 10cm of water. So I had use of it for a whole 15 minutes which makes it the most expensive phone I ever owned. Sony repaired it and sent it back and I've just left it in the box in the draw. The z1c was bombproof in comparison. I hate to think how fragile the z5c is.

Is the Z5 Compact's display an improvement over the Z1 Compact?
I bought a cheap Z1C a while back but had to return it because the display seemed very low res/low quality compared to my very modest Moto G (1st gen). Comparing the spec sheets, the Z1C, Z3C and Z5C all have the same display resolution but maybe the LCDs themselves have improved over the years....

Just a standard software update.

It's funny how we used to be accustomed to spending so much on our smartphones. If the iPhone costs about $100 to make, this phone probably costs about $50. Though in the real world I think £300 is about right price for this phone, you do get the extra touches of quality and luxury which you don't get in some of the impressive value Chinese phones. I think theZ3 Compaq is an incredible price though. My plan is to get revenge on the phone manufacturers by never buying another phone again providing this one keeps going.

I currently have A Z5 but just bought a good condition 2nd hand Z5 compact off Ebay. Mainly because I wanted something a bit smaller but also wasn't really impressed with the battery life of the Z5. Had a Z1 before. Not expecting the battery will be any better on the compact but the physical size does suit me better.
Going to try it for a couple of weeks, if happy with it then will sell the Z5 on ebay, if not then will put the compact back on Ebay.
Thoughts so far, very impressed, not really noted any great overheating or significant lag. The Compact feels good, solid enough, (fitted a silicon bumper case), has vast majority of the same attributes I really like from the Z5.

Comparing a mid-ranged z5 compact to an iPhone is like comparing a Ford escort to a Porsche.
As for the phone itself, kind of a concern that it's on lollipop with no signs of an update.

I will Chip in, I had the phone for about six months. The software is definitely not rocksolid like a Samsung. You need to set the camera to manual to get the best photos but it's not a huge hardship, does take about three seconds for the camera at the open which is bit ridiculous. Front speakers are good and clear . The square shape makes it perfect for propping up if watching movies in bed. Fingerprint sensor is excellent and is in the perfect position . Does get warm if I am maxing out the processor for example casting a periscope life screen to my TV . Basically it is all about the size there's only one powerful smaller android phone and this is it along with its early incarnation . It has a premium feel to it , very well-made . It looks great with a slim case and tempered glass screen . I am still glad I chose it.

£100 overpriced I think - given Z3C has been hovering around 100 quid for a while now.

I must be a very lucky Z5 owner as I have no lagg, no over heating issues and no buggyness. I've owned the z1, z3 and now the z5. Very happy  Oh and yeah I used to be a Samsung fanboy and have no regrets switching to Sony.

It's great if I'm out and about and need to grill my genitals.
Great phone when it works, but if you even look at it, it'll warm up. Regularly shows at over 60 degrees Celsius and it's not a faulty handset, it's a common issue.

Best phone i have owned is the Z3 Compact, I had a Galaxy S4 for 2-3 years, upgraded to Z3 last year loved it but still found the screen too big, so got a compact and never looked back, only problem is Sony support is terrible.
I wouldn't go for a Z5 though as here nothing but bad things about battery and overheating. and the New X range isn't very impressive, gonna stick with my Z3c for a while but when i upgrade it will have to be a seriously good phone.

to go against the grain, I've owned one for several months and I personally think it's a great phone. The only downside to me is the 720p display screen but otherwise it's served me very well indeed

You could've had a bad unit but I appreciate what you're saying, however, there are many other manufacturers which you can turn to without returning to Apple. If you don't try out the competitors then soon we'll be left with just Apple and Samsung; less competition means we're all worse off.

I can also state it is a **** awful phone with countless issues. About to send my second one back and be done with it.
It has way too much lag, software issues, google feature gets in the way of gaming as you can suddenly by accident activate it whilst playing. It marks pretty easily and is awkward to hold, something i foolishly thought id get used to.
Used to be an iPhone user, eventually got sick of buying new charging cables every month and being charged excessive amounts for the phone etc. Now i know why they are so much more than their competitors, they just do the job you want, and do it well. its at least miles ahead of the sony z5 in terms of general functionality. Going back to iPhone.

I assume you mean the Z3 Compact and not the Z3. The Z3 Compact is currently £149 from Vodafone.

Yes, brand new from vodaphone - had to pay an additional £12 to get it unlocked though, not sure if the deal is still on.

Minor point, it's "would have"; "would of" makes no grammatical sense.

Very slightly better camera, no **** flaps for charging port, more ram I think.
But battery life slightly worse. I'm sticking with my trusty z3 compact for a while yet, hopefully an s7 mini comes out. So sick of giant **** phones.

Sony have lost the plot with smartphones. Love my Z3 but even that has just come back from Sony repairs where they replaced the entire screen and a few other things.
Hear nothing but overheating issues with the Z5 compact.
Not sure what to get next time that isn't too massive in size. But Sony aren't even in my options.

Yea why??
Okay it is not great but from all the Sony phones I have owned it is almost as good as the K800i, its buggy but pretty good and at last the camera is on par with a Sony camera phone from over a decade ago

Any deals around on the Z3/Z5 5" variants?

I really wanted to like this phone, though sold it soon after getting it. The fingerprint scanner isn't very good, and disappointed by the over hyped camera. I was lucky enough to get the Huawei p9 at £300 last week (thanks to Hot UK Deals) and is brilliant. I'd opt for the z3 compact over this, and pocket £150

I agree with the 'worst phone' comment - got one in February and had it replaced in March - sent that back too. It just took an age to do anything. One minute it would be fine then it would take 20seconds to open the camera, or any other app. Drove me mad. i think there is a model A and model B, mine was the earlier type and I would caution against that. Ended up with the LG G4 at £225 from vodaphone - came unlocked luckily and I love it.
