Actually there's a little known "hack" for turning a small monitor into a large screen TV.

Im gonna get it, update the software as per the latest update on the Philips website, and give it a whirl for the weekend. If its not up to par then I can take it back. Argos are very good with returns in my experience.

For me Philips is only really and option when you consider the Ambilight TV. As far as I can see their smart apps are not great, the TV's are made under license by another company, reviews for a number of sets are pretty average etc etc. All that being said this is a super price and of course on that basis I've voted hot.

Hats quite a silly comment, why would I want to sit 10' away from my current 40" TV when I could use a TV like this albeit one with a DECENT input lag? I use a 1ms,144Hz monitor with my PC but I'm not prepared to move my Xbone into another room inatead of lounging comfortably

Was very tempted because of inbuilt Google App store but review from AVforum does highlight this issue which puts me off. Being user of Android box, I agree dual core is far too less to hold the weight of Android 5.1 processing load.
"This all looks very impressive on paper but there is one stumbling block and that's the power of the processing built into the PUT6400. Unfortunately Philips are only using a Dual Core processor and given all the new features and the capabilities of the Android platform, the TV simply struggles to keep up. We like the basic Android layout and navigation is very intuitive but in terms of responsiveness it was slightly slow in places and the TV actually crashed at one point, resulting in us having to reboot it."

Is Kodi not available from the app store to download on this Android TV? Surely it must be so no messing about with sticks.

It's amazing how the price of 4k TVs have plummeted over the past 12 months, early adopters must feel pretty pi**ed

there's a word in the marketing department for early adopters - lombards - loads of money but are really dumb. shows how valued they are doesn't it.

I was thinking about buying the 42"/43" version in Dec from Sainsburys for about £270 but the reviews on the Philips website were woeful for the Android TV part of the TV & that put me off

Its so difficult to compare TVs & brands these days... esp when neither Philips nor Hitachi make their own TVs any more.
I'd probably avoid both

Other than an additional inch could anyone tell me why this TV is better than the 49" Hitachi 4K smart TV priced at £349.99 at Argos?

I am looking for a TV deal but has to be with 5 years warranty.

Well, yeah. It's a 4K TV, unless you've got a powerful gaming PC you're not going to be gaming in 4K any time soon (even the new PS4 won't be powerful enough). And upscaling adds a HUGE amount of input lag.
If you're a console gamer avoid 4K.

Really 27 inches plus from a metre away, on an adjustable chair, with a a near perfect colour production, at 1440p, 144hz, and Gsync? I'm not here for the console each has it perks, but PC all the way pal when it comes to screens. Unless you are playing a blu ray TV's can come nowhere near.

Isn't that always the way for new tech? Those who choose to run along a year or so behind still experience the same benefits, albeit a year behind, but save a small fortune along the way.

Had this to play XB1. Too much input lag so sent back as not fit for purpose. Still good value for general TV watching. Replaced with The latest Sony Bravia, which is spot on.

From the Trusted Reviews, err, review: "If you’re thinking of gaming on the 55PUT6400, you should be aware that we measured its input lag – the time it takes to render its pictures – at around 50ms. This is a pretty average result that could result in the TV sometimes affecting your gaming performance. This is even more of a possibility as, in our tests, the 55PUT6400 sometimes registered measurements nearer 70ms."

If you were that serious about gaming you wouldn't be playing on a 50" tv anyway.
