This price for LED is no longer viable, the market has changed, technology has changed. I cant think of a worse buy.

I bought the 55 version of this tv 2 weeks ago for £998 at Currys, its a nice tv and for the money its a lot of tv - i think the post above refers to oled or similar - nice technology, but still way more expensive for now.
But no new boxed stock.
I rang Hughes yesterday and they confirmed they have brand new boxed stock ready to ship.

You'd pay practically double for an OLED TV. Which technology would you recommend for this price that is so much better it makes this TV unviable?

My panasonic 802 series 4k broke real easy and the updates dried up instantly too. £400 for a single capacitor replacement. Make sure they believe your warranty because if your reciept doesnt say itthe shelf edge lavel doesnt prove it 3 years later.

Bought one of these recently as an upgrade from the CX680 and it's fantastic. When it gets the HDR update, IMHO if you're concerned with PQ you'll not get better in this size.

To those of you asking, it's my local independent: Electronic Universe in Hitchin. I didn't want to get pooped on for someone thinking I'm promoting.
Step 1: Find a nice new piece of tech gear you want at a price you can afford.
Step 2: Wait for a couple of years for the updated technology as the item yor are considering buying will be obsolete soon.
Step 3: After waiting for 2 years go back to step 1 again.

The viewing angles on the 802 series are quite poor.
If you're not looking at this straight on then you'd be better looking for an alternative tv.
You lose quite a lot of colour when you sit anywhere but straight on to it.
This is a problem with a TVs that use VA panels unfortunately.

Is this any worse than most Samsungs?
I have found that LG have better viewing angles but much worse motion blur.

I have an 802b and the viewing angle is fine unless over 45 degrees where it does wash out slightly. You don't have to be sat straight on too the screen.I spent a lot of time doing research. This tv is fantastic for picture quality. Just read the professional reviews by what hi-fi and av etc.

Some of last years lg models used ips panels, so didn't have this problem but personally I'm not a fan of the picture quality of LG(except OLED).
For me, Samsung had the best TVs last year but this years models from all manufacturers have failed to impress me.
The Pana DX700 has a fantastic picture but again it's a VA panel, so it does lose some colour when sat to the side. I could live with that as I sit straight on to my tv but it won't be for everyone.
I've yet to see the 8000 and 9000 samsungs but I'm expecting them to be some of the best this year.

Interesting comparison with viewing angles given here, unfortunately Panasonic do not get a mention but the Samsung models which all have VA panels do seem to score the lowest.. http://uk.rtings.com/tv/tests/living-room/viewing-angle
The LG models with IPS panels have better viewing angles but tend to suffer from motion blur.

Well my tv arrived a couple of days ago, but I've only been able to set it up tonight...
And it's faulty.
I deliberately checked with them to see if they were 'reboxed' stock, and the said no, it was brand new stock.
Box DID look new, however when I opened it, there poly's had a section missing and broken, which should have been a clue..!
Plugged in, and everything was fine to begin with, all set up and everything was fine.
After about 20 minutes, it just shut down with a flashing light.
Left it powered off for a bit, tried again, worked fine. Then after a bit again, it showed a USB device error. But nothing was plugged in.
Power cycled again, and now it barely powers up.To say I'm not happy is an understatement, and I doubt they will have any new stock to replace it with.
I'll be on the phone tomorrow, but my hopes are not high...
Be warned.

Hi how did you get on? Did you get it from Hughes or Richer Sounds? Thanks

From Hughes. And to be fair, the service was excellent.
Rang them yesterday morning, and they confirmed all stock was new boxed stock, and they had two left in the warehouse. Then they arranged for a straight swap/delivery in the same drop the next day (today) can't ask for better really.
New TV is now on the wall, all set up, and updated. 4k Netflix looks fantastic, and so far (!) still working.
Hope all is good, and I can enjoy my bargain TV.

Got the 55 Inch version for 800 on eBay refurbished from Panasonic outlet. Didn't come with a power lead but works perfectly. It's a great tv. We hope for the hdr update in the next month. Can't fault it. Love the UI the connectivity. Great if you have fiber optic bb. Connects to nas drive. Record using An external HD. Hdr update being delayed till the new ones with hdr have come out as this is a cheaper alternative. Basically half price for last year's flagship.
