Think it's usefulness depends on how you have your home system set up.

I have my digibox going into my XB1 and because it is at the centre of my media I find I get a lot of use from it, from simple things like saying "Xbox On" as I walk in and it turns on my TV, Receiver & Digibox, to be able to say "Xbox Watch BBC1" then quickly "Xbox go to Netflix". Xbox Pause, Xbox Mute I use all the time.

It's a small thing, but I go out to make a cuppa when watching a film (Xbox Pause) and then as I walk back in the room it's "Xbox Play" even before I'm sitting down again.

Then there's things like "Xbox, Bing The Usual Suspects" bringing up a results box and I can easily find if it's available on any of the streaming services I subscribe to (rather than going into each one and searching) or if not how much to rent it.

For games, it's now of no practical use. For everything else, it somehow still feels like the future and genuinely improves my media centre.

I absolutely love my Kinect 2 and seriously recommend Xbox One users to have it. Particularly at this price.

Mine does not, tells me I need sky go extra. Gutted because it was 1 of the main reasons I got 1 after using it regularly on my 360.

Absolute joke that they changed it tbh because I don't use more than 2 things with it and it had always previously been free.

Oh well just another reason to never subscribe to sky again and go the Linux route :wink:

Great, if I didn't have one already I'd go for this.

Yes, it supports Sky, Virgin and most Freeview boxes. It will show you the TV Guide and allow you to control the whole thing by voice (the Kinect includes an IR blaster, so it will send the IR commands to your Sky box).

Don't forget, there's also the Sky app on Xbox which will allow you to stream all your channels too. It says you need a SkyGo+ subscription, but seems to work fine with a normal subscription.

Snapping TV and playing games and controlling it all by voice is great!

You need to use the "YouTube" keyword, rather than Xbox.
So say "YouTube, search for kitten videos"

Hi, would that work the same way if I had my Sky HD+ box plugged in? I have a Sony tv and a Pioneer Lx57 amp which is a link do it all at the mo but this would help my wife a lot if it would like that! I'd be tempted to go and pick one up today! Thanks

I've heard that it can also be used to play games too (aswell as being the fancy remote control)

MS had no choice but to drop the Kinect "requirement" as people resented the extra cost over the PS4. Its just one of the many arrogant mistakes MS did with the One (the other suicide move being restricted game licences stopping you even let a mate borrow your game!!!). In a way, the Kinect has been instrumental in the XBone's loss of ground over the PS4 and its all but dead, shame really as its a great piece of kit, I love mine even though it gets hardly any use :smiley:

Unfortunately not, as YouTube, being Google, have decided to deliberately cripple their app and keep it to bare basics.
You can launch, pause etc, but no search from within the app, although I do believe you can 'bing it' from the dash, and it'll show youtube results from bing.

Its worth purely for voice commands, snapping stuff while in game is such a time saver, quickly snap TV while in lobby waiting to load etc.. such a loss when MS stopped making it a requirement, as i feel the dashboard kinect features will be left behind in the future.

​serious question please, can you search you tube with it by just saying what you want to search for? its all my mate uses his nvidia shield for but it is handy when listening to music having a few beers lol

I've been toying with getting one for that reason alone, now I've read it can do other stuff too I think I'll finally take the plunge ;-) (they're £30 in store too if it hasn't already been mentioned)

Worth getting at this price, Major Nelson recently announced they were working on new stuff for it.

Turning it on/off. Turning up down volume, switching channels, use a code. Whenever I just want to chill and watch TV or youtube I just use my voice

I think I have only used it for scanning DLC codes and trying out Skype on my XBox One a couple of times. Other than that it's just sitting there. Not sure if it was sarcasm, but if not, what do you use it for?

I want a second for my other 'box, but waiting to see what surprises e3 brings us...
