Unless you have a bunch of 4K content why would anyone buy a 4K TV now? The technology is still not yet mature what with HDR introduction still not really complete, 4K bluray in it's infancy, no 4K console games yet, minimal 4K streaming, and near zero 4K broadcasts.
This is a top tier 1080p panel which has less scaling to do and offers fantastic quality. A 4K HDTV costing as much as this is not going to be looking better on any content you feed it that is less than 4K, I guarantee that. It'll probably look worse.

Do they do a 50" version or does it jump straight to 55" after 48"

I bought one of these in Dec 14 from John Lewis for around the £500 mark. Well worth that price and at this price is a no brainer if you are looking for quality and not fussed about the whole 4K business. Picture quality on this still amaxes me today

Remember that your contract is with the retailer and not with the manufacturer. Your first point of contact should be with the retailer, in your case Richer Sounds. Samsung can legally turn round to you and say they have no contract with you and refuse to do anything.

The decent 3D is a bonus. This screen is highly rated mainly for its 2D picture and smart capabilities.

do people watch much 3d? I guess much isn't broadcast in 3d unless you subscribe to movie channels or buy DVDs or Blu-ray. sounds like a great TV but if I won't be watching much 3d content (my children are a bit old for kids films now) is 3d unnecessary for me and I should look at better spec non 3d models?

Totally agree. I've seen some cheap 4k panels and there bloody shocking. Some people just think wow 4k tv for a few hundred ££ and it will be a bag of poo. Not saying all 4k tv are poor but imo not worth it yet.

I have two of these TVs and they are great. I got the first one from John Lewis for £549 in December 2014 and a second one for £450 from eBuyer last October. OK, it's not 4K, but it is smart and has a really nice voice remote.
I did quite a bit of research both times when selecting the right 48" smart TV at the time and decided on this TV both times. At this price it's a great deal.

If it arrives when it's supposed to then you've been lucky otherwise you will have to deal with Groupons completely ineffective customers services. I ordered the 40" Samsung at the end of April with Groupon, it took three weeks of E-mails and phone calls to get it and that was only when I managed to find out who the real supplier was. Groupon didn't have a clue and the last E-mail I had from Groupons customer services was just to ask if I had managed to get it sorted myself yet so they could close the ticket. They had no idea whether or not I had received it. Just look at Trust Pilot to see the opinion of Groupon, that was the first and last order I will ever place with them.
I'm not saying don't go with this deal, I'm just sharing my recent experience of buying a Samsung TV from them, they will also charge you the moment you place the order so a credit card is a must.

Aldi give no information on make or model so impossible to say as no way to find out about the panel, processor etc.

Samsung's customer service stinks. I had this TV and after a year it developed a line across the top. When I called for a repair they said they'd call back and never did. I got Richer Sounds to take it back and they kindly allowed me to upgrade to an LG 4k which has built in now tv.

Apart from the make is this a better spec tv than the 48" 4K Ultra HD Smart TV available at Aldi on the 29th for £299.99 ?

For a 48" 1080p 3D Smart TV you really cannot beat this model.

The Plasma is still going strong but fancy a thinner panel and swivel stand. I have no interest in 4K at the min as I feel its pointless still at this stage and lots of the cheaper sets are shocking at up scaling.
Nice One

I recommend it! Such great quality for a non-4K. It also works quite well for gaming, not then best but certainly much improved compared to previous tellys from Samsung regarding input lag.
