I've got a couple of Android Wear watches and the Pebble Time Steel. Despite the lack of a touchscreen, there's not much that the Pebble can't do that Android Wear can do. Then compare the 7 days or more battery life of the Pebble to the day or so you get from any Android Wear device, and you can see why I favour the Pebble.
Buttons also beat a touchscreen in many ways since you can perform actions by feel without even looking at the watch.
Horses for courses, but for me, the lack of a touchscreen isn't a problem.

Had my Argos-supplied PTS a day or two now & it's working as advertised :-). As my phone is largish (a Note II) it would be good to be able to extend the Bluetooth range so that my watch would stay connected as I move around the house & garden without having to move the phone to within a few metres of where I am at any one time. The search results I've garnered so far seem to suggest that one can't (easily - as with Wifi) extend the range of Bluetooth connections via repeaters but does anyone know different. Also I'm on the lookout for a brushed Gold watch strap to match it - not keen on the one Pebble can supply: I want a Milanese or Shark mesh design really. Grateful for any suggestions.

Yes, any notification is sent to the watch. I replaced my Apple Watch with a Garmin Fenix 3 and couldn't be happier - looks like a normal watch, 2 week battery life, accurate/real GPS and comfortable. The only thing the Apple Watch has is 'apps' and they are absolutely useless, it's fitness features are pretty pants too.

If you want a sports watch just grab a Garmin- Fenix, Forerunner 235 etc. I've had Pebble, early Forerunners, Apple Watch, Android wear Smartwatch. Nothing comes close for me to the new Garmins. Battery lasts a week, fitness and step tracking, sleep tracking, heartrate, great GPS, even gets cadence on my bike, customisation with watch faces etc, waterproof, advanced info like VO2 max, recovery etc and a great app that auto synch and auto uploads to Strava. Also phone notifications, email etc. If you are into running, walking and cycling just get a Garmin.

The pebble steel was my first watch and did its job, now using apple watch but as others have said touch screen doesn't always mean better on a watch. The one thing i miss on is controlling music with buttons. I've ordered this as an alternative to the apple watch for when i feel a change

Depends on what you want it for. It's certainly more flexible than a fitbit and handles notifications, step counts, music control plus any number of other apps.

Hmmm I've heard that the step feature is a bit hit and miss, but possibly that's true for a fitbit or any wrist mounted counter too... It's one of the reasons I just bought one (THX OP :smiley: ) as I have been thinking about a fitness monitoring thing, but I've wanted a pebble, then a pebble time and finally I've stumped up on this deal for the steel that it is (Thanks Squashie for the pun!)
My opinion is that its better because it has many more features than a fitbit, alerts, apps and (lol) watch, but it also runs the fitbit watch face (fitface) so essentially doing the fitbit thing... I guess it comes down to how well it records the activity for that function.... I believe that it will also run a link with Strava and also start/stop the music player, so perfect for me :smiley:

No, I have both the Pebble Time and FitBit Charge HR, and they work side by side, but they do different things.
My Charge HR never leaves my wrist except for charging/showering every couple of days. I use that (combined with the app) for steps, sleep, heart rate and all my diet etc. (there is a great food log in the app).
My Pebble Time is a watch, that also deals me notificaitons, and that's it. It's great - as long as my phone is in the same building (generally goes up to about 70ft) I get the notification on my wrist. Can't respond or do anything, but it's great for SMS, facebook notifications etc.
I use a few other standard watches too, so I rotate my watch depending on what I'm wearing or doing, but generally it's great for the notificaiton push.
PTS has a legit 5 day battery life, and is totally waterproof (unlike my HR).
I can reccomend both, but wouldn't reccomend the PTS over a fitbit - just in conjunction with one. Regarding the PTS, just one word of advice - go look up 22mm straps on ebay. I have a few and switch them out as they have a universal fit. Turned a decent watch into a great looking one.
BTW, my partner has an apple watch sport. I think it's great, and for £250 it does a hell of a lot more than the PTS, but it's 1 day battery and thew iffy heart rate tracking seem a little annoying.
