To buy without a mandatory top-up:
There is a 'Keep Existing SIM' option at the bottom of the 'Bundles' page, which allows you to purchase a PAYG phone without a top-up. Unfortunately Vodafone now hides this button a few seconds after the page has loaded. You have to be quick to click the button, if you miss it simply hit F5 or the 'Refresh' button on your browser to reload the 'Bundles' page and try again.

Another way to "catch" the keep existing sim button is to use Firefox, click "View - Page Style - No Style" and the text page appears. The button doesn't disappear. Ctrl-F to search for "Keep" and job done. I'm sure other browsers may have this feature, but I have checked this in Firefox on a Mac and it works.
The direct link to buy with the option to keep your own SIM won't work - it's session specific. Instead, if you have Google Chrome installed follow these instructions (from previous deal).....

7. On the next page you'll see a 'Keep your existing SIM' button. Click this and continue the purchase.

As someone who bought this deal when it was posted 1~ month ago. Here are some Q's answered:
1) Phone can be updated to 6.0.1, and currently has a Feb 2016 security policy.
2) I have had no clicking screen as previously mentioned, no problems from my model.
3) Box comes with USB connector, charger, screen protector for front & back (back is also glass!)
4) I unlocked mine using code from an eBayer mentioned in the previous Z3 Compact thread. But beware that some users had issues getting a working code. Not sure if this is fault of the eBay seller though. It works OK on Three network, although my 4G coverage is not so great.
5) Vodafone app will try to run 24/7 in background and cannot be disabled/removed. Instead you can block all it's permissions (thank you Android 6!), and hide all notifications of the app.
6) Vodafone will try to call you after the sale and sell you a SIM card plan, annoying.
7) I recommend getting a magnetic charger, it will charge faster and no messing with the side slots!
Overall, I'm happy with the phone so far. As a Z3 user this is a great compact version, it keeps all the main features with only difference being the 2GB RAM rather than Z3's 3GB.

Forgive a possible stupid question, but I have one of these already and love it, thinking of getting another incase break my current one. Are these easy to unlock and do Vodafone's come with much bloat that can't uninstall? I'm on Tesco mobile and got my last one from o2 so no need for me to unlock my current one.

I should warn you that its common for the whole screen to make a clicking sound on this handset when you press on the display. I got one last week and it's a bad example of one which has this common fault, just google z3 compact screen noise and you will see. just thought I'd let you know, the phone is great but with this issue it sounds like its not been pit together correctly and I can't live with it, Vodafone have also been more than useless at facilitating the return. if you buy online you cannot return to store you have to phone and get a returns bag sent to your home. I was advised initially I could take it to the store only to be told when i got there that they can't do jack. useless so they are.
going to hold out and see if any other smaller handsets come out this year. it is a lovely handset though just wish it didn't have this design flaw

xperia phones may be good re hardware etc but build quality is very questionable,
My first xperia phone for example - the xperia SP was very good at first until a bit of water got under the screen and i suffer with that interfering whenever i touched the screen and generally got in the way of typing and tapping etc, tried everything to fix it but to no avail.
Ask for the z3, it showed scratched in under a week and trust me i am a very careful user and then cracked on the back cover next and then the button started getting wonky...
anyway they work ok internally but the body build is very bad:|

a proper case will avoid these kind of issues. I have been using z3 for about 1 year with a case mate hard case and tempered screen protector and it has survived (until now) countless drops on hard and soft floor. And I dont think they are designed to survive tiny/big drop.

To those obsessed with updating their phone to most recent OS -
For every new update to the Android OS on your phone, the more control of your phone Google has.
They may sell it to you that they are blocking security holes and giving you new jazzier UI etc etc,
...but the truth is - they 'may be' preventing hackers access to your phone whilst giving themselves and certain apps full access to it - to monitor everything on it and everything u do on it -
...from knowing and downloading all your contracts, to full access to your camera and microphone, which they can and/or certain apps can switch on (ie your camera) and take pics of u sleeping or doing other things u may not want others taking pics of u whilst u are doing those things...or switching on your microphone and monitoring things said in private etc...and that's just naming a few of the new controls Google is continuously bringing to your device with every update.

As I understand it, to fully protect your warranty (which EU says is provided by the RETAILER) you have to play by Vodafone's rules. So I paid them the £20.
Sony might still honour the warranty, as I am not clear how eBay sellers get the unlock code if not from Vodafone.
In my case, they did not take the £20, so it is still sitting on my PAYG balance.
What can I do with it? I got a Data freebie to start with, which I am using, but that does not touch the balance. Can I buy another type of package with ALREADY CREDITED balance? (freebies and bigbundles are only available when you actually top-up)

(freebies and bigbundles are only available when you actually top-up)
To me, it makes the menus feel even smoother than project butter did originally.
