Each to their own. My Pis have been-
An NVidia Game Streaming game device.
Media Centre.
Desktop computer for old telly.
Syslog logging device for all computers and router.
Bird feeder webcam.
ADS-B aircraft receiver.
EDIT: And now this, too- Video of a Pi-driven scrolling LED matrix display!
Now I'm getting in to electronics I do fancy another Pi. I've got a Pi B+ and a Pi 2 B+, but I fancy a Pi Zero for electronics hacking stuff; HOWEVER, with the Zero, you need so many adapters it seems a bit silly, probably makes more sense to get a second hand B+ from somewhere if they're cheap.

For the pi 1 (model b) I originally used it as a kodi box until it was replaced by a firestick
I've since re-purposed it as a NAS box which also handles torrents & usenet downloads by hooking up a old USB hard drive and following a online guide. It's no where near as fast as the £100 odd NAS servers that get featured on here but it does the job. The moment they release a pi model with a gigabit ethernet port, I'm upgrading it.

I've written articles on how to install Wordpress on a pi (and host your own blog), how to install Owncloud (and host your own cloud), how to set up a simple picture gallary and more. And the whole site runs on a pi. Admittedly these are for the pi2, not a zero.
As you can see the pi is plenty fast enough for serving web sites.
I like the idea of using a pi zero for syslog/monitoring, but the lack of ethernet is a drawback.

This is a great item. got one last time and i built a desktop arcade with it. wires and connectors cost barely nothing off ebay. ordered another this time round with no idea what to make with it! tempted to do the automatic plant watering tool that tests the temperature of the soil and waters it if needed.
then again i might make my old tv a smart one for the bedroom. oh the excitement!

PiHut have just tweeted that they have moved some of the stock off the kit bundles to the £4 board only deal, so there are some available again .
back again....just order one....shipping cost is relatively high..

Also look at Nodemcu £6, its like an arduino with wifi and can be programned with arduino ide same as normal arduino.
Oled screen are about 5 quid, and you can make weather info devices with nice graphics, see youtube for nodemcu weather widget

UK stores seem to charge between £10 and £20 for the nodemcu v2 and higher prices for the grove OLED and base board.
I'm afraid I was introduced via PIC and assembly and still have a soft spot for these slow old things. :smiley:

Limited knowledge of these things but was reading of a combo ethernet/USB OTG solution for the Pi Zero a few days ago FWIW. They seemed to think it was a game changer.

defo no. you can run a windows looking operating system with Pi 3.
Now I'm sure it'll work, I've got another two matrix boards coming to play with. :smiley: The stuff in the background is a hacked aerial and a Digital TV dongle that are receiving local airplane details and uploading it to the internet (get the Pi doing some crowd-sourcing work whilst it's otherwise not being used much at the moment.)
Can't decide whether to make the display give the latest breaking news as it arrives, or get it facing the street and working as a hand-wave operated Shakespearean-insult machine!

I wasn't sure if people did anything with these other than buy them because they are cheap and usually hard to get. But it's awesome to see them being used to do cool and innovative stuff. Thanks for the mention in the video. I strongly vote for the hand-wave operated Shakespearean-insult machine :smiley: It being his anniversary and all. Can't let David Mitchell have all the fun :wink:
