Not cheap, but a bargain at this price. This card tests everywhere as better than the NVidia GTX 960, which is £150+. If you're building a budget gaming PC this beats everything close to this price point (the next cards up are all over £200). So far only CCL are doing it for this much.

Hold your horses on buying a new graphics card , the 1070 Should help bring prices down in general , which will have a knock on effect on all cards , I recently bought a r9 285 boxed like new delivered on eBay for £72.00 , prices will drop further as all the 2nd hand cards come onto the market that will be burning the previous owners fingers as they upgrade.
Will this work with a 400w power supply and 8gb of ram, my boy wants a really good one for his PC it's got onboard graphics with the a8 chip at mo was looking at the 960 but I'm new to all this

I disagree
You need at least 128K or it's not "really" immersive

not a bad price if it matches the 960, i used to have the GTX 960 but found it struggled on new games. I was playing the division and rainbow six siege on medium settings at 1080p. Majority of older games it would play on high/ultra at 1080 though if it wasnt too demanding.
I think newer games need alot more VRAM than 2GB though, I think division uses over 3GB and siege with the ultra texture pack around 3.7GB
Using the GTX 970 now which i bought second hand which seems to be a much more powerful card and i haven't played a game it wont run on ultra at 1080. I really recommend it, even more so when the 1070 comes out if the prices drop alot as expected. If you can stretch your budget get a 970 :stuck_out_tongue:

have the 4gb version myself and it's a great card that is still running games on 1080p usually on high. I run Doom on ultra at 1080 with shadows on medium and it stays between 55-60fps. Also ran new tomb raider on hish with hair fx. If you are on a budget and don't give a toss about this mysterious VR nonsense, I would recommend a R9 290 or to wait for the new nvidia and and offerings. voted hot based on first hand experience with the card.

Thing is, the card listed in the post has 2gb of vram. GTA V and some ubisoft games use in excess of 4gb of vram, this is in 2016 and won't get better. He never said it didn't make the cut for 1080p gaming, but no way this card will handle 1440p gaming all too well with such little vram.
Basically, it's not a future proof card. Which is by all means fine if you don't care upgrading 2-3 years down the line.

I have this been running it for a while with no issues, but like some said if you planning on doing VR this is not good enough so will have limited lifespan, if you not planning to do VR this is good card for gaming.
The Radeon R9 380, is effectively a slightly retooled version of the R9 285, especially at the 2gb version, so might be good looking at 285 prices, but the 4gb version pushes it much further ahead of 285

VR is still a bit of a novelty, the technology is nowhere near good enough yet. That sounds mad, it's 2016 surely the technology is good enough? Nope VR needs a minimum of 8K resolution and some say it will come in to its own with 16K. However I own a GearVR and it's an excellent experience. Oculus are a bunch of numpties though, they are clueless with regard to designing user interfaces. You can't preview anything on the Oculus Store and you can't search the Oculus Store when using the GearVR, it's the same on the Oculus Rift. Needs a complete redesign and some thought actually put in to it.
The good thing with VR is even primitive graphics can still immerse you, it still really needs a massive resolution upgrade. We'll see this on phones long before we see it on PC though. As phones will get 8K-11K resolution long before the PC can get anywhere near that.

Expired now I think.
I would have jumped on it, but the Polaris will probably release a better card for value by the end of the month in the r9 480/490.

Yawn.
If your game at 1080p and are not interested in VR, 4k you cant go wrong with a good budget card and the R9 380 is a good choice. No need to spend crazy money to enjoy gaming.

Can't wait for AMD to pull their finger out with TDP and process node, Intel and NVIDIA have been setting prices for far too long.

good for regular gaming, but no lifespan
if you're interested in VR, or new and more demanding games, go with something a bit more future proof
You can get the R9 290 (basically a 390 with 4GB RAM instead of 8GB) for 1080P/1440P gaming & VR if you're not looking for 4K anytime soon - you can pick them up for around 170 on ebay
Or wait for the Nvidia 1070 to be released on May 27 and take the ~230 spot for decent 4K gaming
either choice will serve you well into the next few years

Well, not exactly - the 960 tends to have a much higher overclocking ceiling and can catch up to and even overtake the 380 in Windows. The 380 is also stymied by a weaker CPU - even a low-end i5 can hold back a 380 and cause stuttering in some cases. If you have any interest in a Steam Machine or using Linux at all, AMD's performance is shockingly bad (an £80 GTX 750 outperforms a £450 Fury). Finally, AMD doesn't make as good use of their VRAM - you'll hit the performance limits of 2GB more quickly on a 380 than on a 960.
But at £130, the 380 is basically going head to head with the 950, not the 960, where it's no contest - the 380 is the clear winner for a Windows machine, even with a lowish-end CPU. Hot!

Good price but I would hold buying any graphics cards and CPUs for that matter until AMD reveals their stuff, which although will probably not be Nvidia 1080 beaters but should offer you 390X performances for less than half the power usage and at much cheaper prices.
