There is a full backup feature that you can use to backup all content on the PS4 to an external hard drive (including game installs/game data/users/settings/captures), you just need a hard drive big enough for all that. - You can then restore this backup onto a new hard drive.
You do still need to do the system software download and install after replacing the hard drive though.
And then how long did it take you to download everything again and then recover your saves one by one (because heaven forbid that Sony should include a migration wizard).

I'm tempted to buy Heavy Rain for £11.99 but convinced this will be mega cheap on the Canadian store like Beyond was.

No hassle or cons mostly pros (price)
Only hassle would be setting up a new Canadian PSN account, other than that it's all simple just buy Canadian PSN Topup cards from places like Pcgamesupply website to topup your account and enjoy the great discounted game sales, only get ps3/ps4 games since vita is a bother to use with another psn account so have to stick with one on that

The difference is that Steam have two factor authentication though whereas Sony don't and Steam is only a 100% open platform so is far more open to exploit than Xbox or PSN. Sony are just generally terrible at security.
Spark
4 May 16#91
It isn't as simple as that. You need to download a full build of the OS on a separate USB drive (a full build that isn't exactly easy to find on Sony's website either) and then re-download everything from scratch because game installs cannot be moved at all. Plus game saves have to be moved individually or downloaded from the Plus cloud individually and not all games support cloud saves (e.g. FFVII doesn't).
Simply put, it's ridiculous.

Spark
4 May 16#82
Like a few of us have said, you do have a point most of the time, this case is just a rare exception of Europe getting a decent sale for once. I personally buy almost all of my PSN content from overseas (US, Canada, Japan etc) because the UK prices are normally ridiculous.
Spark
4 May 16#81
IIRC doesn't it still add a minimum top up though e.g. If you're £3 short on your balance then it adds a £5 top-up?
Spark
4 May 16#80
I think the only reason that they haven't is that Sony are absolutely terrified of external media. It has been the cause of almost every hardware exploit on their consoles since the PS2 (FreeMcBoot, the Pandora Battery, PSJailbreak, PSP UMD emulation etc). That was why they insisted on creating a crappy and overpriced bespoke memory card format for the Vita and it is my guess that they only reluctantly added USB ports to the PS4 because it would have been hard to sell it as a home media device without them.
superfreddy
4 May 16#79
I can't find all these in their own sale section of the store. Am I missing something?
J0n35y
4 May 162#66
For those asking - don't give Sony card details! Or Paypal details for that matter! I am one of many who got stung from doing so and ended up with a much unwanted copy of FIFA 16 bought using my details. It wouldn't have been so bad if Sony would acknowledge and refund such things but no, they were very poor to deal with and about as unsympathetic as you can get.
Buy PSN vouchers - far safer.
Spark to J0n35y
4 May 16#68
Yep. They will ban your account if you do a chargeback as well so you even lose DRM access to everything that bought legitimately.

Fair point. Plenty of games like LBP 3 where there are examples of them being available for 50% of the price we get. If I didn't have a point then there would be nobody buying games from the U.S./Canada/Brazil at all. What would be the point of our prices were the same??

J0n35y
4 May 16#70
Tell me about it. I was in the middle of a serious Destiny obsession when they temporarily banned me for a fortnight due to charging back. Was held to randsom and told I needed to clear my bill before I could play on. Was even told verbally "yeah, dont worry, we'll refund you once you do it" and "oh, totally, we'll find and ban who did this" but lo and behold, when it came to the crunch - no refund and "it's impossible to find and ban who did this"!
Spark
4 May 161#69
That's nuts considering most people only have a 500GB drive in their PS4. At least the Xbox allows you to easily use external storage I suppose. I recently upgraded my PS4 to a 1TB HDD and it was far more complicated than it should have been.

So near to picking up Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls. But £15.99 for something I'll likely play through once...might still hang on for that one, or see if the Canadian store does better. Sony have annoyed me massively by removing the reduced version of Heavy Rain for owners of Beyond from the US Store. It's still there on ours (https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/games/heavy-rain/cid=EP9000-CUSA02355_00-HEAVYRAINBTSDISC?smcid=pdc:gb-en:pdc-buy-playstation-store:herobanner-shop-now:null:null) but has disappeared from theirs and I bought Beyond on its own from the US just before Christmas. :man:
Now I'm going to have to wait for it to either reach Plus or go on sale on the US Store because there is no way that I'm paying over $10 for it.
Spark
4 May 161#64
Yeah I know, I own it.

Very early for a sale on Day of the Tentacle considering it was only released about 5 weeks ago but I don't mind as I got my money's worth, I highly recommend it.

This actually appears to be a sale for the EU Store for once. Not a couple of quid off the already high RRP that digital titles have to retain. Well done PS

You do still need to do the system software download and install after replacing the hard drive though.
http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/196357-how-to-back-up-and-upgrade-your-ps4s-hard-drive
Recently bought the HD collections and acension so this is all I need..
Going to spend hours catching up on these now as I've just 100% dark cloud on ps4!... Again
Beyond two souls and heavy rain for ps4 has been reduced by 54% to 15.99
I also want Murdered Soul Suspect, but then I'm convinced it'll be in Plus in a few months.
Finally, RE6 is bound to be £7.99 this year...
I made a pre-order recently and it only topped up the short fall (in my case 39 pence).
Whether pre-orders or purchases are handled in a different manner I do not know.
They're oldies now, but I would be all over Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein New Order if I hadn't played them already.
(Heat added op)
No wonder the country is obese.
If it doesn't make me feel like a young teenager again I'm coming back to vote cold
Plus its a remake of the Gamecube version and not the PS1 version so it has the utter **** and incomprehensible Crimson zombies in it.
Only hassle would be setting up a new Canadian PSN account, other than that it's all simple just buy Canadian PSN Topup cards from places like Pcgamesupply website to topup your account and enjoy the great discounted game sales, only get ps3/ps4 games since vita is a bother to use with another psn account so have to stick with one on that
shame its not 2 dollars to a pound any more but still cheaper.
http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/heavy_rain/news/massive_psn_sale_discounts_heavy_rain_day_of_the_tentacle_resident_evil_and_more.html
Simply put, it's ridiculous.
Buy PSN vouchers - far safer.
On the Canada store, Gravity Rush was £14 last week and that was the lowest price it had ever reached anywhere until now.
But still Quantum Break 120gb? Bloody hell.
Now I'm going to have to wait for it to either reach Plus or go on sale on the US Store because there is no way that I'm paying over $10 for it.
The worst one I have seen so far this generation was Quantum Break which amounted to over 120 GB if you downloaded the episode pack rather than streaming them and then it turned out that the f'n game didn't even work anyway.
GoW III is massive though at 40GB so people without unlimited internet beware.

May pick up double dragon and child of light at these prices
Nice to see Europe and the UK get a good deal compared to the other regions for a change.
That's my pocket money spent this week.
Tempted by Day of the Tentacle, but will wait for likely PS+ as both Grim Fandango & Broken Age made it on there (and I haven't got around to playing them yet either).
There's a few Resident Evil games on sale too - Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 6.
It's Need for Speed: Rivals Standard Edition.
HUKD is increasing my backlog!
