They're not actually that difficult to grow, but they are in the ground for a long time and they are intensive to harvest, although to be fair, I'm not sure how the big boys do it.
You pick the spears, then come back in a couple of days and pick again, while this does mean you get a great harvest from each plant, it's a bit like soft fruit, it's a human picker that is needed, so the cost is higher.
It's a bit like most veg (although more so) it tastes alot better if you grow it yourself.
When I grow it, it's my favourite, from the shops, it's, Meh..... good, but not brilliant.

Media BS, they latch on to some spurious research, no one in their right mind would use mushrooms to treat depression, I probably could rephrase that sentence better lol. Anyway anxiety is common co-existing condition with depression, a bad trip could literally send your mind to a personal hell you couldn't have imagined. So I'd stay well away from it.
There's clinical depression well I suffer from anxiety, which is has been that bad that I'd call it clinical anxiety if such a term existed. I wouldn't mess about with magic mushrooms if you have a mental health problem, I've seen people permanently screwed up mentally because they took too much, whatever too much is.
Anyway on a lighter note, broccoli is full of good phytochemicals that assist your body in being healthly, so eat it often

Like the tenderstem broccoli but better. I think they have more nutrients and are fairly difficult to grow. I love it!!
